If I could give this facility, zero stars, I would my neurologist there has been my doctor for almost 10 years, recently their phone calls have not been coming through on my cell phone and I have done everything I can to try to change this today I spoke with the receptionist and she told me to call at 2 o'clock when my appointment was scheduled a virtual appointment she spoke to the doctor and he said Take me as a patient because I will not answer his phone calls. This guy is a professional. I cannot believe someone could treat a patient like this. I think he needs to pull his head out of his butt. I did everything I was told and did he give reception crap? to me now I would recommend a different neurologist. I've been here a few times. It's clean and very close to where I live. Located on Seymour, south of Nelson street. I came here two different times when I had had severe asthma attacks. The first time I was rushed in with no wait, and immediately hooked up to a nebulIzer. Then they decided I needed additional treatment, and so they called St Paul's Hospital Emergency and sent me there by cab. I was able to be seen and hooked up with no wait. The next time I had another severe asthma attack, they weren't quite as helpful. They made me wait, even though I clearly was having an extremely hard time breathing. I was wheezing badly and felt I couldn't get any oxygen to my lungs. The Dr who saw me acted aloof and like I was an inconvenience to him. I asked about the nebulIzer and he blew me off - even though I clearly was having major problems breathing. He didn't give me anything at the office, so I continued to have my attack until my RX was filled! I went away still feeling the same as when I arrived- I was not happy ! It was a horrible cold day that we had a snow storm and everything was frozen. It took a long time to get anywhere. My husband had to go fill my RX for me which took forever. Anyone with asthma knows how scary it is when you can't breathe. I was wheezing so loud and couldn't catch my breath. I couldn't believe he sent me away still having a full blown asthma attack! I have been here several times and can honestly say that this place has provided the worst medical treatment that I have ever encountered. I've had two notable experiences that are worth sharing: 1) There is a male doctor there who is so aloof and dismissive that I truly don't know how he works in an industry with people. He doesn't look at you in the eye at all and his sole focus seems to be getting you out of there without actually hearing how he can help. I came in for an internal (female) exam and he handed me the swap tool and (no word of a lie) told me to insert the swab as high as I could go and swap around inside of myself. I stood there with a dumbfounded look and said to him "isn't this your job?". I was appalled that he was asking me to swab myself. 2) The second experience was with a female doctor who sat on the computer Googling my symptoms and reading off a check list on a search result asking if I had those symptoms. On several occasions I was told that it was alright to come in on Saturdays to do a Pap smear. I confirmed on the phone with the staff that it was good to come in on Saturday with no appointment. Staff reassured me it would be done with no problem. So, I come in on Saturday the same week and staff says no, it cannot be done on Saturdays! Staff seem so unaware of what's available and not! I take it all back. Coast Medical is a dangerous, disorganized mess. Stay away. The lack of attention to detail I received from a number of doctors here could have cost me my life. My GP Dr. Graham went on paternity leave. He made a recommendation to see a different doctor, though that Doctor also went on some kind of leave, which left me very up in the air in terms of finding someone that was on the same page for my ongoing medical needs. Full disclosure: Dr. Graham was doing his best to treat me for ongoing depression and anxiety in addition to a potentially cancerous growth. These are not things you want to leave to doctors you do not trust or have a relationship with. I saw two different doctors (one Dr. Li and I can't remember the other one - they're not even on the website) for my depression/anxiety and another doctor (Dr. Ying) for the growth. The first doctor prescribed an antidepressant without explaining that things might get worse before they get better. Optimistic about the future, I was on this antidepressant for about a week before I noticed my symptoms get 10x worse, and I had no idea why. This cost me my relationship and ended up with me in the hospital connected to an IV under suicide watch for 32 hours. The second doctor said the growth was something else, and prescribed an ointment that did nothing. I eventually went to see a specialist who reaffirmed that it was a tumour, and I was scheduled for surgery two weeks later. The lack of attention to detail and explanation with both of these situations reflects the quality of care you're going to get at Coast. While Graham was good, I wouldn't take my chances here again. So rude. I came there once, and had to go back a week after as the treatment they gave me didn't do anything. I don't have any MSP, I have an insurance that requires me to pay first. The front desk woman asks me 4 times, loudly "Its 150$" "Yes I know" "Are you going to pay?" I feel compelled to come on here and update my review. I have been with Coast Medical for over a year now and have been dealing with Dr. Li as a family practitioner. I am able to get appointments within a few days at slowest. ALL of my concerns are heard, and being neurotic about my health, I ask a lot of annoying questions. I have been given EVERY test I have asked for, which goes far above and beyond the standard practice. When results come in, though I am not called for anything normal, I am able to seek reassurance from the front desk girls who will go out of their way to find my results, bring them to the doctor and report back their findings, all while I wait on hold. I am thoroughly impressed and stand by by first review. If you can get in with Dr. Li as a doctor, I recommend it. His demeanour will put you at ease and his knowledge and confidence are reassuring. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Nichol's when she was working at the Yaletown Medical Clinic, and when she opened her own clinic on Seymour I followed her over to Coast Medical. The office is beautiful and modern, with cork flooring and splashes of bright colour throughout. It feels more like a spa than a doctor's office. Now that my doctor has her own clinic, I don't get the same "rush the patient out of the door" feeling that seems to be standard in BC doctors' offices. This doesn't end with Dr. Nichol: while she was out of town I saw another doctor, and I was given fantastic care by her as well. Also, whenever I've made an appointment at Coast Medical, I've always been seen right on time, which is practically unheard of in the medical industry. I highly recommend Coast Medical, especially if you're looking to find a family doctor instead of moving from walk-in clinic to walk-in clinic. read more

I really need some explanation. I was in a car accident about a month ago and was experiencing after pains so I visited this clinic. I had to wait almost 1.5 hours but it didn't really bother me cuz I was having lunch at the Commune, just next door. The "doctor" was actually quite nice and friendly. But then this weird thing happened. When I asked for the doctor's note he said "Oh... I'm actually not a doctor....." What the? And there was this awkward long pause. So I asked, "so you can't write a note for me?" And he replied, "that... That is a good question... Hmmmm" !!!!?!!?!! I didn't bother to ask any further cuz Stein Clinic is actually the clinic that I'm always visiting and I know couple really good doctors there. I've given this clinic a number of shots - and I'm finally giving it the heave ho. Coast Medical is located on Seymour Street, right beside Commune Cafe. It also appealed to me because it's beautiful, looks new and squeaky clean. Like other reviewers, the wait time is brutal. Regardless if you have an appointment or you're walking in - they never run on time... even for the first appointment of the day. You will wait an eternity in the waiting room and then another eternity in the exam room. My main issue with the clinic is the competence. I have been to 4 doctors there and I haven't had a positive experience yet. They were rude, didn't listen to me and not customer focused. I am somewhat of a complex case in the medical world - but I've always gone to Coast Medical for basic things (ie. prescription refill, specialist referral, etc). Respect, empathy and kindness are 3 things I need in a doctor. I have been to many GP's over the years and many walk-in clinics, but I will never see a GP at Coast Medical again. Note 1 - After waiting over an hour this week to see a doctor, I walked down the street to Khatsahlano Medical Clinic and I was in & out in 30 mins (20 min wait, 10 mins with doc). Efficient, professional and friendly. Note 2 - The massage therapist at Coast Medical (Chris Urae) is one of the best in the city. Only takes patients by referral - but if you can get in, your body will love you. read more

First things first (because first impressions count) - this clinic is absolutely beautiful. I know that in the grand scheme of things, that doesn't really matter, but I really do appreciate how clean and bright and colourful it is in there. I followed my new family doctor (Dr. Nguyen) here from Aquarius clinic in Yaletown and was pleasantly surprised. I had only seen her a couple times at the other clinic (finding a family doctor accepting patients in this town is a bitch, by the way) and had been pretty turned off by the treatment I was getting there mostly because it was always extremely rushed and I didn't feel like I was getting the proper care that I was coming in for. And now I think that was because of the clinic's practices and not her own, because seeing my doctor at Coast is a completely different experience. I actually feel like I can sit down and talk with her and ask questions and listen for good answers and maybe even talk to her about more than one thing! It's amazing! (and how medical care should be, dammit) I have found that I don't tend to get into an examination room right at my appointment time - I always have to wait at least 10 minutes beyond - but this hasn't been a huge issue yet. The receptionists are always friendly and so far it's been pretty easy to get an appointment around the time that I want one (after work during the week). read more

To those people complaining about wait times, just don't go during peak hours. I went on a weekday in the early afternoon and there was like one other person in there. I was able to walk in there, and see a doctor in less than 10 minutes. Very surprised. I usually go to the CarePoint clinics on davie, and I would have to wait hours before seeing someone. I literally spent more time at the pharmacy picking up my prescription than I did here at the clinic. The doctors here are nice, they ask the right type of questions and get to the bottom of any issue. I will definitely be coming back here. read more

I guess they're hoping the aesthetic will drive patients in or mask the level inconsistent doctor patient treatment. Our "family" doctor Dr. Nichol is suppose to be our family doctor however in the 4 visits, since our baby was born we've seen 3 different doctors. On the last visited went in to have out any weighed(just a routine check up), I had broken my toe as well. I was actually ordered to make another appointment for them to see my toe, which was in 4 weeks WTF!! Terrible, terrible. Another incident involved our toddler having a pretty bad throat infection. the doc (once again NOT Dr. Nichol)took a swab and requested we wait till the lab gets back to her before taking the antibiotics. Should be in less than 48 hours. Meanwhile I have a newborn at home whos also breast feeding. We get a call 4 days later telling us she has strep-throat!!! What kind of clinic are they running over there. Of course we panic because of the baby and Mom getting sick... Thankfully they didn't. But my mother-in-law did. Do yourself a favor. This clinic has terrible wait time, terrible bed side manner. Needless to say we are looking for another family physician. read more

I used to go to Carepoint on Davie before this place opened up. I'm so glad it did! It's modern, bright and clean. The waiting area is usually very cold with the AC blasting, so bring a sweater/jacket, even in the summer especially if you're sick. The staff are friendly and helpful despite their hectic work from a never ending lineup of patients at the desk and phones ringing off the hook. Most of the doctors I've seen have been excellent. They used to be closed on Sundays, but now they are open 7days a week and late on weekdays, so it's great if you have a Mon-Fri 9-5 kind of job. Your files are all on the computer with quick and easy access by the doctors. Not sure if it's because they've become popular but the wait time is getting longer and longer (expect 1.5-2 hours). I just wish there was a spot for doctors accepting new patients at this clinic. I unfortunately go to the clinic frequently, so doing walk-ins all the time is a bit of pain. read more

I have called the clinic ten times in the last hour (they are open) and no one picks up my call. I get a recording after ten rings which says "Try again". I called the clinic for office hours on another weekend recently and I was in great discomfort. The recording stated the office was open. After walking 20 minutes to the clinic I arrived to find a sign on the door stating that they were closed. I ended up having to go to emergency later in the day because no other clinic was open. I wrote to the clinic manager about the problem but never received a response. It is a sad day for the BC health budget when we have to go to the hospital for expensive service instead of to a clinic. I want to support all the positive comments about Dr. Li. read more

Ive been going here for years, unfortunately they are no longer taking appointments - it's walk in only now and they only have 1 doctor working in the evenings, so the receptionist recommended I came in first thing or source an alternative clinic. I came in here last week in the afternoon and was told that they don't take any more walk ins for the day. No big deal, it was the afternoon. I came in this morning at 9:15 am as a first timer, sipped on my coffee , checked emails. Saw the doctor by 9:45 am and out the door by 10am. Time spent with the doctor was short but I was there for a prescription and so it was short and sweet. For a walk in , I think it's pretty amazing for the wait time, doctor was fine( made a couple recommendations). If this was California, the wait time would had been similar WITH an appointment ... overall, I felt at ease. Can't speak for any other times of visits, but mine was very efficient! Followed my family doctor to this modern, contemporary clinic. While I somewhat agree with the other reviewers, I have docked a few stars due to my recent experiences with the clinic in communicating realistic wait times for walk-in patients. My boyfriend had visited the clinic on my recommendation for a health issue and waited over 2 hours just to see a doctor for a 15 min consultation. He was told over and over that it would just be another "20-30 minutes" as there were other patients before him. Imagine his frustration as his wait turned from minutes to hours as patients who had made appointments continued to trickle in and disappear into the office! I too made the same mistake of coming in as a walk-in recently and was told that it would be "20-30" minute wait. It ended up being 40 minutes, as I dropped in after work and there were patients who had made appointments who came in after me -- AND the doctor was taking a break. Lesson: Make an appointment - at least there's some guarantee that you'll get to see the doctor when you want. read more

Seems unprofessional to have a sign on door stating you're closed on a day you'll be open. Especially if the night before there was no signage indicating the closure. Unforeseen circumstances can arise, but then at least have a recording when you call the clinic or have a list of other recommended clinics to go to that ARE open during posted hours. This is NOT a medical clinic, it is a money making, for profit company. My doctor, Dr. Nicoll, is never around and only saw me once while I was going through breast cancer. I was recently called in to get some blood work results, saw another doctor as mine was away as usual, and he had absolutely nothing to repot (the blood work was fine). I went on a Saturday and the woman who came out to the desk didn't say hello or anything just looked at me. I said "Hello" she said nothing, just looked at me. I said I want to see a doctor. She looked so depressed. She just said, " We are closed." They close at 4 pm. I was there at 2pm. She couldn't speak English very well so are conversation was difficult. She looked so depressed. When I walked in seeing about 3 people sitting and waiting, I'm thinking I would be treated normally for any interaction one would have in any situation. No, not here. Why didn't she say, "Hello, how can I help you. We aren't taking anymore walk ins today." Why didn't she do the most human and simple normal discussion. I'm so sorry her life is so bad that she must treat others so disrespectfully. I want to come back and give her a hug and say' "You are not a piece of crap because you work at this clinic." I'm genuinely disappointed. When I used to live in Yaletown and was looking for a new GP, Coast medical had a pretty good rating and that's why I decided with Coast. Now it's been a couple of years, I have moved to Coal harbour area but still come to Coast since my work is quite close to this clinic. But I'm sure 5 out of 5 visits to Coast in the past 6 months, I had to wait in average of 20~30 min. in the waiting room even though I make appointments every time. AND on top of that I wait another 10~15min. in average in the room, wasting a good 40 min. every appointment just waiting. And I'm extra furious this time as I went in for my annual pep test, not only I had to wait 30 min. after my appointment time the doctor was in such a hurry she was trying to leave the room even before everything I asked for was done! This is just unacceptable for me, especially when it involves my health. I have lost hope with this one, and I'm just going to find a new GP. That's all. read more

The service (at the front desk level) here is awful! The wait time is very arbitrary (theyll tell you the wait is appropriate an hour and then an hour later they will tell you to come back at a certain time and when you go back theyll tell you to wait more) and when you ask them what the reason is the people at the front desk just tell you it's up to the doctors. I get that this is a walk in but seriously dont abuse that and use that to make people that are feeling unwell wait forever!! read more

Don't go here. I went to this clinic to have a wart treated. When I finally got in to see a doctor after waiting for hours I was informed that the liquid nitrogen device was broken and instead "Dr. Nichol" used some sort of acid on my foot. She told me to keep it on for 12 hours. I woke up that night (4 hours later) with a burning pain on my foot and washed off the acid. The next morning I had two big blisters on the bottom of my foot and couldn't walk on it. After draining liquid from the blisters, two days later they cracked and I was left with raw skin and 3rd degree burn. After visiting a different clinic the doctor said that what was used was way too severe and that the 3rd degree burns would likely leave scars on the bottom of my foot. I went back to show "Dr. Nichol" what had happened. She didn't offer any sort of apology and said they were "just blisters". She didn't offer any advice on caring for the wounds until I asked. I've had to take take time off work as a result and a holiday that I have planned is ruined. All in all it was a terrible experience and "Dr Nichol" didn't show any sympathy. My foot is worse off than it was before the treatment. read more

This is my family doctor out of necessity. The office is incredibly mismanaged. Expect to wait at least an hour for all scheduled appointments; they are NEVER on time EVER. When you finally see a doctor, they are over booked so most interested in getting you in and out vs your healthcare. If you have other options, exercise them! read more

I've met some really great doctors here & also some awful abusive ones. One yelled at me, another said "well if you didn't go from doctor to doctor to doctor to doctor" to me because I also was seeing some nurse practitioners elsewhere. The waiting period is horrid and at least for me, there was no path to go from being a walk-in client to a regular client. They seem to suffer from a lot of turnover, have no way to deal with the few addicts/ crazy people who walk in. I went here for most of my doctor needs for over 2 years but I gave up after the last time. Would not recommend. read more

*10/30* So far my experiences here have been very positive. Reassuring what others have said, the clinic is very well-decorated, clean and inviting. It doesn't feel scary like a doctor's office when you walk in, or have that weird, over-sterilised smell. I've been for walk-ins on weekday afternoons twice now. I waited max 10 minutes each time in the waiting room, plus a few minutes in the exam room. All the doctors I've seen were really nice, and very professional. Initially I thought this was just a walk-in clinic, but I noticed they advertised family practice when I was in the waiting room so on my way out I asked if I could book a physical. Not only did they have space for me the very next day, but the doctor said that I could consider her my GP. They also offer massage therapy, clinical therapy, and have a dietician at this clinic! The one negative thing that happened to me here was with one of the nurses...it was just one time though and I haven't seen her since. She had very poor discretion and didn't really seem to consider patient confidentiality a priority. Without this slip-up I'd give coast medical the full 5-stars. read more

First of all, they don't even check your blood pressure and heart rate when you go in like every other doctor I have ever been to. Then they take one second to actually investigate the problem I was having and just suggest I drink more water to deal with it? Obviously I have been doing that and feel terrible enough to spend 135$ to go to a doctor while on vacation (as I am not a Canadian citizen). I have had the same symptoms before and suggested same treatment as before (antibiotics) which the "doctor" said they wouldnt prescribe. So basically a waste of money and inefficient exam. read more
