Also, each of the dentists at Coweta Dentistry accept only certain dental insurance plans of their own choosing. Also, if you are a new patient, they will probably assign you to a dentist fresh out of dental school or with minimal experience who knows very little. The most experienced dentist there named Dr Swords, who looks like Spock from Star Trek, takes no new patients because he is just that good. The only staff who do a good job are the dental hygienists who do teeth cleaning. However, if you want a dentistry which does more than teeth cleanings, best you go elsewhere.

I pay my bills through my Bank and placed the payment in. I received yet another 'reminder' of what I owed before my payment was posted at Vassey. Update: Feb. 9th, 2026; Vassey Dental Partners reached out; asked if I wanted the automated emails to stop. I agreed; and they disabled this feature for me.

In reading one of the earlier reviews, I do have to admit that Joel at checkout does have a dry sense of humor, and if he's busy, he can be direct and efficient, which I personally appreciate. In short, it is now a mess. From very frequent front office, billing, and hygienist staffing turn-overs to the elimination of the acceptance of most insurance this is not a dental practice that I can recommend. In fact, when I arrived for a routine cleaning and was told my insurance would no longer be accepted and I would have to pay out of pocket before receiving any services, I declined to stay and told them I would have to find another dental practice. I went home and left a review a one-star on Google expressing my unhappiness with the changes that had taken place at Southern River Dental since Dr. Laney Smith and Dr. Johnson had left. My review was met by a threatening telephone call from Dr. Charles Smith, himself. He told me if I did not take down my review, he would sue me. He also stated that I owed his practice over $250 in past due bills and he was demanding immediate payment or I would be taken to court for failure to pay. I explained I had never received a bill from his office so I did not know how I could owe his practice any money. I also told him that I had Explanation of Benefits that stated I owed him nothing. He told me insurance companies always made mistakes on EOBs and always lied. He assured me I did owe him money and he could prove it. He also told me that if I removed my negative review and gave his practice a new 5-star review he would consider my bill paid in full. I did as he asked because I did not have the $250 at the time to spare. As it turned out, my insurance company later confirmed that I did NOT, in fact, owe Dr. Charles Smith's practice any amount of money - that all of the bills for all of my past dental work had been paid in full by them. The insurance company told me that I had been mislead by Dr. Charles Smith. I told them that he told me that they usually and routinely lied. They stated that was not true. I leave it to you if you want to use Southern Rivers Dental and Dr. Charles Smith as your dentist. That is a decision you should make after reading the reviews here and other places left by his former patients. I wish you the very best.
