A bit different to other churches but nothing to wrong with the way the pastor speaks.

The pastor is a great speaker. One of the best around. If you want a church where the pastor uses the scriptures then check this one out.

I fell away from the church. I found my church very judgemental and old fashioned with painful hymn…read moreand organ music and boring hell and damnation sermons. it was unbearable, really and I did not feel any connection to God. I felt God hated me/us. So, I fell away. I found this church and first started going for the coffee shop and the music and the art and internet access as I was homeless on and off (although working-the area is so expensive) and it felt welcoming. Now I have a bible again and am studying, listening, praying daily and have re-established a relationship with God/Jesus. In terms of bringing people to God, I would say they are fulfilling their mission. I am older, not a student, so sometimes I feel not a part of the crowd as someone else stated, but I don't focus on that any more. Its not an issue. I personally like that children have their own ministry. Perhaps they could choose one of the three gatherings to be family oriented for those that have them, but I would not choose to to attend that one. Yes the service/message is not super demanding in terms of reading scripture. There is no Bible thumping and judgement here. Its oriented to be helpful to living your life according to God. That is what drew me in and then I had a thirst for more. I think this church is very important for drawing people in and is very successful at that. If you want hard core study, you probably have to join a community study group. I find the music and volume to be very vibrant and I appreciate it as a heartfelt outlet for praising God. That can never be too loud!! So different from the dry hymns of my baptist roots. In fact I prefer when they do the modern music and not the hymn remakes (those make me shudder). I think VFC is what many need to find their way back to God and Jesus. A new format that prunes out of the old fashioned....you can choose to join a study group or seminary series to deepen your practice, if you choose. I consider this my church. When I needed prayers, they are there. When I needed to find a way back to the church, they were there. All the welcome, none of the judgement. I think VFC is a unique gem that I am proud to support.

A place for His people of all ages and walks of life; a place to get set free from the darkness; a place to learn to live free in the Father's freedom; a place to empower you to set others free! I was challenged by great questions and much more. The Holy Spirit revealed some words of knowledge to some of the leaders there, which led to them asking if they could pray for me. I woke up the next day not aware that it was even possible to be healed since the issue could only be fixed surgically. To my surprise I was healed, I was a 2nd year medical student at the time so it was almost impossible to believe. Even after experiencing a medical miracle I didn't want to believe... I kept assisting Sunday services and connect groups to further investigate; no long after I had a powerful encounter with Jesus Christ. I gave my life to Him that night, got filled with the Holy Spirit and started undergoing a radical transformation. From atheist and homosexual to a Daughter of God, a follower of Christ. God called me to join FreedomHouse internship Bible school and dropped out of medical school. And so it began, the most beautiful journey. Much growth and freedom came through the amazing pastors, pastor Robert and pastor Wendy, as well as great leaders. I went through all the freedom in Christ seminars throughout the years where I was facilitated with everything I needed in order to "get free, live free, and set others free" (vision of the house). I am now a faithful daughter of the house and will continue to share my testimony all throughout Mexico, Santa Cruz, and the nations of the world as God leads us as a family! If you're not sure where to go or if you're looking for a community in the area, take my word for it, THIS IS IT! Come and visit, it's a great place to be, I visit every chance I get!

I stayed home and watched the children so my then wife could attend. My last real attendance was at a Congregational church in Southern California, where at age 35 I was asked to be on the board of elders. I attended from 1980-1990, I tried a couple of others but the same lack of welcoming for disabled children. I have been watching the services at Peace UCC online and am impressed with the mission, music, sense of true Christianity, acceptance of diversity, and humor. I am very nervous about walking into a church again after all of these years, but hope I can get up the nerve to walk in alone. I always get overwhelmed at the initial barrage of introductions and my terrible ability to recall names, finding is very embarrassing. I moved to Aptos in 2005 and have thought about attending again ever since. My older son passed away in 2014 and my younger son (23) lives out of the home.
