My hair stylist took the tine to ask me questions via iPad and Google Translate! The nail aesthetician was so friendy! I visited the salon twice while I was in Rio and would have gone more if I had the time. They sell high-end products like Kerastase (great if you want to skip on the usually damaging stuff in hotels.) You can get your hair done and a manicure *and* a pedicure done at the same time and generally feel like, yes, this is what vacation is about. Her skin is genuinely exceptional, and she looks a good 10-15 years younger than her age, so I took the referral seriously. I still did my own research, and both the Copacabana and Centro clinics have consistently strong reviews. The doctors are highly trained, and their father is an eminent dermatologist in Brazil. I've worked with the two sons, Dr. Guilherme and Dr. Ronaldo. They've been consistently professional, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. They listen, they understand what you're trying to achieve, and they explain the options clearly (including what each approach costs and why they're recommending it). I always feel comfortable in the consult, and I've been very happy with the results. The clinic itself is pleasant and calm, and the staff is genuinely friendly and polite. You also notice that people travel to see them, which says a lot. I'm fortunate to split time between Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles, with easy access to top dermatologists in Beverly Hills. Even so, I trust Clínica de Pele / Dr. Szerman with my dermatology care. In a dream world, you could get rid of unwanted hair almost permanently at a reasonable price and with little to no pain. Thankfully, this is no longer my dream world! I have started doing photoepilation (the light treatment offered at Não+ Pêlo) and after 3 sessions that take about 40 minutes each, I've been nearly hair-free in the treated areas. Is it painful? Nope, not really, and sometimes I can't even feel it. The person doing the procedure can always adjust the strength if you're more sensitive. I recommend trying one treatment to make sure you're comfortable with it and then buying a package. I go once a month and no longer need to shave in between sessions. It's truly a miracle and I can't recommend it enough.

Their express pedicure may only be 22 BRL which is dirt cheap, but this is in my top 5 worst…read morepedicures ever, and I get them regularly. First off, don't expect a foot bath or even a spa chair. You sit in a regular chair with the nail technician in front of you using s special stool to put your foot on, one at a time. The pedicure included removing my polish, clipping and filing my nails, wrapping each foot in a callus remover lotion and foil, and cutting the cuticle. The whole job was rushed and sloppy, at times even painful, as the nail clippers were dull and she was pulling my nails off rather than cutting them. The worst part was when she cut my cuticle and pulled on a hang nail so hard that a strip of skin came off. The fact that she was prepared with some kind if styptic powder to stop the bleeding concerns me. This must happen a lot. She proceeded to paint my toe nails while my injured toe wouldn't stop bleeding. No base coat and a very sloppy job on the polish. I hope and pray that my toe will not get infected. I also didn't see any barbicide or disinfecting liquids for the tools. Please go to a legitimate spa. I can't vouch for this place.
