Seems there are a lot of small gyms here with little to no clientele. The gym is a necessity, even…read moreon vacation, so good thing they had a few of these wherever we went. this is by far no 24 Hour Fitness Super Sport, but it's a tad better than a hotel gym, and is very clean. The dumbbells reach the 100s, and there were enough treadmills. The squat rack is also for the bench, and they also have a smith-machine for the same purpose. Since the music is old rock, and turned down a lot, if you don;t have an MP3 player, it's difficult to stay in the mood to workout. Also, paper towels are supplied, so I would suggest bringing your own towel to wipe yourself off. A single stall toilet room, and a shower room with sink and toilet are supplied for both men and women. I didn't check out the tanning.

However they make you go in person during regular business hours to cancel. You can't cancel over the phone or online. After collecting from me for months, without me even using the gym, bc I could not go when someone was there, they turned me in to collections bc I didn't pay for another 30 days once I canceled. Read the fine print before signing up. They definitely have some shady business practices so beware.

Several of them were very rude and showed very little respect for me and my friends. They interrupted me when I spoke or ask a question and generally acted like they had better things to do than answer a question or two. They have a lot of outdoor workout training sessions but it's way too hot for that. Some of them involve running laps--on a busy road. All in all, you pay a lot of money to train at a small facility with a few snarky trainers.

Everything positive that you have read in the reviews over the years about Red's is true…read more Unfortunately, Red himself passed away and much has changed. It is so apparent that some important standards left when he did. It is still a fabulous facility that is very well equipped. Everything that I can point out as a negative can be traced back to staff not doing their jobs. I can remember back when Red had a courteous staff that kept everything picture perfect. Now when I go in, it pangs me to see dirty towels strewn about the facility, trash cans overflowing, garbage on the floor, etc. Unsupervised kids is another problem. Inattentive staff compounds that issue. Not long ago, I witnessed a kid jumping down from a second floor walking track so his friend could film it. It was in full view of the front desk, but their attention was on their phones. I tried to report this to another staff member who let me know that it wasn't his area to deal with. I would hope that they would get on the ball and bring the facility back to its glory. If you can't do it for the members who pay a premium price to go, at least do it to honor the man who brought one of the greatest gyms in the country to Lafayette.
