Churchill Downs - 08.31.25 the post-position draw at Churchill Downs in Louisville provides clarity about the Derby field

I love that they have the all inclusive tickets now. Horses, fascinators/hats, mint juleps and lillies what more could a girl ask for! Oh and the fashion. The city showed out! I also enjoy taking pictures/videos with all of the fun vendors! I love that they offer free parking and shuttles to Churchill downs during the week.

I recently attended the Delta Day event at Churchill Downs, and overall the experience was…read moreabsolutely amazing. The facility itself is huge, but despite there being what felt like hundreds of people there, it surprisingly never felt overly congested. Everything was very organized and well staffed, and I appreciated how employees were constantly walking around picking up dirty plates and keeping the environment clean and inviting. There was plenty of room to move around, socialize, and even space for dancing without feeling crowded. I also really appreciated some of the accessibility accommodations throughout the venue. Luckily, there were no steps required to get into the building, which made entering much easier. I was also pleasantly surprised when I went outside to the patio area to look at the horses and saw accessibility ramps available because I honestly expected there to only be stairs. As someone with mobility challenges, those details truly matter and made the experience much more enjoyable. However, I did have to take off a couple stars because the parking situation was frustrating from an accessibility standpoint. When I arrived, there were no handicapped parking spots available near the first turn area, so someone I knew actually had to take my cart and park it for me while I got out in my wheelchair and made my way into the building. That part definitely could have been handled better for guests with mobility needs. The food was also pretty good overall. I had chicken and potatoes along with a few other items, and the potatoes especially were really good. My only other complaint was the price of the Oaks Lily. Oh my gosh! $18 for such a small cup was honestly kind of shocking. I could only justify getting one because the price felt a little ridiculous for the size.

There is no better location to watch Thunder Over Louisville. Planes fly directly in front of the hotel, the drones are easily viewable from the balcony, and the fireworks to cap it off are unlike anything you'll ever see anywhere else. Fireworks are fired from two barges as well as the George Rogers Clark Memorial Bridge. Safety is their #1 priority as evidenced by the unbelievable amount of security at their hotel for the Thunder event. Wristbands are required to enter either tower of the hotel upon check-in, and each tower is PACKED with security guards. The hotel features several restaurants with great food that can be eaten inside, ordered to go for your hotel room, or ordered from room service. We were pleasantly surprised that seating was immediately available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Our favorite restaurant was Walker's Exchange. Seating was plentiful and the kitchen moved at a rapid pace to keep food flowing out to diners in quick fashion. As for Thunder Over Louisville, it's an event we will never forget. The planes were roaring loud, the drone show was patriotic, and the fireworks were unlike anything I've ever witnessed. I counted 4 finales that could have capped off the show, but the intensity just kept ramping up to an epic climax, complete with howitzers firing off both sides of the bridge. If you are looking to experience Thunder Over Louisville, there is no better vantage point than the Galt House.

I don't understand all of the low ratings for the Galt House Hotel. Maybe y'all need to stay in a…read moretwo-bedroom waterview suite, and then you might change your opinion. Because the two-bedroom waterview suite is dope. It's like a small condo. The bedrooms flank an enormous living room with multiple seating options, there's a kitchenette, a balcony overlooking the Ohio River, and just lots and lots of space to spread out. My family is composed of introverts who need to retreat to their own private spaces to recharge, and this hotel room afforded us this luxury. We could all be in the same room, but also out of each other's eyesight and earshot, like God intended. If you require time and space to not see or interact with your family members for extended periods, this is the hotel room to find that. A good fitness center in a hotel is important to me, and Galt House has a stellar one. I've never seen anything like it, really! It's called Club 360° Fitness Center, because it's located on the rooftop of the hotel and all of the fitness equipment is situated to face outward in a circle toward floor-to-ceiling windows, if that makes sense. You get panoramic views of Louisville from the gym -- it's pretty cool. And there are lots of cardio equipment options (including several ellipticals, which is important to me), free weights, and lots of other things. Galt House also has an outdoor pool that's open seasonally (although, no indoor pool, which is a bit of a bummer), and it's also centrally located to lots of restaurants, shops and museums. Parking is either valet or self-park, and self-park is a block or so away in a parking garage. Overall, this is an excellent hotel that puts you within walking distance of lots of amenities. And it's clean and comfortable, and a little bit fancy but not overly so. It was exactly what we wanted during our stay in Louisville.

We thought that meant that you'd be exploring and ziplining all through the cavern, but no. It's a ropes course, and the course is pretty small, and you're not really going into the cavern, which is a bummer. They do have a separate zipline tour, which is maybe more adventurous, but I wouldn't know because we didn't do that one. The ropes course is for ages 5 and older. Louisville Mega Cavern also offers a walking cavern tour and a tram tour, plus a drive-through Christmas lights display around the holidays. Be sure to book your activities in advance! This place is very popular and gets very busy. One thing to note is that outside food and drink are supposedly not allowed. (Oops, my bad. I didn't find that out until I had finished my tasty little tuna-and-crackers snack.) They also have lockers to put your things in if you don't have someone hanging back at the tables to hold your stuff.

An usher approached and offered the option of a complimentary upgraded ticket closer to the stage, which was a nice surprise. Truly feel there are no bad seats in this venue and sometimes bring my small binoculars to see if I'm missing anything (typically I'm not), but usually just sit back and enjoy the great audio quality with no complaints. My only grievance is toward fellow seemingly entitled, self-absorbed, impolite patrons who arrive late for the shows, typically with phone flashlights turned on bright who clumsily attempt to find their seats. They seem oblivious to stomping over other patrons in their quest to access seats they had selected in the middle of the row, loudly talking, and flashing blinding lights around. Rude, Rude, RUDE. I wish theaters would institute holding patrons at the door for specific entry into the theater as a group, perhaps 15 minutes into the show. Also, if you're 30 minutes late to an only 1-hour show, it'd be nice if it was either denied entry or perhaps directed to the back rows of the venue. End of rant. :)

Everyone mentions the ceiling and the faces, which are incredible, but there are so many more details to take in: castle-like doors and faux fireplaces, tile work, angelic statues and a starry sky ceiling in the main theater.
