Inside is music and dancing with a more rowdy, club vibe. However, they want a €10 cover unless you are a woman (and even then it is no guarantee) and the drinks are below average, but definitely pricey. I won't be back, but if I liked clubs, I guess I would recommend it.

It is one of the places to be seen and unless you are on the guest list it's not easy to get in from what I was told. I am not a fan of places that require you to be on a guest list and also not fan of places where people go to be seen. I was fortunate that someone else put me on the list and I did not have to anything else but turn up. Having said that I really liked this place as it is spacious, lots of bars, some food if you need it and a big dance floor. The music is all electronic and the DJ they had on last night was pumping out some great mixes and the build up was super :-)) The place was absolutely packed and the crowd was young. If someone invited me to go here again I would gladly come back. If I had to go through the effort of getting here myself then, I probably will never come back :-)) not because of the place but due to the fact that I can't be bothered going through the hassle of it all ;-)

Not only did they use bottom shelf liquor for the drink but it took 20 minutes just to have them come around to serve us despite the low volume of customers. We came on a Friday evening, and there were many people but not overwhelmingly crowded. The place is adorable with its stuffed animals/flowers decor hung on the ceiling. There was a DJ spinning indie dance tracks, perfect to get me dancing. I saw that one could reserve tables there, and there are 2 Foosball tables, books on a shelf, electronic gambling slot machine -- pretty much one could not be bored there. I first came to think of Substanz as my favourite indie dance club in Munich. The people are friendly, interesting and willing to get to know new faces, and the music starts early. They do play electronic and some hip hop stuff, but save that for much later in the evening. Sometimes folks are a little bashful to start the dance party off, but I've found that just one or two people getting up when they feel the beat seems to be enough to get things going here. Secondly, Substanz also frequently hosts poetry slams, so the young, artful souls of Munich find haunt and haven here too. Occasionally, they also host benefit parties, meaning that you can shake your groove thing and pay a small cover to go towards a great cause. Admission is €6 to the slams and the benefits are usually around €5 admission. Otherwise, there is no cover to get in here. Thirdly, Substanz is ultimately also a bar with television screens, meaning you can come here to watch the football (soccer) game of the night complemented by the liquid gold brewed by our good friends at Tegernsee and the fairly tasty bar snacks (wings, cheese sticks, etcetera).

DJ's that were playing some electro the last time were pretty cool too. You just have to check out their programs and pick the night that fits the best your expectations. The cocktails prices are alright( 8 euros for a long drink) entrance fee varies though, depending on the event. The venue is a bit rough inside and no real places to seat in general. Nether the less, I recommend for the good ambiance.

The venue is not too big, just how I like it. However, if it's a sold-out (or close to) show, then it can be choatic. We saw a rock band played there, and people were pushing each other, spilling beers, shouting. For me, I was engulfed within a circle of tall people that I had no chance of even seeing the band. Next time I go, a bit of better planning (go earlier) + better luck = better experience.
