This was one of my favorite places to study because the owners are so nice (I think this is a family-owned business & that the people working here are related to the owners?). I've never had a single complaint or issue with this place. They're very kind about letting people study here as long as you keep buying things. My friends and I would buy in rounds so we weren't just taking up space (because seating is fairly limited). If excellent coffee is what you want, CCC is the place to go in Davis. The single origin beans are roasted fresh in town and make rich flavorful brews. You've lucked out if you visit while Ethiopia is the coffee of the day. The unmistakable blueberry notes and chocolatey body will give you new appreciation for coffee or cause you to rediscover why you love the beverage. It's easy to become a regular here because the coffee seems to be loaded with caffeine, and it's tasty enough to buy one or two refills. Caution: you will be hooked. The staff is friendly, chat with them to start off your day. The baked goods are usually decent and fresh from Village Bakery in town, but the coffee is of good enough quality that the food doesn't need mentioning. There are juiced-to-order fruit and vegetable blends in case you're under the weather and need a vitamin boost. In summary, superb coffee and friendly staff are reason enough to make it a daily destination, and the food is only served as a convenience. read more

Tried Cloud Forest Café today while looking for a lunch option. Their menu online had much lower prices listed and seemed appealing, so we headed over while in the area. We arrived at the café and wanted a coffee initially, only to be told that they were out of brewed coffee - at 1pm on a weekend?! They didn't seem to want to make more, at which point they tried to upsell us the much higher priced americano. We settled for a $13 panini and $12 berry toast, which each did not arrive at the table, but was for self-pickup at the counter with a buzzer, and it came on basic paper plates with single-use plastic utensils. This made the café experience much less enjoyable. With the "cloudforest" name, we would have expected more of a nature-themed ambiance, not Bob Dylan photos all over the walls and cheap picnic vibes. MOST IMPORTANTLY, you would be generous in calling these portions an appetizer, especially for the money forked over. The amounts did not even suffice for a substantial snack, and we ended up having to get more food at another place nearby. The food quality and freshness were good, but the portion size and presentation along with measly customer service and plastic made for a pretty disappointing experience overall. read more

This place has a lot to offer! Their proximity to campus, cool atmosphere, friendly staff, and quality of drinks/food are some of this place's strengths. This place has one major shortcoming though, and it's the reason it was so quiet here at peak study hour. The prices here are completely outrageous. For instance, I ordered a 16oz london fog for $5 not including a tip! My friend I came with bought a delicious Matcha green tea latte for $6. This place has so much going for it, but the crazy prices in a college town definitely hold it back. It's a shame to see its potential go to waste because of their pricing -- I can't help but think this place would be doing a great business with a lot of traffic if they lowered their prices to meet the budget of the poor Davis college student. read more

This is by far my fav coffee shop in Davis. It's very cozy and comfortable and the coffee/lattes are great. They also have amazing breakfast and lunch options. Highly recommend this place. Cutest patio in Davis for sure. I usually stop in quickly for a to go latte on weekdays (the honey latte is amazing). But on weekends, my husband and I like to sit in the patio and drink our coffee out of their ceramic mugs- I swear it makes coffee taste even better! Sometimes its difficult to find seating due to students using the space to study, but over the summer this hasn't been a problem at all. Cloud Forest Cafe struck me as a very humble place the moment I walked in. And let me tell you, this place certainly feels cozy with burlap coffee sacks hanging and a coffee bean roaster to the side. The coffee here is, without a doubt, the main attraction here. Roasted and brewed fresh. It shouldn't disappoint a well traveled coffee connoisseur. Smoothies and teas are also great. But I don't come here for drinks. I come here for the panini sandwiches. They are amazing and are some of the best in town. There are maybe 5 or 6 different kinds and I've tried three: the cloud forest panini (turkey), the villager (ham), and the cache creek caliente (roast beef). There are some vegetarian alternatives if you're interested and they're probably just as awesome. The cloud forest panini and the villager feature a pesto spread in them and it makes for an out-of-body experience almost. The cache creek caliente has a chipotle sauce that adds a nice kick to what would otherwise be a standard roast beef sandwich. Genius. Sandwiches come with a side of apple wedges or potato salad. You can have 'em on ciabatta or focaccia bread. To top it all off, all the sandwiches are under 6 dollars. Cloud Forest Cafe does just about everything right and won't rip your wallet a new one. For Davis, I find this better than most. I really like their cloud forest panini which is absolutely delicious. Staff are very friendly and looks like a really good place to study. On a side note, I went here on a rainy day and they have their heating going so high that it gets really stuffy with hot air. Some people like that though. Can't go wrong with that pesto! But recently - not sure if this is due to summer schedules - I've been noticing some trends. While making paninis, please: 1. Make them fast enough 2. I have to admit that as an undergraduate, I never really used this place as often as I should have as study spot. As I student, I needed just three things to get work done and that is: internet, coffee, and food. This place has just that and they're good at it! However, if you are a student, be mindful of the time limit. You're not the only ones entitled to the stuff this place has to offer. When I worked in downtown Davis, I came here a lot and I've tried nearly every food item on the menu. My favorite thing is unquestionably the paninis. It doesn't even matter which one you get, they are all good on focaccia. This includes the breakfast ones as well, especially the bacon and egg with pesto and jack cheese. As for the coffee, it all depends on what you like. I drink black coffee and as is for the most part. If you like to add the cream/milk/sugar/whatever, the coffee is fine. With that said, the standard cup of coffee is highly variable and that could depend on the roast or the baristas. If you like to buy whole beans, I would recommend New Guinea if it's available, but they tend to go quick. Since I've been coming here, I've only ordered cafe lattes with soy and Americanos. They are all well made and recommended. When I can, I prefer to enjoy the drinks in a mug and listen to the music playing over their radio. This place is just a lot quieter than most coffee shops in town. Simply a nice place to relax for a few minutes with some light reading. In short, you should at check it out. read more

Cloud Forest Cafe has some solid sandwiches. Their foccacia breads are toasted really well, and stays nice and crunchy even after a couple of hours. I ordered the cloud forest sandwich, and there was a balanced amount of meat and veggies. The one thing I would have liked more of is some sort of sauce cause it was a little bland. I also ordered an iced vanilla latte, and their coffee is a little too watery for my taste. They have free WiFi and some seating for students to study at. It's a pretty quiet environment. The service was a little slow (my friends finished their sandwich while I was waiting for mine...). Got the cheap house coffee, I always find that to be a quick way of assessing overall quality. Was a little too acidic, leaving the tongue dried out, with additional "ash tray" after taste. Disappointing, over roasted or just sat on a burner too long. Didnt finish it. The panini was pricey but very good. The foccacia wasnt so hard I thought it would break a molar, had lovely sprigs of rosemary in the dough, pesto had the right amount of garlic and basil and the veggies were not overly wet causing the bread to get soggy. Solid panini. I do see the business aspect of excessive patrons who only purchase a small coffee but stay for hours studying taking places where other customers could be sitting. Its not a library, its a business, and many patrons indoors had large laptop and textbook set ups with only to-go coffees. I unable to say anything about the coffee since I always order the smoothies. The smoothies are always delicious and the berry one is to die for. All their panninis are delicious and if you add avocado it can be surreal! I do not suggest it for studying since EVERYONE who goes therestays forever, but for a small break it is very comfortable. I don't like the people who only a small coffee and stay for 5 hours. That is so rude! read more

Food: So delicious! Everything is so fresh and they use local vendors for almost (if not) everything. The paninis and salads are all amazing and the servings are a generous size (especially the salads.) Juices: The juices are a little expensive, but they're 100% fruit and vegetable juice, juiced on the spot when you order! So they're totally worth the cost. Try to check out the little sign with seasonal juices, the Pink Lady (OJ, Pineapple, Beet, Lime) is up right now (Fall) and it's so good! And I also recommend The Three Amigos (Carrot, Apple, Orange). Service: Really good. Always prompt and friendly! Atmosphere: They always have really good music playing and it's always at a nice volume. It's quiet enough to chat or study without feeling disturbed, but loud enough that you can listen and enjoy it. They have free WiFi but they request that you limit your stay to 2 hours when they're really busy, but I've never felt the need to limit my time here because there's always tables open when I've been (even during lunch hours.) Overall: I don't have a bad word to say about the place other than that its a little expensive, but they support local vendors and everything is really fresh and delicious. I absolutely love this place. It's quiet, quaint, and cute. And I am a man. And I will go here and do my man studying and eating in this cute place because I love it. It's just a little college cafe that has a wonderful atmosphere and very friendly staff. But honestly, the paninis here are amazing. All I have to do is walk by the front and I'll start craving one.
