Lucy helped us choose a nice, local red wine for our meal and also helped us choose local cheeses for dessert. We also had the Paris Brest cake (choux pastry, praline whipped cream, and nougatine)! We had just learned about how the cake was created specifically for the first major cycling race so we felt obligated to try it and it was great! It came out and looked huge but the server assured me that despite its size it's actually quite light. Overall, this was a delicious dinner in a great atmosphere with perfect, friendly service. They were amazing exquisite and food was prepared perfectly. Meal number 1 I was recommended by a dining colleague that to try the terrine. They bring you the whole loaf out with bread and you can sample and eat as much as you so desire. Also served with the terrine are small pickled gherkins pickles and olives. Awesome appetizer. Then I decided to have the Mediterranean seafood salad. Super filling and loaded with Seafood. It was decadent and downright amazing. Meal number 2 Indecided to go with the terrine again and then a steak with blue cheese sauce. They asked how I liked it cooked and my reply was the chefs recommendation. Man.....This was the best steak i had been served while in Clermont (I believe I ate it 3-4 times in a month). Huge serving, juicy and delicious. See folks some guys can eat steak every meal. Im more of a seafood guy so for me to say the steak was amazing really it was superb. The blue cheese sauce on the side was a great add touch. On both visits the restaurant was quite busy and the people working the tables were running everywhere. They looked a bit exhausted and service was a bit slow but this is typically how French restaurants run. See dinner is not a fast meal. It usually takes 2-3 hours. A pure delight. We had the "Agapes" menu, which is ten courses altogether with the little…read moreminiardises to start and to finish. Each dish is very reasonable in size so the quantity is perfect. This Michelin one star chef plays wonderfully with the subtlety of the raw products (lobster, turbot fish, foie gras and pigeon) and hints of stronger tastes such as dried tomato, herbs and spices. Perfect balance is reached with tasty vegetables that sustain the taste of the meat: artichoke with the lobster, green fava bean with the fish, orange and yellow carrots with the minestrone. The whole meal was sprinkled with truffle flakes so subtle, yet present under each bite. Three wonderful breads were served together (country, grain, apricot). Fantastic local Auvergne cheeses, some of which being really rare. The strawberry sablé was perfect. The service was smooth, efficient, very nice, with no wait between dishes. A fantastic treat that I warmly recommend.
