Vacqueyras is a fabulous destination if you want an authentic and central place to use as a base to tour the countryside of the Vaucluse region....just make sure you have a designated driver to stop at all the other vineyards you pass as you make day trips to include Nimes, Vaison la Romaine, Carpentras, Arles and of course, you get there from Avignon, about 30 minutes away by car. My friends stopped there on their honeymoon and said that it was the best part of their tour through France due to the warm welcome they received including suggestions from the owner, Henri Bungener, as to what to do and see in the area. Rousanne is the major player in the mix with Granache Blanc, Picardan, Clariette, Bourboulenc, all region specific grapes to finish. A very golden color, floral, honey, stonee fruit and a bit salty from the minerality. Certainly one of the more unique and intriguing wines I've tasted

The area has such a rich wine growing history with so many different wine styles to sample. We couldn't believe that Les Caves offers FREE 60-minute wine tastings, and scheduling could not be easier on Les Caves' user-friendly website. We arrived and were greeted by a lovely, knowledgeable woman who enthusiastically guided us downstairs into an intimate, private tasting room. Les Caves has several private tasting rooms, each below ground and designed as mini caves. For an hour our host guided us through six different local wines, each distinctive in style. At the conclusion, we were free to exit Les Caves owing nothing. Of course, we bought a mixed case of fantastic wine that can't be purchased in the U.S. Les Caves was a highlight of our visit to this legendary wine growing region.

The tasting room is a bit small compared to most of the other wineries I've visited, but it is tastefully furnished. They have a large selection of gourmet food items available, as well as their wine and olive products. The staff here were the best I've encountered at French wineries -- welcoming, knowledgeable, unpretentious. In addition to a wine tasting, we were offered an olive oil tasting. The oils here are divine! Perhaps to locals, this is nothing special, but the olive oil is better than any I've tasted in the US, even compared to French imports. I only wish I'd purchased more, as it appears it will be extremely difficult to obtain outside of France. The wines here were good. They were not my favorite of the wineries I tried, but were solid and I think the prices were very fair in comparison to other wineries.

Only 20 minute drive from city center Aix through windy roads of lush green hills and trees. So beautiful thru the driveway and into underground parking. They have a high end restaurant or an out door cafe which is nice after tasting wines or wandering thru the vineyard to see the many sculptures. (There is a fee to view the sculptures) Highly recommend a visit!

The family that runs the winery is a lovely bunch who that works hard making some incredible and varied wine. The grounds are beautiful with vines dating back more than a century and the surrounding hills are dotted with vineyards and towns that literally date back millennia. It's magnificent! The wines were all wonderful - not overwhelmingly complex and very nice. They have a number of red blends as well as a few sweet wines. While we have limited room in our suitcases, we picked up 6 bottles and would have grabbed more if we could. The family who runs the winery is 3 generations deep and has a great operation running. They were a delight to chat with and speak both French and English. The wines, grounds and conversation were all lovely! Stop in if you're able, it's well worth your time.
