As a regular visitor to Göteborg and a fan of its club scene, I was eager to try out the newest name on the circuit: Clooney's.
I was at first impressed by a very nice location and exterior, an indie club in the heart of the city, my hopes were high.
In I stepped at around midnight and paid my 120 kronor entrance fee to the girl on the door. At this point, events started to turn sour.
The girl said something to her co-worker in Swedish. Luckily I had a native friend with me who overheard them say haha. he doesn't know there are only 2 people in the club.
My friend told me what they had just said, so I politely asked for my money back. They at first refused, then said that it was possible, but only if they spoke to their manager.
After 10 minutes, the manager comes down and gets behind the till to get my money back. Until he hears me speaking English, at which point he changes his mind and declares in Swedish: He's just a tourist. He won't be a problem.
The guy basically thought it was OK to steal my money just because I wasn't a native.
I love Gothenburg, I love many of its clubs (Pustervik, Villan, Jazzhuset etc) but this experience has really put a sour taste in my mouth when I think of the city read more
