I can't believe I haven't left a review here yet! I've been coming here since I moved to CT 6 years ago, and every time I visit the antique center I go home with a unique find. The first time was a Victorian pin cushion. The second, a Victorian lamp. We've purchased re-enactment swords, Harvard glasses, and all kinds of little odds and ends. You have to dig for really well priced objects, but most booths will usually have a discount. I highly recommend stopping in and browsing, it takes on average about an hour to do a full loop through.

Damn. You cannot get much better or much MORE than this in a one-stop, afternoon browsing, antique-ing experience! Plan to shop for a couple of solid hours if you really want to enjoy this place. There is so much to see! Many cool pieces, reasonably prices. Fun. Open Sundays! Don't miss it!

Had the best time at the Clinton Antique Center. The two brothers working were friendly, helpful, and made our experience one we can't wait to go back to. They chatted with us, talked about antiques and really made the experience lovely. There were so many different displays, with so many unique artifacts and antiques. We founds lots of hidden gems. You need a significant amount of time to be able to get through everything. We were there for almost 2 hours and only got through a quarter of the store. The best part was that we were hitting on the closing time and we were told to just take our time. We didn't feel rushed or that we didn't matter. Again I can't wait to come back. I'm a collector of fire king and I find something I didn't even know existed like this McDonald's mug....it really made my day.

Clinton Antique Center holds a myriad of treasures. If you're looking for something old, kitschy, funky, antique, classic, or vintage... they've got it. The store is comprised of items sold by the owner, and stalls where other individuals can sell their antique items. Prices seemed fair. Just a for instance... they have old lunch boxes, vintage signs, classic posters, collectible glasses, records, jewelery, pennants, mirrors, phones.... I could go on and on. A junk lover's paradise! One of the owners saw me looking through some postcards from days of yore, and asked me what type I was looking for. When I mentioned I wanted ones from Connecticut, he went out to his truck and brought me in a stack, and cut me a deal when I bought all of them. Rockin!

Lots to look at and buy, you won't see it all in a day. Prices are mostly reasonable. You'll find the most unique and vintage pieces.

This was such a beautiful and rare gem to stumble upon!…read more I recently was able to spend some time exploring antique stores around the shoreline, and Old Beautiful was the absolute best. I was greeted by David, the shop owner, and he was impressively helpful and knowledgeable about some ironstone I was interested in. He helped me to make a purchase I know I will have forever and was overjoyed to find. This is not a shop for people interested in knick knacks or faux vintage wares, this is the real deal. Each item is meticulously chosen and the owner clearly has a fantastic eye. I was so relieved to find this shop after spending time in other "antique" shops that left much to be desired. Check this place out if you are interested in aesthetically pleasing and authentic items!

That ended as soon as I opened the door. My friend and I were not greeted by the rude gentleman who sat behind the desk. He didn't even respond when I complimented him on a piece. There were two items I wanted to purchase but decided I'd rather deal with people who know how to treat their customers. A friendly demeanor, a knod or smile acknowledging someone has entered your store, can actually produce a sale. Merchants in town agreed that many complain about him. I still love Essex and it's many shops.

Never again! Nick the owner is a lowdown Jeckyl & Hyde! The woman behind the counter (his…read moredaughter?) was fine but even she cannot control this shyster. Frankly it's time for this man to retire before he drives away any more potential customers. My sisters and our children have dollhouses & there were several minis in a locked cabinet on the upper floor of Hey-Day. Most were stuffed into boxes on the bottom (you cannot see what they are) so we asked if the cabinet could be unlocked. Nick came upstairs & unlocked it. He spent the next 25 minutes in a breathless ramble about his ENTIRE life story... talked incessantly, barely drew breath & said repeatedly "Those things won't cost much, I got them in the 70's when a dollhouse store closed. I'll give you a BIG deal on everything. You can have a lot of that for free if you buy enough of it. Take all you like... " This entire time my husband & I sorted through old, dusty, dirty boxes (with several dead bugs inside) in a case filled with cobwebs. Plastic bags on some of these minis were so old & brittle they literally fell apart when touched- the floor had shards of brittle plastic bags all over it when we were done. Most of the minis were junk, with no value but we thought the kids would like a few pots, pans, dishes & used one of the lids of the filthy boxes to gather our selections. When finished, we returned every box to the cabinet, carefully arranged it (better than before) & made sure we didn't break anything. It took almost 30 minutes & when we were done our hands were black & we had dirt on the front of our shirts. We were ready to pay but Nick would NOT STOP YAMMERING, so we walked out & made our way downstairs. He followed, repeating "I'll give you a good deal! It won't cost much but you need to pay in cash". (HE WANTED TO CHEAT THE TAX MAN! Pay in cash = no State of CT taxes!) Downstairs we met his daughter & she pulled out a sales slip & began sorting through the box to tally the items with price stickers. My husband gave her a tiny glass duck from a downstairs case & they said they would throw it in for free. That was where decency stopped & the shady circus began! Nick, "Mr. Jeckyll" a seemingly "friendly chatterbox" turned into "Mr. Hyde"! Folks, you had to be there to experience the nightmare that followed! He insisted we be charged full price for everything! There was only one quality item in our lot marked $25. on the outside of the box and on the item itself it was marked $25. along with an $18. markdown sticker. Both OLD stickers were placed on the item BY THE FORMER DOLLHOUSE SHOP OWNER but Nick didn't like that the item had been marked down so he LIED and claimed HE put the "sales price" on the bottom of the item. No, he did not! He didn't even know or believe the $18. sticker was there until we showed him! At this point, it began to dawn on me that this guy is a shyster, a con man. He led us to believe he would sell us the little box of cheap, dirty minis for a steep discount. Most everything was marked $1. $2. $3. but he told his daughter "Those are all $5.00". What? For 25 minutes he insisted we were going to get a steep discount but now he's trying to charge us MORE than the sticker prices? He kept repeating "I have to get my money!" to his daughter. I wasn't born yesterday. It slowly dawned on me that this guy was shady. Shocked & disgusted, I almost walked out! When she realized this she tried to make him stop but he kept ranting that he had to "make money!" I removed a few minis from the box, having decided I would only buy a few and not let him get away with his filthy sham but his daughter clearly understood what he was doing. I explained the story he fed us upstairs & said we'd pay $30-$40. for the lot. She nodded & assured me she would take care of me. She must know he does this & she kept telling him "I have this", "I'll take care of it", etc but he would not back off. He pawed through the box insisting on OUTRAGEOUS prices until the total came to a whopping $70. for 1970's JUNK minis with little to no value, nothing collectible. They'd been rotting in that grimy, dusty cobweb cabinet for YEARS & he says "It will all be sold come summer". Another obvious lie! Finally we had enough & walked out. HE CHASED US TO OUR CAR shouting "How much do you want to pay!" but by then his lies made a transaction impossible. I wasn't giving him a dime after his failed money-grubbing bait & switch routine! LIE & CHEAT SOMEONE ELSE "MR. HYDE"! I'll NEVER go back! AVOID & BEWARE! Nobody forced your empty promises of a discount, it was all part of your slimy scheme. You should have honored your promise & made an easy $40. but your word is as good as the DIRT in your filthy cabinet! May your worthless minis ROT in that case another 39 years! This is how he deals with cheap minis! You would be a fool to trust him with gold, silver & jewelry transactions! AVOID THIS STORE LIKE THE PLAGUE!

******WARING*****WARNING*******WARNING******* THIS IS THE…read moreACTUAL MESSAGE I SENT TO THIS COMPANY. I AM POSTING THE HONEST TRUTH. PLEASE READ SO YOU CAN KNOW THE PRACTICES OF THIS COMPANY AND THEIR VENDORS. THIS IS THE ONLY RECOURSE PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF HAVE WHEN TREATED UNFAIRLY.*********** Hello. I received my item in as described condition. Thank you for being accurate and answering my questions prior to bidding. However I do have a complaint in regards to shipping. First off I do a lot of shipping myself and have a UPS account so I was able to reverse the shipping destination and calculate the actual shipping fee for myself. When I originally spoke to the UPS provided in your shipping information, I spoke with a man and let him know I was looking for a shipping quote and was referred by Kabe auctions. I gave him the lot number and described the item and dimensions that you gave me in prior message. Glass candy bowl 4x4.5 inches that weighed 3 pounds. I also gave him my zip code and suggestion of using a 10x10x10 inch box to ship it in. He agreed that would be a good size box to safely ship this item. He then quoted my 37 dollars for pick up, materials, and shipping fee through UPS. I though to myself that was reasonable so I gave permission to use them. After a few days, I contacted the UPS store and was told the total was now 82.00 dollars. I said that was a big difference from the original quote of 37 dollars. He then took a moment to double check the price and realized the item was less than 100 dollars so there was no insurance needed. The final cost I paid was 79 dollars. At this point, I felt like he had me over a barrel because the item was paid for, packaged and ready to ship, and in their possession. I also do not like to argue over money. I am too old for that type of thing so I went ahead and paid. I received the item and it was shipped in 3 boxes. Triple boxed. I did not request 3 boxes. I asked for a single 10x10x10 box with bubble wrap and foam peanuts. The exterior box dimension ended up being 12x12x12 weighing about 4 pounds. I also happened to know the reason it was shipped in 3 boxes. They use the extra packaging materials to justify the inflated price they ultimately charge the customer. No explanation was really given to me on why such a big difference from 37 to 79 dollars to ship such a small item and I did not receive a detailed receipt breaking down the shipping charge. I did a reverse shipping label purchase to see what the actual shipping cost would be. I entered your address with a box dimension of 12x12x12 weighing 4 pounds. It came up to be 25.34. So I was basically charged 54 dollars for the materials and labor. I understand a business wanting to make a profit. I really do. I get it. My problem is The difference from the original quote of 37 to actual fee of 79 knowing it cost 25 to actually ship. I feel like a victim. I feel like I was bamboozled. That is not good feeling. That is not good business. To tell someone one thing then not even coming close to living up to your word. I understand their may have been a difference from the original quote to the final cost but really? That much? At this point it is not about the money but the principle. As a customer, I do not have any recourse in this situation other than to log my complaint to you and take this experience to whatever forum that allows folks like me to vent their frustration. Maybe if more people like myself warned other people of this kind of behavior, that something will be done to prevent this from happening. I really do have time to be messaging and posting my bad experiences with companies and their bad business practices but in this particular situation, I feel compelled to warn other people that this king of behavior exists and is attached to your company. I do not blame Kabe directly but just like anything else, Kabe should be aware of what their vendors are doing to their customers. Like poor management. If you do not know how your vendor is treating people then shame on you. I suggest that you not use that vendor anymore. This was not an innocent mistake. This was a calculated strategy to extract as much money possible from me. It is very obvious. You should also follow the lead of the more established auction companies and focus on transparency. Another suggestion is to put the shipping cost in the item description so the bidder knows exactly what they are paying. No surprises and no complaint or warning postings on social media. Anyone with a grain of intelligence can easily figure out how to do that.
