If you're lucky enough to be in the Winchester VA area in June and July you're in apple, peach and corn season. Take advantage. Their produce is second to none and at least twice a week we've loaded up on their peaches, tomatoes (heirlooms too), corn and greens, which are simply amazing. I don't know of another farm market in the area that carries fresh salad greens. They are to die for. They also carry A2 milk, an array of cheeses, local ice cream, baked goods and jarred jams and sauces/salsas. I am going to miss this place more than any other establishment in Winchester.

One might think this is supposed to be a good-vibes kinda place - that's the whole country store schtick, but... no good vibes were to be had that day. At any rate, all the stuff turned out to be really good - but the dog treats had an extremely unfavorable look - kinda like ground up tires. Regardless, we won't be returning.

Realizing salt exists would help with a lot of things. The best thing we had was the Haggis and if you'e had Haggis you know that's pretty bad. There was also no effort to bus the tables when everyone was done. A large number of people started doing it themselves. It is a pretty place and I don't know anything about the other elements of the business (the store, etc) but I would not consider it for an event based on this experience.

We were charged for 277 lbs. of beef, and they delivered 156 lbs. of beef. So, we ended up paying over $15.00 a pound. Their 3rd party butcher did not follow the cut sheet. The steaks were supposed to be 1.5" thick. Click on the pics for details. The only 2 steaks we received are 3/4 of an inch thick. There was supposed to be very little ground beef, which Homestead acknowledged in writing. They delivered 100 lbs. of ground beef. Additionally, the butchering was done so poorly that none of the beef is usable, except for maybe pet food. We found out that the beef business is actually a 3rd party operation. When we complained, they would not allow us to return the beef and only returned a small portion of our money, which did not cover the cost of the 126 lbs. of beef we did not receive. We used to love this place when it operated as a real farm. BUYER BEWARE!!
