Ottawa Trainyards - Kettlemans Bagel Co.

I ventured over to Ottawa Trainyards to check it out. I didn't really need anything, but I did get…read moresome cool items. While waiting for the traffic lights to change, I liked seeing a store directory. I came here without any knowledge of the stores here. I liked coming here to figure it out. The Trainyards is like Heartland Town Centre in Mississauga. It is a bunch of stores that cover a lot of land. Think of it as a neighbourhood of stores. You have to strategically figure out where to park and walk to the stores that are around you. During my visit, I parked a grand total of three times. I stopped by Michaels and got some good items that were on sale. I was a happy shopper! I then parked in front of the Gap outlet. I also visited Old Navy and Sail that were on either side of the store. I then decided to drive and check out what other stores were there. I spotted Kettleman's Bagel Co. and parked to have lunch. The selection of stores is cool. If you are more of a mall shopper, this setup may not be for you. If you do like box stores, you'd like it here. My only problem I had was dealing with a woman in a minivan who was waiting for me to leave my spot to pull through. She actually honked at me. I didn't appreciate it and gave her a signal to say that I was staying. I was pulling up my GPS and I was under no obligation to move out of a parking spot to convenience an impatient idiot. (289)

There's a Kettleman's Bagel shop here; wish we had one in Kanata / Stittsville! The mall was big enough to be inviting to return. We will definitely come back! And I will update this review when we do.

    L L Bean - Boot key chains

I like LL Bean. Frankly, I don't shop there as often as I used to…read more When I was an undergraduate student, I found a pair of suede purple Mary Jane shoes from LL Bean. These shoes were made by Rieker Shoes. I loved them so much. Sadly, LL Bean doesn't offer this company's shoes anymore. They brought me to love LL Bean. I have been to the flagship store in Freeport, ME. Within the last four years or so, LL Bean has been opening stores up in Canada. I had only visited the store in Barrie. I have yet to visit the one in Oakville. This LL Bean store is located at the Ottawa Trainyards. I was there to shop and eat. I decided to check this store out while I was there. I dropped by after Canada Day. It still had all things Canadiana displayed in the store when you first walk in. There was a sale going on where everything was 15% off. I will say that I found the prices to be expensive. There was a cool t-shirt that I liked. It was going for $75. Ouch! Even after the discount, it's still expensive. I did like the cargo pants and lightweight puffy jackets. The problem was that it was hot and humid in Ottawa. Just looking at these items made me sweat... haha! I was more interested in summer clothing. Caps were the exception. They were going for 20% off. I love caps these days, but there wasn't one screaming for me to own it. You can get a book on the history of this company. I liked the pocket knives and Yeti drinkware. I oddly went with a couple of smaller items. I got a keychain with LL Bean's signature boot on it. I also got a sticker, which is now on my laptop. I had the nicest woman at the checkout. I was pleased to get my 15% off. I put both items in my purse because they were so small. It was fun browsing in this store. I like the casual clothes and footwear that it offers, but don't like the high prices. (277)

Then in 2020 they opened 3 more stores in Canada and this one in the Ottawa Trainyards was one of them. L.L. Bean is like the epitome of preppy, in my opinion. Kind of like Eddie Bauer. I don't like any of their clothes for myself personally, too symmetric, too modest and not fashion forward enough, lol. However, it's a look I love on men, haha. Prices are high, but quality is good. I'm glad to see international companies expanding to Canada, but admittedly, I won't be a regular customer. This store in particular is a decent size. Everything is very neatly organized. It's similar to other locations in the USA. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot.

Shepherd's is a unique women's clothing store. Their aesthetic is drapey, flowy and asymmetric…read more(very similar to the "lagenlook" style). I love this style, but unfortunately, do not have the height to pull it off, lol. They do have some more fitted and structured items, but I would say the majority of their stuff is of a baggier fit (think Caftans and Ponchos). Also, I find that they don't carry a lot of smaller sizes, so if you are smaller than a North American 6, you likely won't find much that fits you. However, they also carry jewelry and other accessories. I have never bought anything at Shepherd's because nothing I've tried on has ever fit me, but I do like looking around at the cool styles. And maybe one of these days they will actually carry something that fits me. Prices are a bit on the higher end (tops $75-$175, pants are about $100 and dresses are around the $200 mark - and we're talking casual to semi-formal dresses). However, the styles are a bit different and you will likely not see too many other people on the street wearing the same thing. Some of their stuff I find a bit matronly, but some of their stuff is really neat. I loathe to use the term "mature woman" but let's just say that I doubt any tweens, teens, or even those in their 20s would find anything there to their liking. Shepherd's used to have a few stores in Ottawa (Rideau Centre, Bayshore and a brief stint at Tanger), but now their only location is at Trainyards.

They are filled with online returns for a fraction of the price (especially if it was an online exclusive). Being a shortie I love their petite jeans. Size 0 Petite, no need to hem! Hurray! I love Old Navy for cheap casual bumming around clothes! This location is large. Lots of price verification machines throughout the store. Lots of fitting rooms. And they have washrooms. I did well scoring Canada-themed t-shirts at cheap prices. I didn't have anything I truly needed to buy during this store visit, but I did see a roller skate t-shirt that I have loved ever since I saw it a few months back. My willpower does kick in now and again. Considering that I did buy three t-shirts on this trip, I took a pass on getting the roller skate one. I'll live. This store was bright and pleasant. There were decent prices and tons of selection. The cashout lineup seemed to be moving nicely. What wasn't pleasant was a woman in a minivan who parked behind my car just as I got into my car. She wanted to pull through and ended up honking at me. I'm sorry, but I need my GPS to guide me around the city. I am under no obligation to move immediately and I need time to figure out my next destination as a tourist. And, where are your manners? Who honks in a parking lot when you want to pull through a parking spot and are impatient about it? Oh, rude you, that's who. That was a first for me. My windows were open. I put my hand out to signal that I was parked. She ended up straightening her minivan, got out of it with her herd of kids, and headed into Old Navy. I was proud that I showed restraint. For a moment, I thought that flipping her the bird was appropriate. However, stooping down to her level doesn't make this situation any better. I feel for her kids. Her behaviour is hopefully not inherited by them when they become drivers. (221)
