There are a LOT of Bowling Clubs in Adelaide, most with grass greens, but a growing number have made the change to synthetic tracks, saving money, water, a full time green keeper and also giving them the ability to play all year round. Personally I am not the biggest fan of synthetic tracks. I am a bit of a purist and love the feel and smell of a grass green. Plus I have many mates who work as green keepers and I want all of them to stay employed!
Clearview was one of the first clubs to jump over to the Dark Side and put in synthetic. Although they have just replaced one with new material, the other two are still that tennis court plastic pile with heaps of sand (scratches the buggery out of your bowls).
Putting the greens aside for the moment, Clearview is a really nice club full of friendly people and some real chatterbox's. Their club room is very large, with two major areas which would easily house 100 people each for a function (probably more). They are also one of the more wheelchair accessible clubs in Adelaide, and have embraced technology with, as far as I know, the only automatically opening door in the City! WOW KAPOW!
Clearview has a very successful Night Owl competition, and often hosts the state finals, so don't be shy if you live around the area and want to give the game a crack. read more
