Our experience at at Thomas has been a great one. My daughter loves it here, she loves her…read moreteachers, especially her math and Science classes. We came here at the start of the Covid pandemic when public schools were not able to provide our family with the reassurance we needed, that they would do everything r they could to keep kids in the classroom. St. Thomas made good on that promise. Now ending the pandemic (or at least I hope so) I am so very grateful to this school for providing a safe place for my daughter to learn. My daughter is thriving in her classes and coming home to tell me about all the amazing things she got to do and learn while at school. The teachers are so helpful and go above and beyond to educate. During science fair, I had a newborn at home, and Mrs. Vetter took my daughter aside to help her create her science project board, even helping on an administrative day, when the kids were out of school. The last few years have been very difficult on all schools and I feel like St Thomas, as small as they are, have provided us with a safe, happy and educational experience. In the 2 years we have been here, my daughter has excelled in her classes and we can see a huge difference in her reading, math and science. Her love of school is so obvious, she comes home excited to tell us what she has learned. She learns Spanish EVERYDAY! Spanish is included in the daily curriculum, which I find so awesome. They spend tons of time outside, my daughter comes home dirty most days, lol, she is playing, having fun and is happy here. I am so grateful for St Thomas. Schools have had it hard these last couple of years, it has not been easy to hire, get classes covered and stay open.St thomas stated open, masked up, taught outside, used cleaning procedures and fancy air filters, all to keep kids in school. Now, we are happy that these precautions have lessened, and will continue to lessen as the community spread lessens Also, a reviewer said that the school hired a sub without a background check. It is my understanding, because I asked the board, that the sub was background checked and had references through CCISD. St thomas runs their own, but during this time they used a substitute teacher through CCISD, which isn't their normal practice to be fair, but because their own subs were also out sick or at home with someone sick, or were already teaching elsewhere, they used a sub that was in good standing through CCISD. It is my understanding that the public school is asking parents and college students with a small amount of hourly credits to teach bc of the difficulty with hiring during a global pandemic. As a parent, I am okay with how that was handled, given the current climate. St thomas has been bc a wonderful learning environment for my child, we love the small classrooms, amazing teachers and friendly environment

I debated on writing a review because Ms. Sara and Mickey are great people, but I feel the need to…read moremake other parents aware of the effects this place had on my child. I will start out by saying that having Mrs. Kahn as my daughters teacher was the biggest mistake I ever made as a parent. There would be times Mrs. Kahn would say," Oh your child wouldn't sit down in circle time and would go play with the toys instead, or I know her shirt has milk and paint all over it but she got upset when I tried to change her so I left it on." The first thought that came to my mind was," Aren't you the teacher?" My child wasn't bad at all, she was just excited to be in an environment with so many stimulating things in it, and as a teacher you would think her 15+ years of experience would've taught her how to handle those situations. It's as if she was so used to having perfect children and got flustered when a child didn't listen when she told them to do something the first time. And as far as my child learning anything, she didn't learn anything from her other than how to line up and go outside. The funny thing is when I would be on break from school or had her for the holidays, I would teach her the smallest things and my daughter would catch on so fast that everyone in my family could see an improvement. Why was it that she wasn't learning anything at school when she was there 5 days a week, but as soon as I taught her something on a 3 day break all of a sudden you see improvement? I'll tell you why, it's because Mrs. Kahn was NOT paying attention to my child and paid more attention to other children and was busy begging parents to give money or food to her for the parties she always threw (as if tuition wasn't enough). If she spent more time on educating the children then planning parties, maybe the children could actually learn something. My husband also would drop our daughter off and say to me ," Does she not like our daughter? She always gives us a look like she doesn't want her there, but when other children come in, she gets excited and gives them hugs." Also you know something is wrong with a teacher when the director pulls her own grandchild out of their class, and transfers them into another teachers class. In all since leaving within 3 months my child can count to 100 and can read at 3 years old, and it's all because I taught her and took her out of that school. My advice is to anybody looking at this school, DO NOT enroll your child in her class. She's obviously more focused on throwing parties and doesn't know a thing about teaching in a structured environment.

This program is all computer based. The students don't get taught by the teachers. It is all independent study and they don't get assigned homework. As soon as I saw that her grades were slipping I had SEVERAL conversations with her teachers who told me not to worry and that all students were struggling. The teacher insisted I do not pull her out of the program and emailed me all these articles about the program promising me that my daughter will be better off staying in. WELL NOW SHE IS IN JEOPARDY OF BEING RETAINED because she did not pass the STAAR exam. She had to go to summer school and retake the STAAR and I can't even access her scores because the access code I was given is NOT working. This program is a huge disappointment and a big JOKE! I hope other parents read this so they are warned before their child goes through what my child is going through now. Another very suspicious thing I noticed is that my daughter brought home her report card with letter grades (P=Pass & F=Failed). Now when I go online I noticed those letter grades have all been replaced with numerical grades. I have printed copies of both. I think this school is doing very shady business and is intentionally misleading parents so that they can get get extra money for student assistance programs.
