So as we were setting up the camper a staff member came over and gave us bracelets to wear for the weekend. No problem. But we were the only people we saw all weekend with the blue bands on, lol. If you enjoy loud parades of country music blaring golf carts, this is the park for you. ALL weekend long. Now with that being said, once quiet time hit, it was in fact, quiet. I get the feeling this park is mostly seasonal campers and those that are not seasonal are probably frequent campers. There didn't seem to be much communication as far as those of us that are new to this campground. For instance, activities. We happened to spot a small note on a cork board in the office about Bingo. Had we not stopped in for another reason, we would never have seen this. Maybe add an activity board around the restrooms? That way others can learn about the activities if they have no reason to go to the camp store. Another example, there was a town parade for Memorial day. Maybe again, put something on the activities board about that? Not only to let families know there is a parade going by the campground but also to warn campers that if you need to get out, you will not be able to during certain times. I like that they are adding fun things to the park and oh, the water. Beautiful!! Believe it or not, it was unseasonably cold for the end of May. Too cold to get in the water, lol. We hauled our kayaks up here only to not be able to get in the water but that natural spring is what is going to bring us back. I gotta get in that water! Make sure to stop in the camp store about ask about the "treasures" buried underwater. Fascinating. The park was clean; the staff seamed nice. I started out this review with a 3 star but as I got to this point in my writing, I talked myself in to another star. But really, communication for activities is a big deal when camping- consider fixing that. We will 100% be back- just to kayak in the water is reason enough.

The private patio with a grill and fire pit had a view of the water. It was also impeccably clean. Being able to rent a golf cart made traveling around the resort with two kids a breeze. From the beach to the multiple playgrounds, we were able to get anywhere we needed. There are so many amenities as well. The spring fed lake is gorgeous. There is a kids swimming area and a deeper adult swimming area with a swimming mat and a floating dock. If lake swimming isn't for you, there is also a heated pool. We also used the Wibit (floating obstacle course), kayaks, and paddle boats. All the rentals were reasonably priced and were great additions to our stay. The camp store and cafe are great as well. We were able to grab pizza and ice cream during our stay. We will definitely be back.

The Starr Gennett Building falls under the umbrella of Richmond Parks and with its unique interior and exterior features is an ideal location for those who want an event with that extra something special. The architecture of the building is incredibly unique. It looks and feels like the historical building that it actually is. The grounds around the building offer picnic tables, abundant parking, benches, a historical sidewalk, and a surprising amount of greenery considering this is actually located in the heart of Richmond. The Starr Gennett Building does not have air conditioning and this should be considered, though it has quite a few grated windows offering a consistent airing out and breeze. However, having just officiated a wedding in extraordinary heat this is definitely something to be considered. There's a Gennett Records logo on the building indicating the building's history. The inside has a strong industrial vibe. I thought of the Circle City Industrial Complex here in my hometown of Indy as a comparison. However, it's just such a wondrous space. It almost makes me want to get married. Almost. Starr Gennett is considered a historic site and a certificate of liability is required to rent it. You also must rent it from 2-182 days in advance. It's available 7 days per week, 8am - 10pm. In case it's not obvious, the building was originally built for the Starr Gennett Records Company and is part of the legacy of Starr Piano Company and Gennett Records. There's a Starr Gennett Gallery and Walk of Fame also located in Richmond. As is nearly always true of historic sites, accessibility is not perfect here. However, it's surprisingly solid and it would be super easy to facilitate a meaningful event here that was accessible to all.

If you like watching your kids play on a variety of swings, slides, and climbing equipment scattered throughout the park, the have those here too! The park is a mature park with lots of shade trees that are greatly appreciated on days like the one I visited here. There are narrow roads that meander through the park since the place is quite large. On the south end near the aquatic center, there is an amphitheater for racing and some barns near there. I didn't see any horses during my visit, but I assume that the barns and track are for those. Must be a seasonal thing like the swimming and water slides. The park also has the Longwood Covered Bridge which was relocated here for preservation. There are a couple sculptures and a few plaques to commemorate bits of history tied to the park & Connersville. Generally, there are a lot of options for individuals. The only reason I didn't give this a five star review is that the park looks like it could use some attention. The tennis courts has cracks that have been sealed, but the scraggly white lines should have been painted over to match the court. Very distracting. Some of the older playground equipment could used a fresh coat of paint too. The garden area by the park admin building was in need of some trimming and the brick around the fountain could stand some work too. Little things, but they do separate an older park from one that has the latest features. A wish list would be a walking trail separate from the roads. I don't like having to continuously watch over my shoulder for vehicles coming up behind me, or having to walk through the grass when it's wet from dew. During my seminary years, I spent quite a bit of time at Richmond, Indiana's Glen Miller Park. It's…read morea 194 acre park on Richmond's eastside directly off Main Street. Glen Miller Park also houses the administrative offices for Richmond Parks. Glen Miller Park opened on June 6, 1885. It's named for Colonel John Ford Miller, a railroad executive who'd bought the land specifically to establish a park and ended up selling it to Richmond five years after acquiring it. One of the things that attracted Miller to the Park was its freshwater springs. He had them tested and they were noted as being high in iron (which was believed at the time to be good for your health - people still fill water jugs here). In 1890, Glen Miller Park established a zoo within its grounds and it grew in 1908. By 1964, it had 250 different birds and animals. Unfortunately, it started to decline and by 1984 was named by Parade Magazine as one of the nation's 10 worst zoos. It closed in 1986 and all the animals were relocated. The entrance to the park is marked by the Madonna of the Trial Monument - it's one of 12 monuments built by the Daughters of the American Revolution along U.S. 40 dedicated to the spirit of pioneer women. The Richmond Rose Garden is also housed here. At one point, Richmond was known as The Rose City as it served as home to three of the nation's premier growers and marketers of cut roses. Park amenities include a band shell, concessions, fishing, the Rose Garden, golf course, nature area, picnic areas, an ADA accessible playground, restrooms, both open and closed shelters, an 11,000 square foot skate park, splash pad, and tennis courts. You can, of course, rent the shelters for your events. As the most popular park in Richmond, Glen Miller Park hosts a lot of the city's special events. It's had occasional issues with crime, but I've been here many times during my weekends in Richmond and have never had any issues. Because it's on the main drag through Richmond, police presence is not uncommon here.

I expected a better adult presence on a floor of 'tween girls (going into 7th grade). 2. When I went to take a peek at her participating in drills, I saw her station's "coach" looking everywhere but at the girls. He never once stopped to correct any of them or re-teach the drill, and several girls needed correction. I'm guessing he was a girl's dad who signed on to "coach" at the camp in exchange for a free or reduced rate for his daughter. I peeked in at other stations and saw similar situations. The drill is announced over a loud speaker, there is a demonstration of one or two reps, and then the kids go through the drill, without any input from the station coach. For close to $500, I expected more "coach" involvement and at least a little bit of coach input at the stations. If I felt that my daughter actually got something out of the camp, I would not hesitate to send her again. That is not the case. I will look for other camps this summer. You would do well to do the same.

I was preaching at First Christian Church this morning directly across the parking lot and got there early enough that I had time to wheel through Tenth Street Park and check it out. Tenth Street Park was the first official park in the city of Richmond. It primarily serves as a casual gathering space and annually hosts the city's Family Fun Fest. Parking is primarily on the street and I had no problem finding abundant spaces. While there's not technically accessible parking, the streets around the park are wide enough and traffic light enough that it shouldn't be a problem. The park is filled with mature trees and benches. There are no other park-like features. There's not a playground. This is, quite simply, a greenspace. There is a historical marker commemorating the presence of Camp Wayne during the Civil War. I liked this park. After driving a couple hours from Indy, it was a nice place to wind down and pray before I was preaching less than a block away. This is technically right off "downtown" Richmond and it's sort of a combination business/residential district. It's a well-maintained park that is certainly no longer considered one of Richmond's primary park spaces. That said, if you're in the area it's worth a visit.

It was a very family driven place and there was a lot for everyone. The water area is so good when it's sunny and there's the play area for the kids the shelters for barbecue and picnics and a lot of trails which are pet friendly. The rain dampened our visit but the park in itself was extremely good. DNR facilities were 24/7 they kept a strong vigilance in the camp, which was very comforting. Other than that all service is like fire wood ice was available at short notice.

I've mostly been stuck at home the past few weeks as I've been recovering from major surgery. On…read moreoccasion, I've been able to get friends to take me places or at least go for a drive to get me out. One such drive was to Whitewater State Park. Whitewater State Park was the 16th state park in Indiana and was founded in 1949. It's actually the third largest. It has 200 acre Whitewater Lake along with shoreline hiking, flat-water boating, swimming, fishing, and camping opportunities. It has 9 miles of horseback riding trails. The park area was originally purchased by Union, Fayette, Franklin, and Wayne counties to serve as a memorial for those lost during World War II. Additional activities include picnic areas with shelters (reservations required), interpretive naturalist services, 1 boat launch ramp at Whitewater Lake, bridle trails, cabins, fishing/ice fishing, hiking trails, canoe/paddleboat/rowboat rentals, swimming, and two marinas. Camping includes 236 electric sites, 45 non-electric, and 37 horsemen's primitive sites. There's a camp store, dumping station, and youth tent area. There are five hiking trails - all are considered moderate in difficulty. They range from 1-2.7 miles in length, though at least one also has a short loop. There really isn't a single trail that I'd say is accessible, though there are parts of trails I was able to access. That said, Whitewater in general isn't particularly wheelchair friendly other than in the more truly "public" areas. As an experienced wheelchair user, I doubt I'd head out on these trails alone. Whitewater hosts a variety of events throughout the year. While I wish it was more accessible here, I still consider this one of Indiana's more underappreciated natural gems.
