    $11 chicken quesadilla

May 20, 2026 @ 7:30 pm Food made fresh but it was slow. Took 15 minutes for three birria tacos and a chicken quesadilla. $30. Tasty. 3% charge for credit card. Clean restaurant. As soon as patrons left they cleaned and wiped down the table... maybe because it was near closing time? Portions small for price.

Strawberry cream drink $6. 5 out of 5 stars!

Good Mexican food in Hawaii?!? We first went to go have breakfast at Moena Café. Inside was crowded with guests crammed into the restaurant and a long waitlist and people standing outside in the hot sun. After putting our name on the list, we looked at this restaurant two doors down and saw that they also serve breakfast, inside were no customers, there was no line, and staff were ready to serve right away so we took our name off of the list at Moena and went to try this place instead. I am so glad that we did. We were served our food right away and it was delicious with excellent ingredients. The staff were warm and welcoming, giving us whatever we needed and we even got to take home a treat, Tres Leches, that we never get to have here in Hawaii. While we ate, we had a nice view of the water from our table through the window where we watched people come back in from a dive trip. Go check it out!

The interior decorations are colorful with umbrellas, and little flags hanging from the ceiling as well as Mexican themed art on the walls. The waitress who took our order was friendly. There was a long wait for the food. We got chips and salsa, steak tacos plate, and a chicharron Gordita with chicken. The waitress said the chicharron would be crushed into the Gordita and asked what kind of meat I wanted. I said chicken. My husband said his steak tacos were the worst tacos he'd ever had. The steak was overcooked, almost burnt. The rice that came with his tacos was mushy but we don't know if that was intentional. My Gordita had a thick crust, crispy outside and chewy inside. There was no chicharron or chicken in it. But it did have pulled pork. I was confused. I wouldn't have picked this surprise. But I didn't want to send it back because it took quite a long time to get our order in the first place. The chips were the best part of the meal. Sorry, I would not come back. We didn't particularly enjoy this.

I made my initial visit to this new location last Sunday...there's one in Wahiawa...for Clau & Chui's Cocina in the Koko Marina Shopping Center. Sunday, you ask? A Mexican restaurant open on a day of rest, family, and worship. Food is sacred in its own way; and I will not refrain from Mexican cuisine on a Sunday. Open from 1100a till 300p; Tuesday - Saturday, it is 1100a to 800p. Closed on Monday. I asked for their listed special by the POS. Mole Chicken Enchilada Plate. The thick, dark sauce was strong...and came with the usual, beans and rice. Solid fare. I can't really judge until I've had tacos...but it was good Mexican fare. I dined in...as I waited for a nearby store to open. Colorful interior...clean and with a good view of the marina...but I chose the opposite side of the dining area. Watermelon Agua Fresca was fresh and hydrating. They were out of horchata. I did have some negatives. I got served on a paper plate. And it took 20+ minutes...I ate at their counter facing the parking lot. By the way, Koko Marina's stalls are wide.

Taquitos, birria tacos (3 there), and Chile relleno plate.

More like a 3.75 maybe but definitely better than a 3 star. We've come here a few times now, one dine in and several takeout orders. The location is easy to find in Koko Marina Shopping Center, it's right next to Zippy's. There's a lot of parking which is convenient. The service is friendly and welcoming. Restaurant is small but cozy with fun decor. There are a few tables inside and some outside facing the marina. Sometimes takes a little to get the food but that means it is fresh which is something I'll wait for if worth it. Food is delicious and what I imagine to be authentic. The flavor is great and we enjoy the food very much. Chips and salsa can be addicting. The mole is unique and not something easy to find on island and it was fun to try something new again. Flavor was complex and a dish you keep taking bites from. Taquitos are yummy, crisp, and have all the toppings you'd want on top (hello Mexican cheese). Fish taco is a favorite, fish is fried nicely, slaw and sauce round the dish out well. Chile relleno is another favorite and so cheesy with a hint of spice. Birria tacos have good flavor, appreciated the nice crisp exterior, not too oily, and moist saucy meat with consume, but the size, portion, and cost just seems a little lopsided to me. The prices are quite high for the portion which I think has become more apparent over time. The area itself probably makes prices even higher. We all have to be reasonable though that the cost of living (ingredients, gas, etc) has increased which reflects the cost. To be fair, we came during one of the storm weekends so it could have affected things a little more too. Will come back again! Their dessert was pretty great too. Ask for their tres leches flavors.

The atmosphere is great. It's just what you want from a Mexican place. The food is amazing. Some of the best Mexican food on island. The service was amazing. We ordered at 1:49pm not realizing they close at 2pm for a few hours. Staff never bothered us or said a word as we decided to sit down and eat. We realized at 2:45pm that they have been closed for 45 min. We quickly left but the staff never bothered us or complained. I'll definitely be coming back.

Lunch at Koko Marina Center in Hawaii Kai, Honolulu, Hawai'i... My friend asked me where I wanted to eat, and I replied: Clau And Chui's Cocina. Of course, she hadn't heard of this relatively new business. Located next to Zippy's, the free, shared parking lot is much appreciated! If you need the restroom, get the code and go down the sidewalk and up the stairs. Inside, the restaurant is colorfully decorated with festive decorations and beautiful umbrellas on the ceiling! Outside, the seating has a great view of the marina. At the counter, I ordered the three fish (mahimahi) tacos and the Cocktel de Camarones. Both were spicy for me, but fresh and delicious! I enjoyed the crunchy chips that paired nicely with the twenty or so peeled shrimp! The horchata drink was just right! Note: all drinks are in the refrigerator - grab your own after payment. There's a self-service soft drink dispenser, too. Next time, I'd try the birria tacos, quesadillas, and the chimichangas! Thanks to the cheerful staff who brought our meals to our table and provided takeout boxes for our leftovers!

Service was friendly and the place is clean and cute with all the bright colors. I had no idea they've been here for almost a year. I'm coming back cuz I'd like to try so many other dishes. Today I only tried the street taco plate. Two tacos with rice and beans. I had the Al Pastor and Asada. The taco had one corn tortilla which be two. The rice and beans were good. And I saw a plate of Mole Enchiladas which I would like to try as. Well as a couple other dishes. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more dishes. I have to remember next time to as for hot sauce. Do t forget to try their horchata which is made fresh according to the lady who helped me. The Ube Horchata was so so good. I seriously need to bring a few friends so we can buy a few dishes and try everything!

Stopped in for a late lunch and was absolutely blown away. This place is a gem! Let's start with the star of the show: the quesadillas. They were truly out of this world! The tortilla was perfectly grilled to a golden crisp, and the inside was a glorious, melted blend of cheese and... I'm not even sure what else, but it was magical. Seriously, some of the best I've ever had. We also tried the fish tacos, and they did not disappoint. The fish was flaky and seasoned beautifully, topped with a crisp slaw and a delicious creamy sauce. A total win. You can't come to a place like this without getting the guacamole, and wow, was it fresh! You could tell it was made very recently--creamy, chunky, with just the right amount of lime and cilantro. We demolished the entire bowl with the warm, salty chips. And can we talk about the view? We snagged a table at the window and it was stunning. It completely made the experience. Great food, amazing vibes, and a gorgeous setting. I will 100% be back to work my way through the rest of the menu. Highly recommend

Ummmmmmmm, me LOVES me a good burrito and Clau and Chui's Cocina in Hawaii Kai surely delivered yesterday! My friend wanted to take me here for a meal, as she knows that I LOVE my Mexican grindages! Known for their Tortas (unfortunately I didn't edjumacate myself before coming here, as I didn't know what a torta was), I totally missed out on da boat as I could have had an opportunity to try something new. (Insert SAD Panda face). What is a torta? It's basically a Mexican sandwich. You had a choice of meat for your sandwich - Milanesa chicken, beef, pastor, carnitas, chorizo, suadero, chicken. After choosing your meat, the sandwich came with lettuce, tomatoes, onions & avocado, and the bread looked like some sorta "flat bread" thingy? As for my burrito, I must say they packed it, and didn't use too much filler. A good quality burrito, only wished they provided more options as far as hot sauce goes. For a appetizer, my friend & I shared a plate of Cheese Fries with chicken. The cheese fries came with guacamole, sour cream, & salsa. Of the 3 dishes we got, I would say the Cheese Fries was the weakest dish. Although the toppings sounded good, I must say the chicken was a little dried out on the fries. The fries were excellently done, if I had some ketchup, I would have been good to go! Lol! Overall, still a nice find in Hawaii Kai, as I rather hit up this place in Koko Marina, vs. going to the local Taco Bell in the same complex. Lol!

First, being Hawaii, decent means not using pasta sauce to replace pico, not using shredded processed cheese, and not using refried beans from a can. Don't think of comparing this to that "authentic ethnic" spot in LA or the over border drunken stint in TJ. All the requisites from tortas, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, sopas including pozole and menudo, on offer. Complimentary C&S, just OK. Kinda soggy chips and the watery salsa doesn't much depth despite being fire roasted and not much spice heat. No complaints on the basic rice and refried beans that accompanied the large, stuffed trio of chicken empanadas (usually comes with two, add an additional for $5). Flavorful enough but not that complex mole. They are finished off with some sour cream, raw onions and crumbled cotija. Solid. Fast, friendly service with servers who seem to know their regulars well. Fair pricing with almost everything sub $30. It is what it is. Not bad for Hawaii and works to scratch the Mexican itch.

Mostly due to their location in the middle of the street with a handful of street parking locations shared with multiple other businesses down the lane. It took us 3 rounds of driving before we ended up deciding it was better to drop me off to order and pick up the food and have my man drive around into another larger parking lot to wait the 15-ish minutes it would take for our food to be ready. The owners were so nice. Answering all of my insistent questions, smiling when I ended up ordering something different from what they recommended on the menu (my bad - it's a question I ask all businesses even though I usually decide what I want beforehand LOL). They asked if I needed a bag, if I needed utensils and napkins, and even checked in on me while they made the food! Awesome service and I'm sure it would be the same if we decided to eat in. I liked the atmosphere. It was small but homely, clean, and there were a few small fish tanks in the corner! 15-ish minutes later, food packed up - I jumped back in the car and we drove down to South Shore Market in Ward to eat at the tables and take a glance if Ocean Taste's line was... long (it was). And let me tell you... the food? Delicious. The amount of food? Good for the price! And overall pretty darn great experience. I wasn't the biggest fan of the spicy pork (not my preference). But my fiancé liked it and his only comment was that it was a bit greasy for his liking. Reminded him he was in-fact eating spicy pork which is normally served on his plate lunch in a piece of tinfoil so the oil doesn't get everywhere! The carne asada was super delish along with the gochujang hot sauce cups we found at the bottom of the bag. I'd get K-Mex HI again if I was in the area but I'd love to see them in another location where I can more easily park!
