Living in ATL I am hyper critical when it comes to taxis and car services. I spend a fair amount of…read moretime and wads of moolah having people drive me around when traveling with work and pleasure. The majority of those times are often spent directing our local Atlanta cabbies from point A to B. I recently was picked up at my home in Kirkwood (conveniently located just off College Ave) and asked to be taken to the Star Bar. The driver had no idea where that was. I then asked for Little 5 Points. He again had no clue where L5P was located. I went on to ask where did he know how to get to and he replied, "the airport and Lawrenceville". Ugh. I sighed and leaned over the back seat and grabbed his idle GPS system typed in the words STAR BAR in the search bar and selected "GO". Five minutes later I paid the guy $7.50 for doing his job.
You can only imagine my elation when wondering around a foreign train station wide eyed and lost when a cab driver asked me in clear English if I would like a ride and where was I going. He went on to welcome me to Cologne and asked if I would like him to turn on the A/C. I gave him vague handwritten directions of the place I was meeting some friends and he knew where my friends were.
The cab was one of many of a fleet of Mercedes Benz sedans Taxi-Ruf uses and appeared to have recently rolled off the factory floor.
What made my head explode was when he gave me the total I asked did he accept credit cards and he replied, "Absolutely". I didn't get the typical defeated shoulder slump, angry gestures of how much the cab company charges them to accept cards, or the lie of the machine doesn't work. Thank you thank you thank you. It's the small things in life.
