Piedmont Mountainside - Ellijay Emergency Room

Piedmont Mountainside - Ellijay Emergency Room

We have billions of tax payer money flowing through our hospitals each year. We have thousands of…read moreindividuals paying into these hospitals. Yet we have hospitals like Piedmont in ellijay.where people are sitting in a chair for hours at a time. It doesn't matter how sick or how bad you are hurting you will have to wait hours in a waiting room with absolutely no help until they have room for you. I wonder if the CEO of the hospital gets the same treatment as the helpless masses that flock there for help. And you might get it or you might not. If you want quality health care you will have to get out of Ellijay. The urgent care by waffle House is a cesspool. We need some leadership around here so inocent people won't have to suffer so long. If piedmont can't handle the job it's time to bring in someone who can. If you're in need of emergency help get out of ellijay. Piedmont has become a free clinic in a third world country. It's time we realize that we don't work for these hospitals, they work for us. If you don't have room for me then let's do an audit and see where all this money is going. It's time to take your health back gilmer county.

I brought my 4 year old daughter to Piedmont Mountainside ER, in Elijay, GA the beginning of April…read morebecause she had a splinter deep in her big toe. We had just moved to Elijay about 3 weeks prior, and this was the closest ER to us. Upon arrival, there was no one there and we were quickly escorted inside to a room. When the doctor arrived, I immediately felt odd in his presence. He just seemed very... non-chalant. Short. He asked basic questions and as he was walking back to his computer he asked if she was up to date on her vaccines and if she has had her Tetanus shot. I informed him that we stopped all vaccinations. (Note, she has had her Tetanus shot, though..) but he wouldn't know that because he let out a sigh like the big bad wolf himself and said, in a very judgmental way, "you do realize the risk you are taking, right?" I felt his disgust and informed him I knew exactly what I was doing. When he returned, he gave a BASIC rundown of the procedure. Just stating he would inject a shot in her foot which would be the worst part and then he would remove it. Simple. There were NO INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN outside of this. Note, there were two other nurses present. One was an older male nurse (he was lovely), and a female nurse. She nor the doctor explained ANYTHING. She brought a blanket and began wrapping her. Dad and I are just "oh ? uh... ok this is what we're doing..." and with no instructions... starts grabbing her toe to begin. He didn't say anything... AT ALL. So he just starts numbing her!!!! No warning just blanket and bam! My Mommy heart begins to break so Dad is consoling her as I'm watching what he is doing. Where this goes WRONG is IMMEDIATELY and I mean... IMMEDIATELY after two shots of Lidocaine... he starts digging under her toenail. HE. DID. NOT. WAIT. My daughter let out the ungodliest scream I have EVER heard in my life. She felt every bit of that pain. Dad vocalized his concern with the doctor, (doctor says nothing), and the female nurse says, "it doesn't take long to kick in".... and it takes him longer to pull it out than to numb her. She was in excruciating pain. After it's over, the doctor is again, just nonchalant, says a few words about an antibiotic and leaves. This man traumatized my daughter and us. I don't know if he just sucks, or this was pure discrimination, but I want EVERY parent to know his name before they EVER take their child to this ER. I will post this review everywhere I can, as I've already filed a grievance with his supervisor. Now the male nurse, I believe his name was Mark, was so sweet and caring after the procedure when giving her a bandaid and in my heart, I know he knew what had just happened. It was the only empathy anyone had there. I questioned myself for a couple of days after this visit because I'm not educated on medical things.. but I knew that numbing medication had no way of working that fast. To get reassurance, I asked when I called the ER a couple of days ago and was told the same thing. At least 5 minutes. I'm disgusted. And he needs to be held accountable. I'm hoping there will be justice brought. This is for awareness. This is not like me to do but as a Mother, I would never want this doctor in another child's care. I do not remember his name, but this paper work says, "signed by, "Frederick Burton, MD"
