I feel obligated to issue Warnings to STAY AWAY from the Clairmont Shell Station at 2606 Clairmont Dr (92117) especially if you are a woman. I would have to say THE WORST experience I have ever had at a gas station, and I'm not young so we're talking-- a LOT). Likewise, the result of my mistreatment is that I will NEVER return to this gas station--would have to be nuts!Little did I know how expensive this stop would be, not only financially per cash demanded, but also emotionally. In the short time I was there I was treated like a criminal and threatened by the clerk and staff,, but before I get to that: First, I was solicited for gas money by a guy with a gas can who didn't want to take no for an answer once he saw my credit card, and then I was sexually harassed by a customer when I went into the store. All of this must have thrown me a little off my game, which may explain why I started to drive away with the hose still in my tank. .I Immediately realized it and stopped. OK, my mistake, embarrassing, I stopped to assess the damage and report it--a cleanly disconnected hose. But before I could, a mechanic standing outside ordered me not to leave in a threatening tone. What? (I had already stopped and gotten out, clearly wasn't leaving), then the rude clerk "Elvis" came running out of the store and immediately descended on me with a barrage of commands,and rudely ordering me inside, along with threatening to call the police on me if I didn't immediately meet all of his demands, which included handing over $80. IN CASH ONLY to him immediately.This was all bewildering to me as this "hose oversight" had only happened to me once before in my life--years ago, and that gas station didn't care, saying that no damage was done and reconnecting the undamaged hose was a 5-minute fix at most, which is still true. So that was also the extent of my crime in this case. a 5 minute fix, nothing broken, even "Elvis" admitted as much. After I gave Elvis my license plate number, I said I needed a minute to verify on my phone the claims he was making, to which he said he was calling the police. (I have tremendous coverage of rental cars, etc. with my Gold American Express card, so for one thing I wanted to check and see if they would cover this.) Nope, no phone calls allowed, cash now or the police was the ultimatum Elvis issued.. One can't help but wonder if this is a scam by this station, Do the mechanics there also charge $80 per 5 minutes of labor in auto and smog work?-- as in the 5 min.labor on hose reconnection? On top of it I was videotaped in the store by a customer-- or more likely an employee in plain clothes---not sure---who very rudely and personally insulted me when I asked him why he was doing that, ALL Totally unnecessary. Thank God my adult daughter was with me, it would have been worse being alone in that situation. Also, she had the cash to pay Elvis's ransom, which I did not have on me, and she also issued a rejoinder to the videotaping rude guy. I didn't even have the presence of mind to do that, I literally felt besieged and threatened by this gas station gang headed by Elvis---for what?. A 5 min fix? And this was in the daytime. God help the woman who goes there alone at night Never again! I guess all of that was worth losing a customer for life. They clearly don't care about customers or want my business anyway. Owner was very rude. Initially he tried to help with the smog, but once he learned i tried my mechanics method and that I tried a few fixes myself, he was very rude and abrupt on how to continue my smog approval. He said and I quote "if you have better advise from a friend, then take your business elsewhere" . I will be filling up my gas and checking my smog elsewhere. read more

This place is HORRIBLE!!! These guys are crooks. Filled up my tank with their SUPER EXPENSIVE gas and got the most expensive cash wash they offered. Took my car thru the wash only for it to leave pink residue all over my white car. Went inside to complained and got nowhere. No refund, no free car wash to fix their mistake. Nothing. I always love to come to this Shell station in the summertime. I used to live right up the hill from here, these days I stop over whenever I'm close by. These guys have the "COLDEST" beer & sodas in town! Add the fact that John, the gentleman who works behind the counter is so nice and friendly, what more can one ask for in an mini-mart? SMOG CHECKS: the guy that does the smog checks is SO helpful. He goes above and beyond and as a bonus is just such a nice guy. Highly recommend. CAR WASH (HAND WASH): I had seen the sign for $7 car washes for a while and decided to give them a try after a more pricey place didn't deliver. I had my car painted last year and it was recommended not to go thru the auto car washes (anything with hard brushes). So, I gave these guys a try. They do a GREAT JOB. I had them vacuum the inside of my car for a few extra bucks ($3 I think, note my car is tiny). Anyway, they were so thorough, they found a tool in my car. None of the others that have washed or detailed or painted my car found this over the past year. I'm no tool girl, so I have no idea what it's called, it's one of those tools that does a ton of different things, again I don't know. read more

I just read this review and want to mention that I've never bought gas there--I go to Costco (and remember that gas stations right adjacent to major freeways are always the most expensive (same for those near airports). SO--for past 7 years or so my mom and I have had each of our cars smog checked there. Same guy, very friendly and accommodating. It's close to our home, lovely since I can't bear going into P.B. anymore! Finally, I've never had to wait. I'm about to bring another car in. I needed gas today. There were no cars at this station (first clue) When I used my debit card the pump told me to see the cashier. So I walked in to an empty Food Mart and waited for the attendant to come out from the back . Since I was now in the store, I asked for the restroom. I was then directed to go outside, around the corner to an outhouse! Thank goodness it was daylight and one hand towel left! This place needs help and their prices are high!! read more

2.5 stars I cannot justify giving this place 3 stars even though I fill up here sometimes. The gas here is always more expensive then anywhere else in San Diego. The reason it gets two stars is the location. It is right by the highway and very convenient. The store inside is small but adequate. read more

I would probably give this place one more star for the huge convenience of the location (right off I-5 at Clairemont Drive) but this place is always expensive so that's why it doesn't get anymore.When I stop here it's probably to buy a pack of smokes and I'll get the change from the $20 in gas, but rarely do I ever fill my tank here. read more

Caution: FALSE ADVERTISING. I came to this station and pre-paid for gas at the advertised price of $2.99. The clerk took my cash but shortchhanged me 1 gallon when I actually pumped the gas. He then tried to demand I pay more for the extra gallon. He had jacked up the prices on the pumps for the evening. I strongly recommend avoiding this station. read more

This is an ok gas station. Nothing that stands out. Been here 2x before. They are small and don't have many options in the store. They have a mechanic garage part for the gas station but have never used them before. Gas is average for SD and it's not a bad location being at the bottom of the Clairemont hill. read more

If you asked me a few weeks ago what I thought of this place I would've said, "the gas is crazy expensive, but the car wash deal is awesome!" Ask me now and I'll say... man, no reason to go there. Gas is still expensive as ever, and to make it worse, the super cheap $3 car washes that used to almost make this place worth stopping and filling up some gas, is now $6!!! yea... that's 100% more expensive than it was just a few weeks ago. I realize $3 is cheap, and yea, it probably barely covers the cost of water, but really, the point is to bring in customers. Raising your prices this significantly and hoping your long time customers won't notice is not the way to do it! I went down to this gas station today, filled up about 20 bucks in gas and figured, what the heck for 3 bucks I might as well get a car wash. I drive over to the car wash and look at my receipt, and thought "what the heck!?". Generally cheapo broken down car washes like this one are $4, maybe $5 max. $6 is rare and usually they'll at least take 10 cents off your gas if you get the car wash with it. The only reason I give them an extra star is because i talked to the employee in the store and he was actually pretty nice about it, but said to come back tomorrow when the manager was around and he could probably refund me. He agreed $6 was too much, but there was nothing he could do. Instead of coming back and wasting my time and just figured it's only 3 bucks and got my car wash. Like always, its a relatively crappy wash but did the job. For 6 bucks, I'm not coming back, but I'm not going to bitch about it either. Went here cuz I saw the price for regular was $2.89 which was good enough. Went in gave em $20. go out to pump my gas. Turns out the price for regular was $3.09. Never experienced this before in almost 20 years driving. This was at 8pm so they had a full day of advertising the wrong price. Never would have gone there if I knew it was $3.09 for regular. Didn't have time to deal with it tho so just leave a yelp review. Not ever going here again. If u go there make sure u are getting charged correctly. read more
