The only time I listen to the radio is when I'm working at a food co-op in town. In fact I just realised that I don't even have a radio at home, which is kind of weird. Oh, digital age. Anyhoo, if I am tuning in, I usually check out CKDU first. As Adam mentioned, it's volunteer run and open to the community. A lot of shows are the result of people exploring their ideas about how to make a radio show, which can make for very interesting programming. Sometimes that is good, and other times it is a bit scary. However it ends up I am very pleased to have an independent, accessible radio station in town.
On another note, I attended CKDU's annual Hoser Fest at Gus's last fall and witnessed an incredible display of Canadiana that warmed my heart. A great night was had watching maple syrup chugging competitions and local bands doing covers of Canadian rock icons. Watch for it when it comes around next year. read more
