It's a nice city to go for a day trip (particularly their larger parks) if you are based anywhere between Shreveport and Natchez.

I am posting this review to document my experience interacting with the Vicksburg Police…read moreDepartment. Over the past year, I have attempted to obtain police reports, public records, and information related to documented incidents through formal public records requests and written correspondence. In multiple instances, I was told that no records were available or that records could not be provided, even when other documentation indicated that reports or documentation should exist. As a result, I was forced to file formal public records complaints and escalate the matter to state agencies in order to attempt to obtain records and responses. This review is not written out of anger, but to document the difficulty I experienced when trying to obtain basic public records and information through the proper legal channels. Access to public records and clear communication are important for public trust, and when those processes break down, it creates serious concerns for citizens trying to resolve issues properly. I hope the department will work toward improving transparency, records management, and communication with the public so that situations like this can be resolved through normal procedures. This review is being posted for public awareness and documentation of my experience.

First, I hope that more people will begin to post their reviews of the VPD here on Yelp. I've seen…read moreother comments on the VPD Facebook page. On May 16, 2019, my parents were heading westbound on I-20 in Vicksburg when they were hit and injured by a wrong-way driver. A few weeks later, my mother died from her severe injuries due to the collision. Based on my experiences with the VPD, its competence should be questioned in many areas. First, the ACCIDENT REPORT WAS WRONG, and it took many calls and emails to get it revised by October 2019. This was nearly 5 MONTHS after the incident. Next, a number of officers displayed LITTLE TO NO COMMUNICATION & PEOPLE SKILLS. They often didn't return phone calls or emails, and I was treated rudely by Chief Moore on the phone. He never offered any condolences but acted as if I were taking up his precious time. How can anyone like that be expected to lead and represent VPD in public? I guess that's why they don't return calls...because they wouldn't know the proper thing to say??!! Finally, the VPD REFUSED TO ISSUE A TRAFFIC CITATION to the wrong-way driver because they felt it wouldn't do any good. There is no question about who caused the incident since it was recorded on video--but because a grand jury decided it was all an accident, the police thought they were done. However, at ANY time, VPD could and should have issued a citation requiring the driver eventually to appear in municipal court. But no...THEY COULDN'T BE BOTHERED TO DO SOMETHING THIS BASIC. A PERSON (who probably should not have been driving) TOOK A LIFE AND DIDN'T EVEN GET SO MUCH AS A TRAFFIC TICKET?!! That's outrageous and pathetic! Whom does the VPD "serve and protect"? Only themselves. They should be ashamed, and I must ask WHY FUND THIS POLICE DEPARTMENT?

I have never been in trouble with the law my entire life. Not even so much as a speeding ticket…read more Since I have moved to Vicksburg and have stood up for my rights as a FREE AMERICAN CITIZEN governed by the United States Constitution, I have been constantly been harassed by VPD so much so that I have been arrested 2 separate occasions and released within an hour or two when they figure out that they can't charge me for anything because I never broke the laws or did what they say I did. I mind my own business and keep to myself but they go out of their way to let me know they're watching me. I have been followed by VPD on multiple occasions (as recent as yesterday), I have been confronted by them and yet they still don't know their own laws. It's sad when a citizen can spend 20 minutes on the Vicksburg and Mississippi state websites and become more knowledgeable about the laws of this town and state than the ones who are supposedly sworn to uphold such laws. After my second initial confrontation between VPD and myself, I started recording each encounter. I even recorded my arrests. I also pulled the 911 tapes and in car recordings of each incident by public records request. Arm yourself with knowledge. More citizens need to stand up and let this city know that we are tired of of VPD officers who think they can keep us cowering in a corner wondering when they might be there to harass us again. File a formal complaint with the VPD. Let Armstrong know that you aren't afraid to stand up for your rights as an American citizen and a citizen of Vicksburg......
