I see lots of people working hard at this hotel. The front desk is very accommodating and friendly. The area around this hotel is quiet (although there is a bar across the street that can get noisy if you have to sleep with the window open) and has plenty of great restaurants within walking distance. CON: The satellite TV is not very reliable. Some nights you cannot use the TV at all.

We were upgraded to the Sisi Suite and had breakfast included with our stay that was to die for. Fresh, clean, a great variety and a wonderful wait staff. We tried room service, dinner in their cafe and dinner at their Opus restaurant, and every meal was stellar - including some evening desserts and coffee. The room was comfortable, with great high ceilings and windows, a heavenly bed and great amenities/water pressure in the bathroom. The wait staff kept our room full of water and other goodies. It is perfectly located to public transportation, quick walks to attractions and local parks, and the building itself is beautiful.

The bar is in a large rectangular (~35 feet x 45 feet) room with a 25 foot high ceiling. The ceilings are mirrored. The upper third of the high walls are decorated like a section of library books. There are at least a dozen seating groups of 2, 4 and 7 plus 6 seats at the bar. The bar seats are nicely padded and covered in leather. The floor seated is very comfortable, oversized, cloth fabric. The background music is pleasing and not too loud. The bar staff is attentive and helpful. They also brought out some nice bar snacks. Drinks here are priced as you would think for a hotel of this caliber. We enjoyed our time at the Imperial Bar.

I picked this location because I was departing from the Westbahnhof train station the following morning and I wanted to only be a short walk away. Plus, I got a killer deal via hipmunk dot com. Location: It's not in the city center but it's a 5 minute walk to the Westbahnhof station (see map). 5 stops on the U3 (underground) to Stephansplatz which is the main touristy area with the unfinished church. 5 stops on the U6/U4 to Kettenbrückengasse which is where you'll find the Naschmarkt which is A MUST. It's a spectacular open air market full of killer food/treats! 7 stops to catch the CAT which takes you to the Vienna International Airport Food: There's a bar downstairs that stops serving food after a certain hour but you can always order room service. Also! There are food stands directly across the street (and to your right) that never close, that's right twenty fo' seven! They're not phenomenal but they do the trick if the bars/restaurants nearby have already closed. Room: Clean, spacious, large tub. The only thing strange about this room is that their beds are two twin beds pushed together. It reminded me of something from the set of I Love Lucy but the beds were comfortable and the curtains did a good job of keeping the light out in the morning so I can't complain. Amenities: If you plan on going to the spa (which I definitely did!), you can call the front desk and they'll bring you a robe. The spa is on a specific floor and you need to use your keycard to unlock the door (it took me way too long to figure that out). The spa has a large jacuzzi, sauna, work out area, a massage therapist you can book, and some weird vibrating machine that you can sit on.. This idea of machine coffee would have previously sounded like some weird gas station coffee from the US but alas we are in another place and it was really tasty and we enjoyed. They had all sorts of meats, cheeses, breads, fruit. Oh it was great. Also little pate' and nutella and jams. We loved. Really the quality of the food was good and the employees attentive. The room was a good size - not huge but plenty of room. Like the bed took up most of the room and only one person could walk past the end of the bed at once - but then there was more room past the bed. No big deal. There did seem to be plenty of room to put our stuff around. We had two giant suitcases that fit underneath a counter just fine. The view was amazing. In Vienna it was warm. We were warm. We were always - warm. WARM! Outside it was HOT. Everything about Vienna and the beverages were warm to us. The room while not WARM was not cool. The windows would not open. So we struggled to cool off back at the room. I do not blame the hotel. I am from Ohio, USA. It is very seldom hot here and we always have a breeze and don't even regularly see sunshine. Here people did not seem to be overly warm - just us. But just a note that we were warm. We were on an upper floor so this could have contributed to it. And it was June and unseasonably warm there at the time. The hotel staff were all very professional and nice! And the lobby was comfortable and oh gosh we just really loved it and it was convenient to the subway or whatever they call it. It was close to Westbahnhof station and of course the trains are excellent. It was also close to a pedestrian area - Mariahilfer street which had many shops and restaurants. We just loved! It is so trendy to be negative. I didn't travel dang halfway around the world just to pick stuff apart and have a bad time.

Very disappointed…read more The tub is very slick but when I asked for a safety mat or rubber bath mat they said they didn't have one. The step down from the tub to the floor is quite steep but there is no safety handle or anything to hold on to. Seems very dangerous. There are no ice machines, even though there are places for them. You have to go all the way down to the bar to get ice. No electric outlets on one side of the bed. There are those awful card slots by the door for the electricity so when you come back to your room, the AC has been off for hours and it's hot and it takes hours to cool down again. While I was there, several youth sports teams checked in. Good for business. Full bookings. But no additional provisions were made for the breakfast buffet. The young people were like swarms of locust. Of course. Long lines and empty food containers. Really ridiculous. Generally not what I was expecting from Marriott.

We froze every night! When we complained, we were only then were we told about the heating problem, and they then told us they would bring a portable heater, which never arrived. The hotel is WAY WAY overdue for a remodel. Our room contained half a love seat for a chair, and a chipped glass end table. The tiles in the bathroom has mismatched replaced tiles and the caulking was slathered around the perimeter of the shower. Hot water fluctuated greatly in the shower, and the toilet paper was so cheap and rough, that the cafes were a better option for using the restroom. The paint in the room had splotchy mismatched patches along with scuff marks everywhere. The fire alarm went off for some reason, and everyone was evacuated from the hotel into the pouring rain, until the fire department came and cleared the false alarm. No explanation or apology. The TV station had the worst selection of channels out of all the hotels we stayed at during this trip. We stayed at five different hotels in three different countries on this trip, and this hotel was far and away the worst of the bunch. So, if you don't mind a freezing outdated room, good luck to you. My advice is that is that if you booked this hotel, cancel it. If you are considering it, there are plenty of other places nearby that have heat, and up to date furnishings.
