Nothing was said a band would be playing during the booking process, sounding it was in the hotel room you booked in, until we checked in. When the front desk told us their was a band tonight, We NEVER thought it would be as loud as it is. We have been joking that it's like staying at a frat house. That's the only reason for the low rating. If we would have known it would be this intrusive we would not have booked here. Makes having to get a 5 am start difficult when it's now 11pm and they are going strong.

It's a cozy, welcoming old pub with all the great ales, bitters and lagers you could ask for. They have a solid spirits menu too, and I tried my first ever pour of Laphroaig here which instantly became one of my favorite scotch whiskys ever. The food was really good-- I had the brisket burger with chips/fries, purple slaw, and ordered a side of the mac and cheese to split with my spouse who ordered a chicken ciabatta roll. The burger was delicious, perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside with a real smoky flavor that permeated every bite. Cheese, toppings all fresh and the bun warm and tasty. The mac and cheese was served in a ceramic bowl and appeared to have spent some time on the broiler, crisping a very thick layer of cheese on top-- the gooiest mac'n'cheese I've had. My wife enjoyed the ciabatta roll as well but the mac stole the show for her.

The focus is on participation and enjoyment and the staff are enthusiastic and knowledgable. It's a meeting place for artist, writers, film-makers, photographers and musicians. I can see I'll be spending lots of time here! The cafe is open Tues-Sun 10am - 3pm and there is a bar for evening performances. Check out the Live (music) Lunches on Sundays too.
