They celebrate a Turkish general of the Ottoman Empire. After the defeat against the Austrian army, he passed through the Alps and arrived, in 1529, wounded and exhausted in Moena. Local mountain people helped him and saved his life. He lived here
for the rest of his life. Those who helped him started to be called Turkish and this denomination survives till today.
