If I could give this restaurant a negative amount of stars I would. First of all, we had to ask for…read morethe menu. Once we finally got the server's attention, we ordered our food and drinks. The drinks were served to us IN OUR HANDS when the table was right in front of us. The water was served in a big bottle that was put on the table, with the expectation that we ourselves should pour it in our glasses. Throughout the meal, we weren't checked on ONE SINGLE TIME! No salt, no pepper, no more wine, no more water. After we finished eating, we sat for about 45 mins waiting for someone to clean our table and bring us more drinks. I had to finally speak with the manager ( I walked up to him myself since no one was even paying attention to us although we were desperately trying to get eye contact with the servers) and expressed my deep frustration. He apologized and calmed me down. I ordered more wine from him right then and there (cause God knew when I would be able to order again). The wine came shortly after... again served in my hand. We asked for the check. After about 15 mins I realized that the server forgot about our request and had to ask for the check from another server. NOTHING was reduced from our tab. Not even the last two glasses of wine I ordered from the manager. This place was an absolute nightmare. A waste of my time and money. I know swedes usually don't check Yelp but if I can save one person from going there, my job here is done.

Not so much: Seats along wall uncomfortable. My back lasts about 20 minutes at most. In pain now as I type this, in fact. So don't sit there if you want to hang out. Most tables are tiny. So, for me at least, nice to stop in for a quick coffee and bite. Not to relax or read or anything.

I don't know what we did before Simon's opened a little over a year ago--it has fast become a…read morestaple in our small town's fika scene. With outstanding espresso and regular coffees as well as high-quality baked goods, Simon's is usually my top choice for a stolen hour of reading, latte in hand, for fika with a friend I haven't seen in a while, or simply just for people watching on Storgatan. Their candle-lit tables and animal-skin-clad benches make it a cozy spot even when it is packed with people. And Simon's makes the best coffee in town. Simon's roasts their own coffees (weekly, I think!) in their roaster that's in the back of the cafe--and the freshness and knowledge of coffee shows. Both the regular "bryggkaffe" (filtered coffee) and the espresso are excellent, and there is usually a choice of blends for the bryggkaffe. Simon's also sells bags of their beans--the "Nordic Morning" blend is my favorite for everyday morning coffee, while some of the special edition beans (like the Ethiopian or Kenyan varietals he has had in the past) have been amazing. This year's Julkaffe (a Colombian bean) was perhaps my favorite coffee *ever.* The bullar (sweet buns), breads, and pastries are all excellent. Some of my favorites include the kardemummabulle, the mazarin, the apple cake, and the lemon meringue tartlet. The caprese (tomato-mozzarella) macka (sandwich) is crazy good--I have barely tried any other lunch items because I am addicted to that one! But my husband has had several of the salads and larger sandwiches on their menu and has loved them all. Additionally, Simon's serves kombucha, smoothies and freshly pressed juices, and healthier breakfasts like chia pudding. If you can be there early for lunch (say, ca 11.30) on a Wednesday, don't miss the special sourdough, thin-crust pizzas! Pizzaonsdagar are a special treat at Simon's and only last till all the dough has run out--so going early is a must. Simon's is tied with Babette's for my favorite cafe in Linköping, even though they are quite different in terms of emphasis and atmosphere. Babette's is much larger and has a more shabby chic feeling; Simon's is more Scandi-industrial-modern. Both are cozy and both make outstanding bullar (sweet buns), breads, and pastries. You can't go wrong with either, so have two fikas in Linköping and try them both!

The photos I provide with this review cannot do the property justice. The fact that you can walk around all the art and antiques with no one supervising your visit, is unbelievable! Our room was in the annex, so it was more modern and not filled with antiquities. The room was quite comfortable and did have a flat screen TV. It was also extremely quiet. We dined in the castle, but before we were seated we had the opportunity to meet a gentleman named Ralph. Ralph is 85 years old and was born at the property! We exchanged stories and shared drinks for a while before he showed us to the dining room, what a treat! Dinner? AMAZING! Best dinner we would experience at a lodging in our month in Scandinavia. We started with a fish tartare, toasted brioche, asparagus and greens called rocket. Next was beef, roasted perfectly, with a fantastic rich brown gravy, diced onions and veggies and a wedge of a potato rosti. Last was a sorbet, meringue and a fudge like pastry. We had the wine pairing which proved to have EXTREMELY GENEROUS pours, great selections and was the most reasonable we would see on our entire holiday! Tres magnifique! Breakfast was equally impressive. If you have the opportunity to stay at Vastana Slott, you will not be disappointed! Humbly submitted, Moi
