This way, I could at least understand the movie and have some fun on my free time. At first, I went there to see specific movies. But then I began attending the Sneak-Previews a.k.a. surprise movies. Most of the time the surprise movie is a good one and not always a blockbuster movie, which in my opinion is good. The best thing about the sneak-previews is that many times I get to see and enjoy a movie that I would have never seen, if I had the choice. For me the sneak-previews had a strange side effect: I got hooked :D (in a good way). I find it very exciting not knowing the movie that is going to be shown. This is awesome: You buy the ticket, grab some snacks, take your seat, and just go with the flow and enjoy the ride! I would like to thank my Austrian friend who presented me this place.

Yeah, if you like the big comfortable seats and Hollywood films on a huge screen, you should go to one of the big commercial cinemas. But if you're into film as an art, that's a good place. You often get to see films, which don't run in a commercial one as well as old films. You can take buy a drink in Schwarzer Hahn and take it in.

Meaning you don't get rewarded, but rather taxed, for reducing their personnel costs. This is just crazy! 2) You get to choose your seat, which can be a negative or positive point depending on how you see it. To be fair, Cinemaxx is not the only cinema still doing this here; but nevertheless: please stop, this is a cinema, not a theatre! In any case, probably in great part because of the time needed to select a seat, the ticket queues are longer...much longer. 3) Only one to two films in original version per week. Seriously? Now I know everybody here doesn't speak perfect English. But there is a wonderful invention Cinemaxx could use: subtitles. In most European countries and cities, films (except children movies) are mostly shown in OV with local subtitles. This satisfies both cinema fans and people who want to improve their language skills. I am guessing Cinemaxx wants to save a few euros: buying the subtitle track would probably cost them, so they do one showing in English per week, without subtitles, for the obviously limited number of viewers who don't need any. 4) They only accept German payment cards ("EC"), and of course cash. If you have a foreign debit or credit card, forget it. The person at the cash desk was very rude when I showed my Visa Debit card: she said "no credit card", I answered "Look, it's written on it: debit", she answered "no credit card"... I gave up and left the place (I did speak German by the way). I haven't used cash for 20 years and I wasn't going to start for them. If you really want to pay a premium for ordering online, if you do find a film you want to see, then yes, the rooms and screen equipments are ok. But nothing you haven't seen anywhere else. A Cinema stuck in the 1950's, not for me thank you. Regensburg is a small town, but not that small: it deserves a better place.

As an Auslaenderin, I can't say that I enjoyed the 30 minutes of ads and such prior to the start of…read morethe film, but I'd imagine that it's standard fare as no one seemed too put out by them. Our seatmates chatted their way throughout, so I guess that's how that's handled! We loaded up on Beck's (they only seemed to carry 'big brand' brews) and rather un-warm sweet popcorn and hung out at a table in the fairly cool-looking bar/concession area before being allowed to enter the theater close to start time. The theater itself is lovely-looking with red, plush seats, and, interestingly, beverage carriers not at the end of seat arms, but rather a bit up off the ground in front of you. We sat and drank and looked toward the thick, deep-red curtain in front of us. I kept expecting an organist to pop up from the center of the stage and play us into the start of the show. If one is going to catch a (German language) flick in Munich, then one would do well to do so here. This place is a well-preserved gem from another era.
