The threading technique is just catching on in France and I think it's much better than waxing for facial hair. The women at Centre de Beauté Indienne are experts and the thead goes so fast you can hardly see it. Threading leaves no pimples or redness. It costs between 5 and 10 euros and you can go without appointment. They also do waxing for bikini lines and legs. And ... they have great facials. I've only done the basic one, which consists of 1 hour of massages, steaming, creams and masks and costs 29 euros, which I need hardly add is almost half the price of a standard facial at a "normal" French spa. You're "supposed" to have a facial every month, finances permitting, and Centre de Beauté Indienne makes it possible. Be prepared, of course, for the fact that going to the Centre de Beauté Indienne is not an "exclusive" experience, but "populaire," in the French sense, which means that you will have to tell them you want your mustache threaded in front of 20 other people and then you will be seated in one of the chairs right in front of the window and they will thead your mustache or chin or whatever in front of all passerby and people seating (or standing - sometimes it's very busy!). There is a TV blasting Bollywood videos in the corner. If you have a facial, you won't be lying alone swathed in plush white towels in a dimly lit room with cheesy rock sculptures and a cd of babbling brooks and bird noises. You will probably be led to a small room in the back of the main room, where you'll take off your shirt and bra in front of other people who are getting waxed. The women who work there will talk to each other in Hindi or another language. The lights go on and off and there is a steady hum from the crowded main room where people are chatting and waiting and the Bollywood music is throbbing. if you are not of Indian origin, you may be the only person not of Indian origin waiting in the waiting room and all the other women will stare. They seemed a bit confused by my presence in the beginning, but I persisted because even in Paris, with its huge immigrant population, even if there's a word for it in French, they don't really understand the concept of "brassage" (mixing -ie the fameux American melting pot) like they do in NYC where everyone and their mother gets threaded. I love the ambiance. I think it's lively and actually soothing. I like that Centre de Beauté Indienne is so successful and busy. The other day I brought a friend for a facial at 11 am before the crowds arrive and the six women who work there were decked out in absolutely gorgeous colorful saris with immaculate make-up waiting to start the day. It occurred to me that they must be doing pretty well. I love the neighboorhood, in the 10th near La Chapelle, full of Indians and African-French women in coton batik dresses and turbans. But, for those who prefer to be swathed in snow white towels in a dim room with fake rocks and a sea waves cd playing, then this is probably not for you.

I guess there's a bunch of other places too but with good ole yelp reviews, I felt most confident in coming here. I went for an épilation maillot integral, aka a Brazilian if you're American. I didn't have a french number nor phone service so I couldn't make an appointment so I came in during the beginning of my trip to make an appointment for the last day of my trip. They had a handful of open spots but both times I was there, there were at least 2-4 in and out customers do I figure they get their usuals. So, I come in for my appointment and just as Brazilian sugaring is in the US, it's quick! My lady was super sweet and despite my desperate attempts to speak only in french, I struggled and they were super sweet--everyone was able to communicate with my broken french/English mainly which was nice! The sugar was a bit hot and maybe more sticky vs tacky than I was used to but it worked out okay and my lady did a pretty good job. my sugaring, once done, only costed 27€ because I am lucky to be pretty hairless as is LOL. The sign on the front door may have said something about taking reservations only on Sunday (or so with my broken French), but I walked in anyways just to inquire. No one was in the small salon except for one woman who may have been the owner. I asked if she would be able to do a manicure since I was in dire of need of one, and to waste a little time while my boyfriend was running in the marathon that day. She immediately took me and did a wonderful job, making great conversation in English because she said her French wasn't too great (neither was mine, which worked out well!). She did a pretty good job on the manicure, though the color selection was a little lacking. Another coworker of hers walked in not too long after I got there, but the salon continued to stay empty. She tried talking me into some other services like a massage or facial, but I told her I didn't have too much time to spend there aside from the manicure. Though she did convince me to try threading, for which this other woman was excellent for. So after my nails were done and dry, I got into another chair and the owner reassured me that I would be okay and held my eyelid shut as the woman threaded away. I was worried about pain since I've never done this before, or even waxing. But it was surprisingly not very painful at all - and the whole thing took 5-10 minutes! I was quite impressed with the results since my brows never really had much shape in my hands and she didn't make them thin either, so they looked really nice. The manicure was 20 euros, and the threading only 7 euros. It's a rather inexpensive salon compared to what others could be in a relatively expensive city. I would at least recommend this salon if you are looking to shape your eyebrows, or for a quick cheap manicure. The ladies were very welcoming and helpful.

You're in and out in a snap, and usually there is no or very little wait. Just walk in - no appointments necessary. English and French and spoken here, but you can trust the girls with ur brows - they're pros. The threading is fast and efficient, and the girls do a thorough job. No complaints here. They also offer a number of other beauty services. This place is super conveniently located if you want to tackle all your hair removal needs in one go - there is a body minute (for waxing) located just a few shops down. Yea! For info, there are also a few other Stella institutes located in Paris (notably at Strasbourg Saint Denis and la chapelle), but of those, this one is my favorite (due to location and cleanliness). They used to have a loyalty card with the 11th service free, but last time I was given one, they changed 11th service free to 11th service with a 5% discount. She made me look and feel beautiful, and managed to understand my half-downloaded Pinterest board and general ideas right away and helped me decide what direction to take. She then made them look better than I could have ever even dreamed of. I'm so happy with the way the hair and makeup turned out, felt beautiful and confident on the day, and can now look back at pictures and feel the same way every time. I wanted to avoid an updo that looked too "wedding-y" and I felt like her experience on the editorial side of things really helped in that department - I showed her tons of pictures of Jennifer Lawrence on the red carpet and she knew exactly what to do and how to make it work with my hair. It also stayed put all night long through lots of dancing. I had read horror stories on Yelp of other hair and makeup artists in France being unreliable, but Trine was incredibly professional, on time, had reasonable travel fees even though I was bringing her out to the middle of nowhere, and when her flight was cancelled the day of my trial, she was promptly in touch and flexible so that we could schedule an alternate time. She was also very conscientious ahead of time. I sent her pictures of myself and the looks I was going for, and she responded to emails promptly and thoughtfully, even going so far as to notice that I had ombre highlights and think about how they would translate to an updo, so she was super prepared before we even got to the trial. On top of everything, she was a positive, calming, encouraging and sweet presence during the whole day - even/especially when we had a power outage crisis and it was much needed. She even used her phone to play music for us when none of us had service or wifi and kept everyone in good spirits. Everyone in the room getting ready commented on how amazing she was. She is an incredibly sweet and lovely person who also happens to be very good at her job (and as other reviewers have noted, speaks perfect English - important for communicating what you want to look like!). I cannot thank her enough and would sing her praises to any future brides.
