hubby and i finally stopped in to cielito lindo for dinner. we were both truly impressed with the customer service and quality of the meals we ate. i had a bowl of menudo - omg. it was the best. it didn't have hominy as i've been used to, but that was alright, because the taste and ingredients were fresh and delicioso! they gave me a plate with all the add-ins (onions, cilantro, oregano, etc.) and 3 fresh tortillas. it was such a large bowl, i had planned on eating half and taking half home...needless to say i slurped every last drop right there. and the gal asked me what happened to my plan on taking half home? i had to admit that it was SO good, i couldn't help myself. the salsa verde and red salsa were equally as delicious. hubby had two soft tacos with ground beef and rice/beans. the beans were the best he'd had (and i've tasted) in quite a while, and the rice was SO good - flavorful and cooked just right. his tacos were the best - fresh and perfectly seasoned beef with just the right amount of 'fixings'. read more

Authentic Mexican food at this hole-in-the-wall old gas station location. I've eaten the best of Mexican food and this place is a great local find. I love the basic bean and cheese burrito here (so good!) The chile verde plate or chile verde burrito is great, too! Or the chile rellenos (yum!!) Have loved all the tacos I've tried. I crave the food here. Don't be put off by the location. And sometimes they aren't the friendliest :-( But I'll keep coming back. The food is worth it! Forget about Taco Bell! My husband and I stumbled upon this little hole in the wall mexican store/restaurant. we were wanting a quick breakfast burrito without having to resort to Taco Bell . So finding this place was a little treat . the place definitely was authentic we had the Machaca burrito it was good but a tad bland and no salt and their red salsa was bland as without spice or salt ; but it's okay it still beat going to a Taco Bell ect.. I stopped in based on the positive Yelp reviews. I actually didn't expect to find any seating, but there are 4 small tables. Definitely not a fancy atmosphere...very much still a gas station ambiance, but since I was getting my food to go, who cares? I got a basic carnitas burrito with a small red salsa. Too much for me to eat and only $5.95, so a pretty good deal for 2 meals! It was really an excellent burrito. The meat was extremely tasty and tender, the salsa was a tiny bit hot, but exactly right. The 2 ladies working there were efficient, pleasant, and friendly. It's not the kind of place for a fancy dinner date, but I'm really looking forward to stopping in again. They have a pretty extensive menu....and birria, which I'll try sometime. I should have gotten the posole, but that will have to be next time. I love coming here anytime of day! Wether its for a chicken chimichanga or the shredded chicken super nachos! You might be fooled by the outside of the place because it does look like an old gas station! And once you're inside don't be confused by the small cooking area! If you are looking for taqueria style mexican food. This is your place. Before Cielito Lindo a.k.a. Texaco Mexico to the locals............good carne asada tacos were not easy to come by. The super burritos are also very good. A little pricey for taqueria food though but it's the only in town like it. read more

When I want a taco, this is where I go. The adobada pork here is really good. Everything is reasonably priced as well. HUGE burritos! I'm giving only 4 stars because there is consistency issue with the flavor depending on who is working that day. read more

The beans are bland, the rice was a bit crunchy and the red salsa is very thin, but the worst part is that they are deceptive when it comes to the pricing. For instance they have taco next to .49 and burrito next to .99 under writing that says sour cream and cheese extra. One would think that a gas station burrito at .99 or a taco at .49 would be reasonable. No that is the cost per addition to you burrito or taco. They also charge per serving for rice and beans and at $2.50 a serving per side it adds up quick. (If you order per container which serves 3 that is $7.50 and it doesn't even come with cheese.) They tout that they make everything fresh everyday but come on, I can make a whole pot of beans for $2.50 and mine taste better too. No if I am going to spend 30 bucks to eat out I am going to be served, get chips and salsa and eat on dinnerware. The chicken is good, and the enchiladas were perfect. The tamales are not very good. All and all in my experience the food is just okay (I am originally from Kern County so I have had my share of good Mexican food.) The pricing is probably reasonable for food by the beach but not for food that comes in Styrofoam from a gas station. The deceptive pricing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There are better options in town for good Mexican otherwise DIY and save yourself a lot of money in the long run. read more

Its Friday in Brookings and I think ok my wife is coming home for lunch Ill take her down to the closest Mexican spot from the house for a quick bite. If I knew the quick bite was going to be a single portioned bag of Costco chips thrown on a plate covered by some chicken and cheese then microwaved in front of me , we would have ate at the house!!! The toppings seemed fresh so whatever but when asking the lady behind the counter for some hot sauce she directed me to the front counter in line behind 5 other people. My food was as hot as it was going to be without hitting the microwave again so I asked, if I had to wait in line just for sauce? She said isn't it to go? I said no with a smile and she got me some hot sauce, I said thank you and heard nothing back, as nor did my wife when picking up the order , so I said , Thank you again to make sure she heard me and I turned , now with a disgusted look to head for the table. Now mad my wife says , should we box it o go ? I replied, no its fine lets eat and not come back. All of a sudden the lady comes around the kitchen corner and says, I told you ok, I reply what? She says when you said thank you I said ok, I told her that she said nothing and she all but called me a liar. I told her im not gonna argue and she went back to the kitchen talking about the situation very loudly with the boss which never even when paying acknowledged anything was wrong. Point , food was microwaved, oh well ! Worst display of customer service ive seen in years therefore will not return. Next time head up the road to panchos same price, better food , great service...... read more
