This was a must on our itinerary for our final day in Montreal. We did take a uber there but proudly walked back. This museum was massive with 5 floors of all different mediums of Art. It was an easy map to follow to show me what I must! See and others that I call a fast pass, no lingering allowed :) I didn't read about it in advance so was surprised to see some of my favorites included. I got to see a Rembrandt who I love but got tired of after teaching it to middle schoolers for 5 years. There was a lot of modern and abstract pieces that were magnificent you will see in the pictures. Sometimes museums can be confusing in the layout but this one was perfectly arranged in such a way that I loved that after 3 hours the bottoms of my feet hurt and then we made the journey back to our hotel. We had a wonderful time and had to go around twice to our favorite exhibits! I forget the exact price for entry but I was reasonable.

Everything is so fun to look at and read and learn, the views at the top are also very nice with comfortable couches to just sit relax and enjoy. I loved reading about the history of the building as well as walking through the small garden area. This is an instant add to my list of recommendations for people visiting the city.

They're completely different attractions in separate locations, but in my limited memory bank, they sounded the same to me. The Biodome is basically an indoor zoo housed in the converted 1976 Olympic Velodrome, while the Biosphere is a climate change museum in a steel geodesic dome. It was originally designed by Buckminster Fuller as the US pavilion for Expo 67. The vintage appealed to us as well as other nearby sights, so Jamie W and I chose to visit the Biosphere on Île Sainte-Hélène, a separate island on the St Lawrence River. We had seen the distinctive structure from a distance in the Old Port, and it intrigued us as something built in 1967 to represent the future. The dated Jetsons-like architecture has been well maintained. There were two floors featuring interactive exhibitions and generic installations focused on climate change, sustainable development, and ecological action. They varied in their level of engagement. The highlight was definitely the Belvedere, the outdoor vista walkway on the 4th floor (Photo 8). Admission is pricey at C$25.50. RELATED - Exploring Montreal? An archaeological dig is the site of the museum. Displayed are artifacts going back years and years. Highlights include seeing what was the first cobblestone street in the city, walking on a glass floor on top of the dig, walking through a tunnel that was once the sewer system, and seeing the original peace treaty with France on display. This was a fun and interesting way to spend 90 minutes or so learning about the city!

Displays of historical finds, and records are combined with higher tech displays, including some more sophisticated ones, such as having a somewhat real conversation with a (likely) AI generated image of a tavern owner from the 17th century. Navigating this museum may be challenging for folks with mobility issues or vertigo. Many areas are dark, including stairs (elevators are plentiful). But some rooms are built on top of some of the original structures, covered with plate glass floors. Looking down at these and walking might be a struggle for some. And because the museum is in Old Montreal, there are plenty of places you can go in the immediate vicinity before and after your visit!

It will be my pleasure to update this review at some future date, several years from now…read more As a fan of contemporary art I was looking forward to this museum only to learn - too late - that it's under renovation for the next couple of years. The site I was directed to (in Montreal's underground mall) is a tiny sample of their usual offering, so small in fact, that paying anything to enter struck me as an utter money grab. (My entry fee was waived as I had the Passport MTL). Even with essentially free admission for me, what was on view here was less than compelling and I had to work hard to engage my interest. My recommendation is to wait until they're back in their permanent home. Finding this place wasn't worth the time it took but, of course, I thought I was headed to the real deal, not a temporary exhibit.

When I visited, the exhibit was "femmes volcans forêts torrents,) an exhibit featuring nine woman artists whose works relate to the environment, ecosystems, environmentalism, etc. I'm not sure I would have gotten much out of the exhibit or spent as much time at the museum except that they offer a free walking tour of the exhibit if you enter at the right time (included with the price you pay to visit; the museum is not free). The guide was wonderful and really helped me to have a better interaction with the pieces. I highly recommend taking them up on their offer of a tour if you have the time! Overall, very small and the temporary location is strange, but it can be very interesting if you're interested in contemporary art or if you're interested in the exhibit at the time you visit!

It did take some time to inquire about admission at the desk as there was only one attendant working. We were visiting from Ottawa, and hold a Science museum pass, which gave us free admission here upon showing our membership and I.D. Otherwise, it would cost around $120.00 for the four of us (2 kids, 2 adults). Note that it is $25.00 for parking on site. We only saw two attendants throughout our whole time there. No staff on the floor. One to gain admission, and another to check out tickets further down. Both interactions with staff were to the point, and they were able to communicate in English. When we did get our tickets scanned for entry, we asked the attendant about food options on site (which was only a coffee shop, on the main floor). Interaction was very blunt, and to the point, and the attendant went back looking down at her phone. Super unprofessional. The museum itself was very interactive, but much smaller than I expected Maybe I missed parts of the museum, but we were able to get through within an hour. The kids seemed to have fun. It is definitely geared for kids to run around and explore. We did notice a slime room? but it was closed and locked up. There is a small playroom for ages 0-7 to roam safely. The museum was fine, but I would not run back.

With only about 50 people in line, I had the space to move freely, look up into the treetops, and peer down into rivers and tanks without feeling rushed. It felt immersive from the start. What makes this place special is how alive it feels. No cages, no bars, just ecosystems. Birds glide overhead, and wildlife lives within carefully designed natural habitats that feel both safe and intimate. Close enough to connect, far enough to respect the wild. Accessibility was thoughtful too, with both stairs and a smooth walkway option. Getting there early made all the difference. By my second loop, the school groups had arrived and the energy shifted from calm exploration to lively chaos. The Biodome itself is massive, divided into five distinct ecosystems. One moment you're wrapped in tropical warmth, the next you're stepping into a colder, northern world. It's like walking through climates instead of hallways. Location is another win. It's right outside Viau Station, making it incredibly easy to reach. Plus, it sits alongside the Montreal Olympic Tower and the Montreal Planetarium, turning the area into a full-day adventure playground. The staff were welcoming and bilingual in French and English, adding to an already smooth experience. #tysadventures26 #SpringBreak26 #Biodome
