The lobby of the hotel is simply stunning, featuring lots of art and a chic modern look. Room was very comfortable: comfy bed, nice carpets, coffee maker, and luxurious shower. We ended up staying a second night because of how lovely it was. My wife is normally picky about her hotels but this one exceeded her stringent criteria. A great place to stay!

The character of the entire hotel is so much more enjoyable than impersonal "chains". Service was wonderful-supportive and helpful. And the hairdryer was so much better than most hotels! Breakfast is great. Light and fresh- a great way to start the day. I asked for and received a recommendation on where to go for a run. I was sent down to the canal, and it was an excellent suggestion. I recommend taking a few euro with on the run- just to stop at one the wonderfully smelling boulangeries on the way back to the hotel. All in all- definitely a great choice if your travels take you to Beziers. I will be telling my colleagues to stay here and no where else while in town.

Also, there are several other Ibis Hotels in the area luring weary drivers anxious for rest after a day on the road in the wrong direction. After two incorrect Ibises, we finally found the correct one in a dingy industrial area. You have to drive down a dark road through parked trucks to get to the hotel. There are no shops or restaurants within walking distance, only industrial concerns. The rooms was uncomfortably tiny, even by European standards. And it was noisy, since the Autopista runs right next to it. I noticed the next morning that both sides of the hotel were exposed to this noise, since the Autopista curves by it. One positive note, the front desk clerk Gwendel was very nice, energetically tending to a full house of guests.

We were traveling the Canal du Midi and stopped in Columbiers for the night. We were looking for a nice restaurant and found that this was one of the few that was open on a Sunday night off-season. Despite not having a reservation they were able to accommodate our party of six. While we were choosing from the menu they brought us some delicious small green olives and crustini with cream spread. I'll only hit a few of the highlights from the dishes that our party had. I had the sea bass carpacio which was served with a very delicate Olive oil, a pepper grinder and fleur d'sel, and a couple of Radisson leaves and roasted Italian peppers. The fish was flavorful and perfectly fresh. Others in our party had the warm fois gras with pears which was delicious. The goat cheese salad was also delicious and unexpected being more a warm crispy cheesy, bacon filled confection. Three had the St Jaques. Perfectly cooked scallops with a beet butter sauce. The lamb and beef also got high praise as did the half pigeon. Dessert brought more fine examples of great cooking. The pear Belle Helene was a lightly poached pear enrobed in dark chocolate sauce, sprinkled with toasted almonds and accompanied with a perfect quenelle of vanilla ice cream. The plum tart and the Grand Marnier souffle also got raves, as did the chocolate crispy confection which featured an extraordinary crisp, and a multi layer mousse cake. There was but one server, but he kept up with the entire small dining room of tables beautifully. On his recommendation we had two local bottles of wine, one red and one white. Both were very nice. This restaurant is part of a hotel of the same name and suggests that this may be a great place for an escape.

As…read moresoon as we arrived we were struck by the warmth of her welcome and the attention to detail which continues to delight: the homemade jams at breakfast, the fresh fruit, the fridge of cold drinks made available on the terrace The building itself is a wonderful medieval town house, with a courtyard and roof terrace, all impeccably refurbished. Babette also organized a wine tasting on the terrace... a lovely way of relaxing before heading out for a meal and a nice way of meeting other guests. Throughout our stay we were made to feel completely at home and were genuinely sorry to leave. Merci beaucoup Babette!

Driving down from Carcassonne, you turn to narrow straight road, lined perfectly with trees, that leads you to quiet town of Floure. Locals gather at the entrance to stare and greet, and just around the corner is a Chateau. Grounds are simply marvelous, old buildings, gardens, a lot to take in. Decent size rooms with AC (yes, it is unusual for this region - I am grateful for it in this hot summer!) Half-board is a good option to get if they still offer it, food here is very, very good. Dinner service, food itself, and wine, of course - all top notch. Local bread is delight. Strolling in the gardens or sitting by fireplace on colder nights after dinner, just enjoying the time here - a wonderful place to be. I WILL come back, Floure!
