Denominations don't matter to me, and neither do lofty theological discussions about this or that. What matters to me is whether or not the Gospel is being taught. Although we are members of another Christian church and different denomination, we were welcomed with open arms. We chose to attend Hope Baptist as Sunday night services are limited in our area. We were thankful to find a local Bible believing church still having night services. The music was very good as we both enjoy old hymns . The preaching and the personal testimonies were wonderful. And it is so welcomed to still hear alter calls and see people responding. We regularly attend a church with a more relaxed dress code, yet we did not feel frowned upon the 1st night that I wore slacks and a shirt( with the name of another church embossed on it). Since then I carefully choose a dress or skirt and less casual top as we attend Hope Baptist. We plan to continue attending Hope Baptist for their Sunday or mid-week services.

I'm new to coming to church and was even given my own Bible on my first day. It's easy to make friends within the church without even reaching out, they seem to come to you. Also, they still read hymns from the book! Old fashioned and lovely.

One of my favorite parts of the service is the greeting time: most churches give you 3 minutes before you have to rush back to your seat, but here the greeting time extends through almost the entire worship, which I think really helps build connections among members and visitors. Do be prepared for a possible culture shock if you're used to evangelical or fundamentalist Baptist churches. Redeemer comes from a charismatic background. If you prefer a charismatic church don't be deterred by the "Baptist" in the title (which they actually dropped from their name years ago, I don't know why it's still listed as "Redeemer Fellowship Baptist Church" on Yelp), you will feel at home here. The worship is contemporary, with their head pastor, John Piippo, as the lead guitarist. The pastor has a doctorate in philosophy and it shows in the emphasis on discipleship here. All the messages I have heard have been solid. I know not every layperson represents the church as a whole, but I have heard some irresponsible teaching on the charismatic gifts by some of the laypeople--never from the leadership, however.

She is a member of the church and helps with the food pantry. I have noticed that she behaves prejudicely towards black people at times. One time, I was going to get a water bottle from the kitchen but Cathy said that I can't have any. So, I just walked away. Then, someone walks through the doors and Cathy offers HIM something to drink. Keep in mind that he's white. I wouldn't have taken it too seriously if one of my friends hadn't told me that the exact same thing happened to them. I thought this church was past all the prejudice acts, but I was totally wrong. Another time was when I asked Mrs. Daniels, the secretary, if I could get a popsicle from the freezer and she said that it was fine. So, I went in the kitchen to go get one and Cathy showed up. I just thought she was doing her own thing so I just grabbed the popsicle. She stopped me and said, "Hey, you can't take one from here." I said, "Mrs. Daniels said I could. You can ask her if you-" She interrupts me and says, "I don't believe you." I was trying to convince her but I knew I couldn't say anything to change her mind, so I just walked away.

They have a high regard for discipleship, and this is definitely revealed in the school that is associated with the church. I have good friends that go here, and I love to visit. Don't forget to check out the page on the Holy Ghost Lutheran School as well. The facilities are all on the same property. There is the old church, the new church, the school, and a mobile home turned into extra space on the property. There is a large parking lot that is filled up every Sunday. Of course, being Lutheran, the services will look very Catholic, so if you're Catholic you may feel comfortable here. If you're a protestant, don't be put off by the Catholic look--they preach the Gospel here. As I get to know this body of believers better I will give an update.
