I'm not used to seeing Trinidadian food and I've only tried it once before. I Love caribbean food so I had to check it out. The service was awesome, friendly, kind, helpful. The Front of House person could tell I was "new" to the cuisine and she provided descriptions to help me satisfy my cravings. The place was clean and well lit with cute signs, paintings, tables and bar seating. Trinidadian music was playing at in the background and it was a vibe, the volume and tempo were just right. I ordered a basil lime juice an it was delicious. I might be obsessed with basil and I could tell quality ingredients were used to make the juice. I just need a gallon of it to take home. THE FOOD...The food was sooooo good! The freshness, the textures, the flavors.... it was magical. I ordered doubles and just thought "if all vegan food was this good, I'd be down 3 dress sizes" I also got the soft, flakey roti with stew chicken. There are two types of roti but I forget the names. It was so flavorful, comforting, and made with care. The chicken was tender and the soft, flakey roti just soaked up all the sauces. The Curry Lover's Bowl was amazing. It was bursting with flavor and the dhal, goat and rice went together well. The sauces they gave me on the side were yummy too. Don't know how it compares to other Trinidadian restaurants as it's my first time trying. Ever since discovering this place, I need to give them their flowers because they truly deserve it. This place is a women owned business that serves AUTHENTIC Trini cuisine. When I tell you, the spice and seasoning just melt into your mouth and is so flavorful - I feel like I have been transported to the island of Trinidad and Tobago. I went here at 7:15 on a Saturday night, it was not busy, lots of parking, & easy to get to. Staff is super welcoming & friendly. They made sure we understood everything on the menu & helped us pick out our dinner by giving suggestions. We were given small samples of the house made juices. All 3 of them were absolutely delicious! We ended up going with the passion fruit juice. There was 1 juice In particular that stuck with me & that was the Sorrel juice, it tasted like Christmas time lol. We had Doubles for an appetizer which was great as well but a little bit too spice for me, which I should've known because we requested for it to be hot. One of the advantages of living in Palm Beach County is the availability of Trinidadian food, which I had never tasted before moving here 15 years ago. It's become one of my favorite cuisines, and as of yesterday, Chunkay became my favorite place to enjoy Trinidadian food. Every dish was fresh, delicious, sweet, spicy, and/or savory, and I enjoyed every morsel. The chickpea doubles were light and fluffy, with a beautiful sweet and sour chickpea filling, which was made even more delectable with the mild pepper sauce, which cut through the entire packet of goodness. The order of shrimp fried wontons (with hot sauce) was huge (12 pcs), but I urge you to get one per person, because you will not want to share them. Even in a to-go box, the wontons stayed so crispy and airy and the filling was like a little burst of flavor that I couldn't get enough of. Seriously, I could have eaten two plates of these. The curried beef roti (dhalpuri/wrapped) was another huge portion, put together perfectly in a soft roti packet. The filling of meat was so tender you could eat it with a spoon and potatoes. The flavors of the dish came together so well - like a comforting beef stew that I never wanted to end. And to top it all off, the peanut punch (with plant based milk) was off the chain delicious. I love the taste of cinnamon and spices with my peanut punch, and I accompanied it with an order of gulab jamun, a sweet dough covered in sugar and cardamom. I decided to order delivery for lunch today from Chunkay and can I say that was one of my better decisions on this trip to Florida. I have had homemade Trini food before and I was hoping this restaurant had oxtail on their menu. Unfortunately that didn't BUT everything I ordered was excellent! First of all-the food was delivered contactless. Everything was nicely packed into a paper bag and the food was sealed with safety seal/tape. I ordered the Geera pork ($8.95) as an appetizer and the wontons ($9.95). This is pork infused with cumin seeds & Fresh Herbs, per the menu" 'Chunkayed" (sauteed) Right! It "melts in yuh mouth." I actually ordered this for myself, and my husband who happens to think sometimes mayo is spicy, grabbed and finished it. He was crying a bit later, but I have to day this was in fact melt in your mouth. A slightly spicy cup of diced pork with tons of fresh cumin and herb flavor.Because the pork is sauteed in infused oil and I guess garlic, it has a smoked flavor. The wontons were seriously the best. They are described as " Wonton skins stuffed with perfectly seasoned Shrimp, deep fried and served with our Chef Crafted Trini Asian Dipping Sauce." I would go back and order these super crispy wontons right away. I also ordered the curried chicken roti ($9.95). Delicious, not too spicy (you can specify level of spiciness). I got to request some tamarind sauce with it. I order it with Paratha (Soft Buttery layered Flatbread). The curried potatoes and chickpeas that came on the side were plentiful and paired well with tamarind sauce. We all know what it's like when that Sunday craving hits and nothing short of divine intervention will stop you from obtaining your fix. Well for me, that was some Trini food to round out my weekend! My usual place was closed with Covid hours but I relentlessly scoured the interwebs to find a suitable alternative and lo and behold I find a place that looks promising only 7 minutes away! It seemed pretty new but it was a risk I was willing to take, and boy am I glad I did. Ms. Evita answered when I called and her Trini accent put me at ease that I was in good hands. One breakfast bake, a few doubles, and a roti wrapped curry chicken. All of my food was "thermawrapped" to keep it nice and warm and the online ordering process was easy as could be. So the only thing left was the most important detail. The food! So I strapped in, cracked a few things open, and tried everything while it was fresh. I was then washed over by that comforting, familiar feeling of the first bite of tasty food that reminds you of home. The portion size alone made the price feel like such a good value! Which always makes food taste better to me as well. The roti was soft, the doubles were full of flavor, and the fried bake melted in your mouth. The curry chicken roti was unmistakably Trini 2 de Bone(even though it was conveniently boneless) and I knew that the risk was worth it and that I had made a GREAT choice. Supporting new, local businesses is such an important aspect of community, especially during this uncertain era of Covid. The fact that this was a female owned, entrepreneurial venture by some fellow, local Trinis was already enough to have me on board. Their service, friendliness, and professionalism only made their case stronger, and the food was the signature on the dotted line for me. Chunkay Trini Cuisine is bound to be a local favorite once they get fully on their feet but they need all the local support they can get! Both owners (female power) were very friendly and welcoming. We had the curry chicken with paratha (roti) as well as soursop & basil/lime drink.
