I was excited driving by a month back when I saw this restaurant being remodeled. It's a great location and I knew it just needed some love. My boyfriend and I came in this evening for some dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The inside looks fresh and new. It's clean, simple and no longer feels old and worn out. The menu is a good size and offers plenty of options. We ordered the loaded burrito and two taco combo, with a lemonade and water the total came out to $17.50. I easily have another meal left from the huge burrito. The chips and salsa were great. I was happy that the salsa wasn't overwhelmingly spicy. We'll be back. Dropped in on Monday with a friend to check out happy hour--which turns out to be just drink specials, I think... but we did share a $16 pitcher of house margaritas so I can't complain on that! Even if they are the sweet syrupy lime green colored mix type of margarita, that's still a good deal. We each had two full glasses from that pitcher and still left some behind. I ordered one mole enchilada with rice and beans for my meal, which was pretty average but at the same time good and hit the spot. My friend got a couple of tacos which looked great, each with hefty topping of guacamole on each. It happened to be a sunny day (in April!) so we were happy to sit out on the little patio at Chula's, which was a nice surprise to have there. This place opened in the spot of another Mexican joint which wasn't that good. Things are improved notably with the new business. The color of the exterior is certainly striking: an intense bright blue that is probably visible from space. The interior is clean and seems smaller than it should be from the outside, about 100 seats including a sizable number in the bar area. When we arrived on a Monday night the dining room was mostly full, so we took a table in the bar. The very chatty bartender pushed the margaritas hard (it was Margarita Monday according to the promotional schedule), but we laid off the alcohol and had soft drinks with our chips and salsa, which had a fair amount of vegetation and just enough heat to let you know it wasn't ketchup. DLW had fajitas, which she liked, but had to ask for extra tortillas, which they brought without a problem. I had chili verde, a go-to for me at Tex-Mex places, and it satisfied. Rice and beans came with, and they were nothing special. This place should do well with the UO crowd, with its everyday drink specials and cheap entrees with very satisfactory portions. read more

Today we went back after having a good experience the first time. The first time the food was good had great flavor and good service , this time the food was bland and didn't taste that great. The service today sucked they had like 7 people waiting and were not that busy. We had to ask for everything they didn't check on us at all hardly because they where to busy talking and laughing up front. They then brought us only half our order and had to wait almost 15-20 minutes for the rest of it. We had to flag the waiter down to ask for salsa. Finally what I am assuming was their manager heard me say how their service was bad and she started waiting on us, she did a good job as to why we left her a tip; but the rest of the crew was horrible. Hopefully they can get their crew on the same page and teach them how to serve and when is appropriate time to talk and when it's time to work. They also need to make sure their cooks keep consistency in seasoning their food I know each cook is different,but they need to keep it similar so it's not bland. Not trying to be harsh just honest, if they up how they treat their customers they would be a unstoppable business. They have cute decore and it is a clean restaurant. read more

I placed an order thru Grubhub and the driver got lost. When I tried to direct him to my house, he insisted that he had to call grubhub customer service. Within moments my order was cancelled. I tried calling the restaurant but was told by them that they could not help with contacting grubhub and that I was on my own. I will never deal with Chula's or grubhub again!! If you have driven near the U of O campus, you have probably noticed this bright aqua building before. Middle of the road prices, cute decor, and pretty decent tex mex style Mexican food. This was a great place to spend an afternoon to hang out and get a filling meal- chips and salsa were very good, and the queso was pretty bomb as well. My husband had the California burrito and I had the wet burrito- both were very good, and they also served some pretty good margaritas on the rocks! read more

As luck would have it, Chula's was right across the street from the Red Lion Inn where we were staying while visiting Eugene. I'm always on the lookout for great tacos so I was looking forward to trying theirs. I ordered three tacos with my favorite meats: carne asada, carnitas, and al pastor. Each one was really good in its own way. Carne asada was beefy tasting, carnitas was nicely grilled with some crispy edges, and al pastor was pleasantly spicy tasting. Also, the tortillas are freshly made in-house there, and had a slight fluffiness that contributed to the overall goodness of the tacos. Everyone working there that we encountered was pleasant and friendly, especially Bettina, the manager, who stopped by our table and chatted with us. Chulas is the latest rendition of a Mexican restaurant that has been at this location and it's not bad. They recently read decorated and so now it's much more attractive. The chips and salsa keep coming and they are fresh and taste good. Today I had The steak fajita. It was excellent out of the amount of steak makes them was pretty small compared to all the vegetables. My friend had the chimichanga special which was a hearty serving and very good she said. I haven't tried their drinks so I don't know how they are all though I hear they're pretty good. Sometimes the waitresses early on we're wearing outfits from the microbrewery next door so I think they may be connected. It's worth a trip to come visit Chula's. read more

I have always loved Chula's. Their margaritas are phenomenal, their food is delicious, and their staff is lovely. I've been eating here almost weekly for a couple years now, but was just notified by a staff member a couple weeks ago that the rice isn't vegetarian because the recipe calls for chicken stock, even though servers have been telling me the exact opposite the entire time I've been eating here. I'm seriously disappointed, especially since rice is in their veggie burrito. Knowing this seriously reduces my options at Chula's, as I also can't do dairy. I'm hardly visiting Chula's now because their tofu tacos don't do it for me like a veggie burrito used to. I feel that management should really note on the menu that their veggie options aren't vegetarian when rice is involved, or they should explore other ingredient options, like vegetable stock. Eugene has a massive vegan and vegetarian community. Not offering truly vegetarian options will seriously hinder business, especially when the news of the rice not being vegetarian starts to spread. Other than the rice issue (and misinformation given by nearly every server), Chula's is amazing. read more

The other included a delicious house made chili relleano and a tasty chimi changa with a flavorful chili verde (pork in a mild green chili sauce). The fresh corn tortillas are pretty good too! I'm so excited to recommend this restaurant!! My wife and I have been driving past Chula's for years without stopping in to explore the menu. I have consistently threatened to pull over however, every time I drove past, it seemed too crowded with amateur tequila drinkers pounding down blended margaritas with their frat buddies. Now, on to the good part: We were warmly greeted and promptly sat on the patio, which was lovely. Our service was excellent, thanks to Kenzie!!! We were able to get a top shelf margarita which my wife thoroughly enjoyed while I sipped a glass of tequila. We were presented with chips and salsa while we waited for our meal, which was clutch because my wife was starving (she ate all the salsa). Kenzie was a great server and made our dining experience wonderful. The food was delicious and reasonably priced too. We will definitely be coming back to Chula's!! read more

Our family recently stopped in here on a trip through Eugene from So Cal. We found the service to be very attentive. We never lacked anything. Sure there can be long waits and sure it can get a little packed, but the atmosphere and food at Chula's is as good as it gets. This isn't just your run of the mill family Mexican restaurant- it is cuter, fresher, and just feels a touch trendier. The bar is a great place to kill time while you wait for a table and the bartenders are super fun and willing to chat about their tasty drink options (might I recommend a pitcher of guava margaritas). Sitting outside is great and they do now have heaters. You have to order the Camerones Mojo de Ajo... unreal! I have only had one terrible experience here where we were told the wait time would be 20 minutes and it ended up being an hour and 15! read more

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Eugene. (So far.) reasonable prices, decent portions, and a good mix of the staples as well as some things that are a bit more flavorful. Their street tacos are very good and every meat dish I've tried has delicious and tender meat. Frozen margarita pitchers are great--we tried the guava as suggested by the waitress last time and I was not disappointed, I highly recommend it. This was a real surprise! I have spent lots of time in the ag area of central California and like Mexican food. Who would have thought I would find such good Mexican food in Eugene? Not me! I tried a chicken enchilada, my wife had a casadilla, and our third in our party tried a tostada. I was so impressed; the flavor was so good! Usually it takes me a time or two to acclimate to the seasonings before I like them. Not here! Granted, some adjustments have been made from absolutely authentic, but they are even better! Really good! The service was excellent; very fast and efficient. The price was a bit less than equivalent quality in my experience. Not cheap but still very reasonable. There is a great story about how this restaurant came to be, but I don't want to bore you. Ask if you are interested. All in all, this is a place you should try. I think you will enjoy it! read more

I love this place!! The food is pretty good, I love the beans, chips & salsa, and horchata very much! I gave it 4 stars only because sometimes they have a tendency to burn the tortilla too much and doesn't taste as pleasant. Also, got a Cali burrito once and the fries were too crispy and hard to eat. Plus our waitress had no idea what they even offer. I asked for a side of crema and she had no idea what it was. Even though they offer it as a sauce for enchiladas lol. I know it's a Mexican restaurant in eugene and it's a stretch but all I ask is to study the menu a little more. All that put aside, I really do love it here. Chula's is near my work so I end up there a lot... but I'm about ready to put an end to that. The food is mediocre at best. Today I went with 2 friends and each of us had at least 1 mistake in our order, one of which resulted in additional cost. My carnitas taco was either some of the worst carnitas ever or just pretty mediocre carne asada. And that's on a $3.25 taco. I've gotten the bacon wrapped shrimp there which was somewhere $15 for the plate and basically inedible due to overcooking the shrimp. The service is also almost always very very slow. I'm just over giving my hard earned money to a business that's clearly just coasting and doesn't care about quality or customer service. read more

It's pretty good food. Drinks are your stereotypical Mexican restaurant set at a much higher rate. Buyers beware, they say on their menus that they use top self ingredients in their drinks when they use well products instead. For example, their Cadillac margarita they say they use grand marnier and instead use orange curicer. Just don't pay for the expensive stuff because they advertise great ingredients cause they don't.
