Hey Chuck Wagon get longer hot dog buns! They used to be longer and the hot dog didn't stick out on both ends of the bun. Make brewed iced tea instead of instant. That instant tea sucks! Chuck Wagon is a classic staple in the Central Valley. I hadn't been in over 10 years, and it was just as delicious as I remembered. Ordering is done at the window, and there was less seating than I remember, but the service was quick. The chili brought back so many memories and was definitely worth the visit. We tried a little bit of everything--burgers, chili dogs, chili fries, and more. My only complaint was that the burger had too much mustard; even with the chili, the mustard overpowered the flavor. On a random visit to Sanger I had a little time to kill. Decided to try Chuck Wagon since my colleagues from Sanger rave about it. Easy enough to find and the service was fair. Quick interaction. I got the Chili Cheese Dog and a soda. The chili was good but it was a messy eat. The cheese was... not what I expected. I'm not a cheese connoisseur but it visually resembled cheese whiz. Not complaining, I actually like cheese whiz, very nostalgic. Just unexpected on a chili dog. The little paper sleeve the chili dog came in was not up to the task but I think the mess adds to the experience. Overall the chili dog was satisfying although I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at Chuck Wagon. Nothing really special but I do see the allure, especially if you've been coming here all your life as a local. The old menu with the hand placed letters and the order up windows did make me smile remembering the hot dog place I grew up with. I prefer the chili dogs at Tommy's but not driving to So Cal just for that. If I'm ever in Sanger again I'll stop by to try something else. The mushrooms looked interesting. They are on an isolated corner with lots of outdoor seating. The service was excellent. I decided on the shrimp basket. Everything was piping hot. Their tartar sauce is tasty. Had the pleasure of trying this place last night, for the first time. Hands down, 10 out of 10 from the beginning. First, we drove over 60 minutes to get there. We called in our order, and since it's my first time I was very lost while ordering. The girl was very kind and patient. Not one sign of frustration with my back and forth. The true definition of the words 'gut buster,' I was in the area helping a new Medicare client with insurance options. The 3 better restaurants I'd spied out on Yelp were all closed. I mean for this category of food, it was good but it's a bit of a shock to the system if you are not accustomed to eating this badly! Food like this HATES places like Heirloom or Annesso.... I ordered the double chili burger which was a MESS to eat and impossible to keep the chili within the burger...it completely splayed out insider the diaper/wrapper like baby cream, squirt poo! Trying to eat it in nice cloths was virtually impossible, somewhat undignified. Oh well, no one was looking but I regretted NOT having any latex gloves with me! I sometime DO have them or in the in car for just such an occasion. Makes leaving the scene of the crime much faster and can avoid having to use an unknown location bathroom with real squirts! lol After all, anything that facilitates the process of correctly getting food more accurately in mouth is usually a go. Perhaps a roll of paper towels here, too! The fired mushrooms were good for what they were. They came with a side of ranch but this meal is NOT something that moves though one without taking a toll. So this is a first time experience for me. I've always heard such great things about the chili dog so today while on my lunch since I was in the area I decided to stop and try it out. I called ahead and got hung up on before I was done ordering so that already gave me a bad vibe about service. I had to call back and the young lady kinda huff and puffed as I told her I wanted to make sure it was a chili cheese dog and not just a chili dog. And all she said was "yup ok is that all"; did not give a total or time when order would be done and i almost wasn't sure about my order based on her service but I knew they were busy so I just brushed it off. Even though, I think she could've been more hospitable and polite over the phone. But food was everything everyone has ever talked about only it wasn't very warm when I got it. At the hospital during childbirth, my nurse mentioned how great this place was since we lived near Sanger. We finally decided to try it, having high hopes. Ordered a cheeseburger with chili cheese fries, and my husband got the speciality burger with crinkle fries. I get the nostalgia, but it reminded me of a mix between Snack bar food from a high school football game and cafeteria food. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid and whenever I am in town I always make it a point to stop here. Is it the best food in the world...no, but it's consistent and love that its a small family owned spot. The fries are crinkle cut and so so so good. The ice in their sodas is just special. Their chili is bomb, chili dogs are great, burgers are great. Just a great small local burger stand. I'm glad they FINALLY accept cards after all of these years. Always friendly service and epitomizes the whole small town feel of a little burger stand in the middle of town.
