Awesome hometown paper. Local, local news - the kind of stuff you want to know: what's going on in the neighborhood, current events, business, etc. Very good coverage of local candidates and elections. The editor/owner is fair, down to earth and calls it like he sees it. Like anyone else, we sometimes agree and sometimes don't, but he always gives a well rounded argument and isn't condescending - a breath of fresh air in today's world. Ads have a nice personal touch - I often learn of new businesses, places to eat or stop for an ice cream. An all around great paper! read more

I am very taken aback by a recent article that headlines as a "Downtown Update" in which the owner speaks his mind about closing businesses in downtown Glens Falls, and the reasoning behind it. As someone who has worked in every single location of Saratoga Sundress, I can honestly say I wish he had taken even a few seconds to get his facts straight. We have carried the name all throughout the capital district, and now we have two successful locations that are only growing every season.. all the way down in Florida! The name is our roots, Saratoga is something we are proud of! It also happens to be a draw for many customers who recognize it as a place they've visited and have fond memories of. Sundresses are a girly clothing staple, and something that is connected with our Race Course background of our hometown. We make it abundantly clear on social media and our website, along with any interviews and articles that we carry way more than sundresses- not to mention our daily changing mannequins that constantly sport separates, sweaters, coats, jumpsuits, rompers, handbags and accessories which change with the seasons! Lastly, and this is probably the biggest thing he got wrong, we are extremely involved in every community we are located in. I personally have written out hundreds of gift certificates to be raffled off or placed in a silent auction. We sponsor local events and causes (including the ADIRONDACK hockey team, Siena College fundraising events, teaming up with other local businesses for pop-ups, local citizens and families that have been through all types of trauma, donations and silent auctions of every variety... and the list goes on and on). This doesn't even begin to touch on the connections we build with our clientele local to every area we are in; A Florida regular lost all of her clothing because of Irma, we gave her a shopping spree. After a fire, we gave a discount to anyone who brought gently used clothing for one of the victims. We build strong bonds with our customers, no matter how frequently they stop in. We are proud to be a part of every community we are in, and we always do our best to have a positive impact. read more

The Chronicle has its pluses and minuses and it is one of the sources of news up here. I like its use of contributing writers which gives it local appeal but I massively disagree with one of the writers, Cathy Dede. Cathy Dede writes reviews of "the arts" up here...she writes reviews about middle school plays. She recently wrote a review about "The Lake George Theater Lab" which has caused me to stop reading this paper and why I have given only 2 stars to this paper. The LGTL is a professional lab which hosts new American plays and develops them hopefully for off Broadway and Broadway. This year Cathy Dede wrote a review that shocked the town of Bolton in which she referred to us as "the short sleeved glitterati." While I respect her right to an opinion (she did not like the plays this year) she offered no explanation why she disliked it and then wrote about how she would have directed the plays to make them better...plays which were massively well received by the audiences all 3 nights. In her review she attacked the play "The Grave" by Gabe McKinley solely because of a personal hatred she has for him, his older brother (co-founder of the LGTL), and the artistic director of the LGTL. 5 days after Cathy Dede's review "The Grave" won the Samuel French Off-Off-Broadway Short Play Festival. Cathy Dede's lack of writing knowledge and etiquette win this paper a sad 2 stars which I would normally award a high 3 stars to. If the Chronicle gets rid of Cathy Dede (I hear she is leaving) I would gladly give this paper 3 stars and begin reading it again...till then it is rubbish. It needs lots of local advertising dollars to stay afloat, but the sheer number of ads make the paper very difficult to read--and the writing in the paper itself is very hit and miss. It's definitely nice that Glens Falls has a community paper like this, but it's just not worth the effort to try and read it. read more

A some times hit-sometimes miss read. The owner---former lawyer and local boy--- Mark Frost makes no bones about this being HIS personal political platform. He sometimes tries to present a differing view but this generaly fails. He has so much "invested" in his narrow view. Not a "political extremest" in the strict sense of the word---not a cult view or anything--but disagrees with most politics that make SENSE to me. I do look at it now and again (I live a bit out of the free distribution area) when I find it but the best thing they do is a local calendar that is useful for both common and a bit off-beat events. They are very "big" on supporting local business but to the extreme of "NEVER SHOP AT WALMART" kinda deal--ya know, YOUR neighbors WORK at Walmart. Never ever set foot in a "Big Box"---well MY husband works at a Big Box because we can't AFFORD to live on what a local building supply place could AFFORD to pay him! I know---these guys would like to THINK that all of us North Country Pioneer Stock types all own our own business and they are thriving and we can AFFORD to shop at---well, where in the Glens Falls area CAN you find a localy owned and run business to buy--underwear? I can't think of one and I have lived in the area (including in the City of GF) for over 30 years. You CAN find extremely spendy sports gear, kitchen installers, and the like but for your everyday life you will either have to seriously DRIVE or mail order. Who wants to mail order EVERYTHING? Some days I want to grab Mr. Frost and shake him and say--WAKE UP! We live in the REAL WORLD here!!!! We can't ALL be shopping at---Local Down Town Underwear Purveyors Esq. This newspaper references opinions and uses them as facts. The owner recently published an article in which it lists several businesses that closed and inserts his own ideas as to why the establishments are no longer open for business in the Glens falls community. There are no accredited professionals quoted anywhere in the article. It becomes painfully apparent that his own personal opinions are the center for this rag. Perhaps if he spent more time bolstering the businesses in his community instead of drafting biased conjecture, the chronicle would actually find the sponsorship it needs to pay writers capable of publishing unbiased articles worth reading. read more

The Chronicle is a hometown newpaper which truly lives up to what you would expect from that. It does a great job keeping us locals informed on the goings-on around the region. It's a bit rah-rah, but it's not bad to have an editor who truly enjoys the people and the region he serves. Lately there have been an abundance of stories on far-off travel done by the editors and other contributors. While I find these article interesting, it is a bit off-target , so hopefully they will cut back on those a bit. The editor's column is wonderful, as he doesn't heistate to state his opinion, and is willing to call politicians out by name. Don't always agree with him, but it's good that he takes a stance. Wish the paper did some more investigative journalism on the local political scene...maybe that will come. This is a paper I look forward to reading each week! read more

Perfect coverage of the local scene. Mark Frost is decidedly conservative - not a problem as upstate NY is largely conservative. The Chronicle serves as a counter point to the liberal, low education directed local rag; Post Star. Often provides more accurate, detailed information on local issues than the local paper and most certainly, the Albany Times Union. read more

A very disappointing read the other day. In a world of local businesses needing to be supported by their communities Mr. Frost just bashed so many. I have shopped with the owners of Saratoga Sundress for my daughter and have had nothing but amazing customer service and fun. I have also had many conversations with the owners of their success in so many areas. The article speaks about how it shouldn't be named "Saratoga" but that is the location of where it originated! I feel that Mr Frost wrote an article based on judging a book by its cover without doing any of the research. Inserting his own personal opinions. No questions answered by employees or quotes by the business owner. They have stores located in Florida with the same name that are flourishing. I know because I have visited and because I ask questions-unlike Mr Frost. I hope that he takes the time to actually get to know the business since he has probably upset so many that love the company and the brand. Especially speaking that the company never got to know the community-did you know they just did a fundraiser for women in the local community not long ago? Did you know they support so many other local businesses by doing events with them constantly? Clearly not. Continue to write your articles Mr Frost without facts-You have lost a long time reader. read more

The Chronicle is basically 90% ads with a few "articles" written by a very small team of "journalists" who tend to write slanted opinion pieces. But all you really need to know about the quality of The Chronicle is it tried to make it as a subscriber newspaper and failed miserably. read more

The chronicle may be a weekly highlight for a few, but not me. The same old advertisements...in the same old format. Good thing there are so many old family monied people in and around lake George...hence they would have nobody to write about it seems. Week after week is a story about an old lady who grew up "summering" on Lake George...wow...nice money...old money...lasting money...most folks I know grew up working for minimum wage "summering" on Lake George...had to pay to park somewhere...and could not afford to grab I meal there because it is just too expensive. Week after week a story of a rich family who bought up more real estate...after their families had spent time on the lake. I can't even afford to rent a boat for the day on the lake...let alone a meager cabin by the water's edge. Rub it in...yet they never seem to see that these privileged few care nothing about the fact that they have taken the lake from us..because of the family money. How about a story of what to do in and around lake for $50. dollars a day...and enjoy the sound of the water from the large wrap around porch...remembered from a childhood....come on...enough. One redeming factor....it's costenloss!.....Wunderbar! read more
