If you want yarn, it's fine if you like acrylic, but useless if you actually want wool - the terms aren't interchangeable! It has a good line in standard cheap equipment - Pony needles, stitch holders, etc - but not much at the more interesting end of the market. If you are a traditional knitter who wants to churn out baby blankets and bootees, great - if you are into more contemporary items, you're better off looking elsewhere, I'm afraid. They also stock an interesting line of baby clothes and notions, which are worth a look if you want something traditional or not the standard Mothercare style.

In case you're not familiar with it, Brambles stocks wool, haberdashery and fabric. Apparently quite a lot of people make children's clothes using materials there. This craft shop is one of the largest independant shops I've been in. They hold a massive amount of…read morestock for almost any craft you might be interested in. The staff are very helpful and are happy to put time in with you talking about what you will be doing and what the most appropriate products for you are. The prices vary, some things are cheaper than usual, and other things more pricey, but overall I usually find I get a good deal. As far as paints are concerned, they stock most ranges in their entirety, so you will probably find what you are looking for. The range of papers they have is wonderful, ranging from plain colours to rainbow and some lovely hand made papers too. They also have a large artists section, stocking all sizes of canvas, paintbrushes, various types and colours of paints.
