My first mistake was not looking at all of Dr Pearson's reviews on Yelp and Google. I saw four stars for his Santa Barbara practice and assumed that was good enough. He's a doctor, he knows what he's doing, right? Wrong. I came to Dr Pearson as most, through a referral from my PC Doc via my HMO. He diagnosed me with a Morton's neuroma and told me surgery was the only option. After a few months, I decided to go through with the procedure. He never ordered an MRI or any imaging. The surgery went fine, but my recovery never happened. After 11 months , he finally ordered an MRI. The MRI clearly showed and described a recurring neuroma. Dr Pearson, ignored that and basically told me the pain was in my head. "Pain is pain" were his exact words. No offer to do a follow up surgery or admit he didn't do the procedure correctly. He was very elusive and dismissive in his responses to questions. After a total of 14 appointments over a 2 year period, and a failed surgery, I gave up on this guy and found another doctor. I'm now 6 weeks post Op with Dr Haggerty at Alta Orthopedic. She found the neuroma, removed it and I'm now back to hiking and walking at about 80% and hopeful to make a full recovery. Sorry, Dr Pearson, pain is not always pain. Sometimes pain is caused by the actual problem you diagnosed but failed to resolve. Dr Pearson may be good enough for simple broken ankles and sprangs, but I'd stay far away If you need surgery or have a complicated issue.

I wish I could remember everyone's name to thank them personally but everyone from the PA,, nurses, recovery nurses, surgeon and anesthesiologist treated me with kindness and respect. Dr Shepard and his team including the very important anesthesiologist cared for me in a way that brings tears to my eyes. Dr Shepard made the decision to try to save my toe. The anesthesiologist made the decision to do a block so that I would not experience much pain on the flight home the next day. The orthopedist I saw in AZ for follow up has praised Dr Shepard and his team many, many times. I have a long road for a full recovery but have had no infections, my toe appears primarily intact and recovered. Thank you Dr Shepard and anyone who cared for me that day. I have never, ever been cared for in a medical facility with such kindness, genuine concern and the best decision making. I am still emotional and so very thankful when I think back on that day. Words do not do these beautiful professionals justice.

SO glad we did. His thorough study of all the reports, thorough examination of his feet (both were involved), and further questions resulting in more images, followed by taking the time to explain and educate, assured us that we would get the best outcome with Dr. Harrison. Everything he said jived with all the research I had done, as well as what I knew was on those reports (I couldn't say the same for the other doctor we saw, who had much cooler wallhangings in her office- and this created a challenge in explaining to my son who he should go with). I had researched and read that he would likely never walk normally again and that he would likely have to order specially made shoes to fit his deformed feet. In contrast, as of right now, although he still has months of physical therapy to go, 6 screws and a plate in one heel, and 2 screws in the other, he has been traveling internationally, is able to walk practically unhindered mostly all day, and he has been skiing. His gait is almost perfect and his shoe size increased by only 1/2 a size - Vans off the shelf - and he swims just fine! We can thank Dr Harrison for his amazing skills, for truly caring, for having the respect and personal regard toward his patients to explain, and for taking the time to get it right.

I also followed up with another surgeon in town and now I fully understand my options and the road ahead of me. I do not recommend this doctor. He did the bare minimum with me and is very apathetic.

Had my chart sent over in less than 24 hours from Ventura Ortho for a second opinion and evaluation here. Appointment with Dr. Romero went well and we rescheduled a surgery consult and prep recall out a few weeks. We just don't feel comfortable proceeding with this medical group when there is NO confidence in receiving responsible access to records or the doctor's office. Potential patients beware... Canceling today and moving forward elsewhere so we can be assured of quality care and a professional medical team.
