This year, my husband and I needed to file an extension to our return, due to a 1099 that was not received until the end of March. The 1099 was only for $900, however Tera told us our tax liability would be almost $1200! Fortunately my husband's sister is a CPA and she informed us that the tax due could not be more than the amount received from the 1099. I mentioned this to Tera, and she immediately became insulted and told me to let our family member file the amended return. We did just that and saved over $800 in taxes due, not to mention the $175 fee Tera was going to charge us for the return. I felt that Tera's reactions were quite unprofessional. Our H&R Block tax preparer didn't know anything about corporate returns and he wasn't a CPA. But, we gave H&R Block a try. A year later, we recevied a hefty tax bill in addition to what we already paid. It appears H&R Block made a couple mistakes on our returns. I called the Short Pump H&R Block office and they're closed. I called the generic 1-800 support line and they said the Short Pump H&R Block office would be open a week from now. A week from now! I can't wait a week. Now we have a fire drill to get someone (anyone) from H&R Block to help. The one year I used H&R Block is the one time I ever had a problem. So... lesson learned. I'm going back to my trusted CPA from now on. Oh by the way, the H&R Block guy who messed up our taxes isnt a CPA. Not even close. He's just some dude who was trained to enter info in H&R's version of Turbo Tax. Holy cow... we effectively let some homeless guy do our taxes.
