If you are new in hamburg and need a GP, here is the place to go. I can only talk about Dr. Bernhardt but they share the room with two gps. Dr. Bernhardt is friendly and he explains everything, he always take patients first. He is no body who would give you a medicine even when this would be the easiest solution without discussion an alternative way that would be better for you. Don't get me wrong he is not the one who wouldn't prescribe hard drugs (he really do that) but if there is a better alternative and time to try that first he will suggest that. I like him and i recommend him to everyone, even my parents. *** Nun, wenn Du Deinen Eltern einen Arzt empfiehlst dann kann man wohl sicher sein das er gut ist. Dr. Bernhardt ist genau das und bevor er Dir harte Medikament verschreibt bespricht er mit Dir lieber auch mal eine Alternative. Went to see Dr. Bernhardt today, taking Phil's review as a recommendation, and he seems a thoroughly nice chap. His English is good (much better than my German) but not quite as fluent as I had been expecting. He recommended that I stop the medications that I'd been prescribed in a walk-in weekend clinic, and just rest my injured elbow as much as possible. I was offered a few days off work, which was nice, but after a discussion as to whether it would help my healing (not really), I decided to come to work. The only slightly negative part of the experience was that the receptionist had a slightly terse phone manner. She in fact turned out to be really nice in person, so I guess it was a language thing. Dr. Bernhardt is a wonderful GP located quite centrally in Hamburg, just up from the main station. If you need a friendly English-speaking doctor, look no further than this man. I've had two excellent experiences with him. The first getting my test results through and being told that carrying on drinking was fine. The more important second was when he immediately called an ambulance and got me into hospital last week, despite the best efforts of the receptionists to make me wait whilst dying. He then also followed up with a phone call the next day to find out what had happened to me - I owe him a beer! read more
