My interactions with this congregation have been nothing but kind and considerate. I have found…read morethem to be very sweet people!

You've no doubt heard the parable of the Good Samaritan; how a man was badly injured and left for…read moredead. Both a priest and a Levite walked right past him, even crossing the road to avoid him, but it was a despised Samaritan who helped him. Have you ever wondered what happened to the priest and the Levite? Read on, and you'll find out. While out walking one evening, I cut across property owned by the East Ridge Church of Christ to avoid walking in the road as there was no sidewalk. I stepped into a hole which was concealed by grass and fell. I couldn't stand up and didn't have my phone with me, so I crawled to the road where I tried to flag down a passing car for help. After what seemed like an eternity as I was in excruciating pain, a woman finally stopped, just as I was going into shock, and called 911. Had she not seen me and stopped to help, I'd likely be dead. As it turned out, I had two shattered ankles and a fractured leg. I left home for a brief walk, and didn't return home for over a month. My ankles had to be totally reconstructed, I was in rehab for almost four weeks, and in a wheelchair for months afterwards. I lost income, had to stop working on my MBA, had to give up my beloved dog because I can't walk her anymore, and lost the better part of a year of my life. To this day it's a rare day that I don't experience pain, and I've been diagnosed with deep depression and PTSD. Despite the fact that I disagree with the doctrines of the Church of Christ, in an attempt to follow the biblical admonition of 1 Cor. 6:1, I tried to settle the matter directly with the church. I called and spoke to someone named Karen, requesting that I be put in contact with the church's insurance company. She gave me a name, but called back shortly afterwards to tell me she had given me the wrong information, and assured me that someone would be in touch with me. So, I waited...and waited...and waited...but no one called. After several weeks I sent a certified letter to the church, explaining exactly what had happened, describing my injuries in detail, and requesting that they call their insurance company. Imagine my surprise when the letter was returned to me - the "fine Christians" at East Ridge Church of Christ refused to sign for it! I had no choice but to go the world's route, so I started to call law firms in Chattanooga. I told my story to an intake clerk at each one, and incredibly, each and every one called back to say they couldn't help me, although none would give me a reason. In a world where people sue because their twelve inch sandwich is only eleven inches and win, I couldn't understand why, but continued to call one law firm after another, always with the same result. An acquaintance of mine told me about a lawyer who had helped him and with whom he was very pleased, so I called and asked to speak with him. Probably because it was a referral I got directly through to the lawyer, who eagerly listened to the details of my story. I could hear the excitement in his voice, and could imagine dollar signs in his eyes, until he asked me the name of the church. I told him...and was met with a few seconds of silence. Finally he said in a shocked voice, "Oh, we can't sue THAT church! The JUDGE is a member there!" I see. So, having a judge (and I've since learned, several lawyers) on the membership roster precludes a "church" from doing the right thing? I'd often heard about "The Good Ol' Boys' Network and thought it was a myth, but apparently it's alive and well in Chattanooga! Meanwhile, I have bill collectors calling me at all hours: bills from rehab, from the surgeon, from the anesthesiologist, from the physical therapists, from the home health nurses, from the ambulance companies, from the mental health worker who tried to help with my PTSD and depression. My house has sustained damaged from the wheelchair, and I can't afford to have it repaired. The credit rating I worked so hard on to get to a very good level is now in the toilet - not only do I have to pay higher rates on things like insurance, but I can't refinance my home and if I have an emergency and need credit, well...I'm screwed. Whereas I used to be able to work part-time to supplement my Social Security, I no longer can, because I can't stand or walk for any length of time. Church of Christ teaches that "You can't go to heaven if you don't live a good Christian life." Well, I have a message for the leadership and at least some members of the East Ridge Church of Christ - you not only aren't going to make it, as your own (false) gospel condemns you, but you're going to bust hell wide open when you get there! (I expect that "THE" Judge will be particularly harsh with you, as you deserve!) Oh yes, I did say I'd tell you what happened to the priest and the Levite: They're alive and well at the East Ridge Church of Christ.
