It's a huge department store in the city center of Zurich with floors of everything from fashion to food. I only visited the food department which is located on the lower level so I can only describe my experience there. There are rows of foods from around the world and a large section of wines from around the world. They also have a decent Swiss wine section. The cheese humidor here is worth just popping into. It had the most amazing variety of cheeses from around the world. The fresh produce is also of the highest quality. There are a handful of restaurants in here serving cuisines from different parts of the world. We visited one called Nippon Sushi and the chef there made us an Omakase menu comprised of the chefs selection of sushi on the day. It was amazingly good and super fresh. You can lock me up in this place and throw the key away :-) an exquisite place to visit, browse and have a meal :-)

I'm glad I found a Groupon for a fantastic meal for two. Afterward, I went across to Mövenpick to sample a variety of red wines before picking out a lovely bottle from Chile. It's self-service, so you can pour yourself whatever you want to taste from all the bottles on display. At the register, I suddenly remembered that I had some UBS Keyclub points to redeem, so I was able to knock off CHF 20 from the purchase price. Awesome. Then I went upstairs to the always busy m.a.c. cosmetics counter, but a sales associate was quick to help me with my purchase, and then I was merrily on my way. Always an awesome experience at this upscale department store, but be prepared to shell out some big bucks.

Recently, I brought in two watches to ZZ for a bit of 'TLC'. One is a 30 year old 'Goofy' a la…read moreWalt Disney watch where the arms and numbers are set so that time runs backwards. The other is a 14 kt., antique Hamilton from the 40s, and a family heirloom. The first step, I was told by the friendly woman behind the counter, would be the price quote for work potentially rendered. The watches were to be inspected, and then a price quote would be given. Based on that, I would then decide if I wanted work to commence. So far, so good. The watches were dropped off at the shop at the beginning of the week. It's now Thursday, and I just received word via email that one of the watches has already BEEN REPAIRED and was ready for pick-up. When I rang to say that I thought I was to first receive a price quote (and to make sure that the repairs to the Hamilton hadn't been started) the ZZ dude was pretty matter-of-fact, and just said something like 'well, it was just a glass replacement.' All I can say is thank Jeebus that it wasn't the Hamilton that they'd set their tools upon as that repair what have FOR SURE cost a pretty penny. Again, the 'Goofy' watch simply needed a replacement glass as the old one was cracked from being dropped. Of course, 'simply', when it comes to the price of things in CH quickly becomes 'costly', so I'm a bit anxious to find out what I owe them. Flash forward to Friday: I've just retrieved both of the watches from ZZ. The 'Goofy' watch glass replacement cost 67 CHF. This was more than I expected to pay, and, had they actually quoted me the price first as agreed, I could have then shopped around some, or, at the very least, thought about it for a spell before taking the plunge. I can, however, honestly say that the work was well executed and may the new glass stay crack-free for many years to come! The antique Hamilton watch quote came via email last night and was in the neighborhood of 744 CHF. The hubs didn't want to spend that much on the watch, so I picked it up still sans second hand and took it home.

Big Pilot crowns are notoriously fragile, and this one had already been fixed under warranty just five months earlier. The Zurich boutique initially handled it professionally. The representative confirmed it was under warranty and expressed sympathy for the repeated issue. But weeks later, I received a condescending letter rejecting my claim, implying user fault, and charging me 250 CHF. The tone was dismissive and the reasoning absurd, considering how rarely I wear the piece -- barely a handful of times. It's galling. I've owned five Big Pilots, purchased years ago in Los Angeles for my team after selling a company. I even mentioned this, along with my broader collection, at the boutique -- yet somehow, that didn't warrant even basic respect or trust. I was wearing a new Day‑Date in rose gold at the time, if credibility were in question. For a brand under the Richemont umbrella -- whose watch divisions are already sliding 15% in revenue -- this kind of service is tone‑deaf and shortsighted. Charging loyal customers a token few hundred francs while disregarding warranty terms and their own representative's assurance is shameful. There are far better luxury houses that still value their clients. IWC Zurich? A complete failure -- poor communication, poor judgment, poor service. Avoid.
