My…read morewife was overcome with emotion upon seeing the "Walk of Faith" limited edition print that was displayed. We left after touring the gallery with the owner, Esther. She is extremely knowledgeable about Thomas Kinkade art and shared a lot of personal information about him that came from her, and her husband's, personal relationship with the artist prior to his death. We could not get that picture out of our minds. So, after much discussion, we went back and purchased the 24" x 36" print with the frame. The print is still there as we elected to wait until an artist "textured", or highlighted it to look more like an original painting. Normally a $300 fee is charged for that, but Esther informed us that they had an artist coming in November who would do it free, with us in attendance, so we elected to wait until then to pick up our print. Esther was very helpful and is a very charming lady, who gave us hugs when we finally left. I would highly recommend this gallery to anyone, whether they are fans of Thomas Kinkade or have never heard of him. They have some of the most beautiful artwork you can imagine.

Unlike other things of dubious distinction, his work is not an acquired taste - you either love it or don't, and I don't. I find it too reminiscent of the paint-by-number kits popular during my childhood to warrant much admiration. In deference to those whose home decor includes multiple samples of his output, I'll award this three stars as an ideal place for you to indulge your questionable taste.

I first came across some stunning mirrors with floral pieces cut from plates and teacups in the Network Gallery in San Luis Obispo years ago. When I learned they were done by Fred and Donnell Pasion, a local married couple, I was eager to find them and take a workshop. I found both artists to be unpretentious, friendly, kind, and work together well as a team. They are master artisans in the skills of mosaic design gracious, supportive, and generous with their time, energy, expertise, knowledge and supplies. In the workshop I took I made a Lazy Susan table piece. My sister and cousin made birdbaths. There are several choices to pick from such as garden stepping-stones, heart shaped mirrors, etc. It was a two-day course and just plain fun. I paid about $150, which might seem high for a Lazy Susan, but I learned so much about the mosaic materials and techniques I could do my own projects if I was so inclined. However, it's a lot more fun making creations with a group of others in their cool location. Their cottage home, gardens and barn were full of whimsy and creative inspiration. Even the crack in the cement of their driveway is the home of a colorful serpent of mosaic and mirror bits! They have done projects large and small. Some include the massive fireplace at Cambria's Camp Ocean Pines, hospital benches, private home gardens with sweeping walls and benches of mosaic sunflowers, birds, fish and such. Fred has made totem pole styled pieces of old vintage lamps and his metal trashcan fish are very cool. You just have to see what they do to understand it and appreciate the time and effort they put forth. Have a look at their website to see more art and find out about their workshops. Or if you would like to have them create custom pieces for your home inside or outside, they have loads of awesome ideas and plenty of experience. One of these days I'd love to get my own mirror by Passiflora Mosaics like the one I first laid eyes on years ago. http://www.passifloramosaics.com/

Framed - And We Liked It…read more.. When my wife and I moved from San Jose to Nipomo in April of 2018, we brought lots of pictures from our old home. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), the new place had more windows and fewer places to hang pictures so quite a few missed the cut and stood in a corner of our garage. During the past 3 years, some got banged around and their glass became cracked. After deciding what to save, we decided to visit Starving Artists Picture Framing because of the great reviews on Yelp. We were not disappointed. A nice woman greeted us (probably Beverly...according to most reviewers), examined each of the 4 pieces and asked some appropriate questions. After settling on what needed to be done - new glass for each and framing for one - she gave us an estimate of $400 with the work to be completed in 2 weeks. That total was about half the cost given to us by Michael's in Santa Maria shortly before the start of the coronavirus pandemic. So, based on the estimate, time required and friendliness of this woman, we went ahead. Everything was ready as promised and looked as good as new. The previous reviews were right. A couple of things to note. The shop itself, at the corner of Grand and Halcyon in Arroyo Grande, has a small showroom in the front and workspace in the back. From the choices of art displayed on the walls, the owner (Beverly?) has a quirky sense of humor. And, since it's right along a busy part of Grand Avenue, the best place to park is around the side in a small lot. We'll certainly return to this shop if other picture framing needs arise.

Good quality work, reasonably priced, and the owner has good framing suggestions. What more do you…read morewant from a frame store?

The grounds are amazing and the best part was seeing a ton of peacocks roaming around. Unfortunately, on my visit none of them were fanning their feathers. Hopefully next time! They also have an Air BnB on site that you can stay at. It looked really nice! There's plenty of seating in the courtyard area and you're allowed to bring your own food. We just came for a flight tasting, which is only $20 here. The nice part about the flight is that you also have the option to try ciders. They give you casino like chips here to use for each tasting. Great way to keep track! The reason for the three star rating is the lack of customer service. When I go to a winery, I expect the person pouring the wine to explain each one that I'm tasting. There was no explanation at all. Maybe I should of asked, but it was odd for a winery not to do that. The gentleman that poured didn't look too happy to be there either. I cringed each time I had to walk up to get my next pour. He barely said two words to me and I just got the feeling he was mad or upset about something. I wish I would have gotten his name! The girl that helped in the beginning was kind, but she also never explained each pour. Just a weird interaction overall. Would I return here? Yes! I loved the grounds and the peacocks. The wine was decent and I would like to try the ciders next time, but I'll probably go inside the store where they were also pouring wines. Hopefully they know what they're doing! Overall, a great spot to check out and next time I will make it a point to ask for a description of each pour even though I shouldn't have to.
