The Heroin situation was ongoing and disturbing at all hours for a few months! Yet they did not notice?? Once informed, they did not care. Seriously? People come and go here with children! When I called them twice to alert them and discuss solutions, there was no offer of help, they wanted to wash their hands of it--they were rude and hung up. Shameful! One day recently, when officers were outside arresting druggies and trying to take care of the issue, the folks at Mama's Hip would not cooperate or even open the door to talk to the police outside when I asked for help. Needles and drugs were stashed in their bushes. Can you not show the police? Really?? Luckily, we were able to get rid of the drug element finally... but it seems that these folks want all the benefits of my trendy, artsy Highlands neighborhood without any of the responsibility. Drugs are an ugly part of our society, but if you ignore it and refuse any positive action and let others take it on as you just stand by--then, you are a part of the problem. Especially at your place of business-- that focuses on babies!?! This is wrong on so many levels. Truly. I would never take children here based on this interaction and observation. I cannot say how the services are.

I was actually able to take a free tour here and learn about This place while on a parent Led 8th grade class graduation celebration for my oldest daughters class. Part of the celebration was to take a limo ride over to the NoCo area to take photos and selfies with the awesome public art scene. While walking around a worker From maker 13 stopped us and asked us if we wanted to come in and take a tour on This surprisingly chilly late April evening. The kids and parents all obliged and we really enjoyed the tour. The kids were very attentive and asked a lot of good questions about the program and got to witness some local artist perform their work and craft. The studio is basically a rent an office place for artists ranging from designers, computer techs, wood workers and other skills im not familiar with. They do offer summer program and things for youth to come in and work and have a space as well. While on the tour they did have some sodas and snacks for sell which all the hungry teenagers obliged in as well. Overall a very cool and unexpected trip and tour on the kids memorable and fun graduation day. I know for a fact that this tour was a highlight and memory for a lot of the parents and kids. So very cool of them to share their space and knowledge with all of us.

Ace's Place is a business that should be avoided if at all possible. In their contract, they told…read moreme that they charge a fee if you cancel within 24 hours of a visit. My ex husband cancelled 3 times in two months which was more than half of his visits at a point in time - one of them was cancelled just a few hours in advance. Aside from them never charging him, they happily relayed the message to me that he wouldn't be coming to see our son on those days. In November, I informed the owner that we would need to reschedule a December appointment - a full month before the visit. First, she didn't read my text for 2 weeks, when she did, she informed me that I would need to go through my attorney first (and incur legal fees for communicating with my attorney) in order to ask my ex if he would permit my son to attend the other obligation that he had on that day. Everyone including my ex and both attorneys puzzled over why the owner of Ace's Place was making me jump through hoops that she had not made him jump through. Then, she tried to charge me for rescheduling the appointment despite 30 days notice and despite never charging my ex for the 3 hour notice cancellation. It would be bad enough if that were all but during the initial consultation, I informed the owner that during our divorce, it came out that my ex had been previously fired from teaching for having sex with an 11 year old child and that there had been an issue with my ex taking pictures of our son to put up on websites. She promised that they wouldn't allow pictures to be taken by my ex for the safety of our child which was what the previous supervised visitation place in another city had adopted as a policy in our case as well. And... you guessed it - they've been letting my ex take pictures of our son. Also, she told me that the visits would not be at a time when other children were there because of my ex's history of abuse toward children. Rarely do I go to drop off or pick my son up and not see other children in there. If you're currently doing visits with your kids there, I encourage you to ask the owner about why you weren't informed about your children being there at the same time as a pedophile. Finally, she insisted that they don't allow visiting parents to coach or lie to children but my husband - who wears wigs and dresses to visits has been coaching our son to call him "Mimi" suddenly. Our son came home from a visit reciting the words "Mimi is so beautiful, just look at her dress" which is incredibly out of character for our toddler son and unlike his usual way of speaking - almost as though my ex spent the whole 2 hour visit reciting the words with him. This place is truly terrible and if you're looking for somewhere that will provide a safe service for your children, look elsewhere! Our case may deal with pedophilia but I realize that there are many bad ones out there and I sincerely hope that this business gets it together before they are the cause of someone's child being seriously hurt or worse. If you're reading this review, I can only hope that it doesn't end up being your child.

As I was trying to leave, another staff member stopped me and insisted I wasn't allowed to take her--even after I calmly explained multiple times that her own teacher told me to. She kept talking over me and refused to listen until I finally asked her to go confirm with my daughter's teacher. I completely understand the importance of protecting the children and not letting them leave with just anyone. I also understand that kids aren't supposed to leave during a performance. That's fine, and I respect that. But I had direct permission from my child's teacher due to a medical situation, and there is absolutely no excuse for what happened next. While the first staff member went to talk to Natalie, I was speaking with another teacher calmly explaining what happened. The original woman came back in, overheard me telling the truth, and started screaming loudly and aggressively at me after hearing me say to the other teacher that she had talked to me about leaving. She stormed off after yelling at me, not even giving me a chance to respond or explain anything. I have NEVER been spoken to like she spoke to me. I shouldn't even say "spoken," she SCREAMED at me. I asked multiple staff members for her name afterward but no one would tell me. They clearly knew she was out of line and tried to cover for her. Another staff member even told me I should be more concerned about rushing my daughter to the hospital than "getting justice," which was incredibly judgmental and tone-deaf. My child had a fever and I was taking her home. It was a Sunday. No doctor was open. And since when is it okay to take up room at an emergency room because your kid has a low-grade fever? There are actual emergencies that are more serious than a kid feeling a little cruddy. People are not supposed to take up time at an emergency room unless it is an actual emergency. The reality is this: it's not my fault they don't have better emergency protocols or clear communication among staff. I was following instructions, and instead I was treated like a problem and verbally attacked. That woman should not be working around children if she can't control her temper, and the rest of the staff shouldn't be enabling it by protecting her identity. This was supposed to be a special day for my daughter, and instead it ended in complete stress and disrespect. We will not be returning, and I strongly urge other parents to consider how this studio really operates behind the scenes. To top it all off, I had spent so much time, money, and effort leading up to this moment. I paid $42 for tickets to this recital--not to mention all the money I spent on her classes, shoes, and recital uniform. I drove her to every practice, invested hours of my time, and supported her through it all. Her grandparents even came to see her, only to witness me being disrespected, yelled at, and humiliated in front of staff. That's what we were left with instead of a happy memory. Completely unacceptable.
