Midway through summer I decided to take advantage of the good weather and do some home improvements. Verily, I scheduled the work for the third week in August. And that, right there, was my first mistake! My second was to believe the advice from a 'paint specialist' at B & Q when he said, "of course, oil based paints don't smell half as bad as they used to". (Yeah right!) Since these two seminal misapprehensions I have made a plethora of others, and now have a bedroom that is nowhere near completion, where moths are stuck wing-side down to my beautiful new fitted shelves, and the stench of the paint hangs in the air like Agent Orange after a particularly bad bout of bombardment... I have not slept in there for over a week! The torrential rain has prevented me from airing the place on the grounds that every time I open the windows a wall of water descends through them, drenching everything!
I have to conclude that DIY is possibly not a hobby that has legs where I am concerned!
In my quest to find the perfect shade of cream, I have visited a string of paint shops, and called in on Choice Décor a couple of weeks ago. I was amazed by the range of products that the owner had managed to cram into this rather small shop, especially when compared to the scale of the big DIY chains, and was equally stunned by the fact that Choice Décor could beat them on price on a lot of things as well. Result!
I always expect to pay a little extra at independents, and offset the premium safe in the knowledge that I will receive the soundest advice from the experts. But Choice Décor not only provide the best advice, they also deliver on price! I'm going back next week to buy seven and a half litres of Dulux Vinyl Matt paint for £12.99!!! read more
