SHIT SHAT Diner - I visited this restaurant last week with friends, and there were 8 of us in the party. The waiter took all our orders without writing anything down - I got the chicken gyro. Food comes quickly and I am served a lamb Gyro. I didn't order this and I do not eat lamb, so I pointed this out to the waiter and politely asked if I could receive the chicken because that's what I ordered. The waiter proceeds to tell me that I ordered lamb. I did not, and it was weird for him to tell me that as if it was some objective fact. Anyway, I told him I ordered the chicken and he said that he would need to bring the manager. Weird again, because how could something so minor require the manager? The manager comes over and asks what the issue is. I fill him in, and he proceeds to tell me that I ordered lamb so that is why I received lamb. ????? I did not order lamb, I ordered chicken. Nothing wrong with standing up for your employee, I get that, but how is there no regard whatsoever for my take on the issue? No consideration that your employee messed up? Especially since he wrote none of our 8 orders down, most of which had modifications. That's a recipe for a mistake. Instead of admitting that they made a mistake and served me the wrong dish, they're now gaslighting me. These people warped reality and gaslit me into thinking I'd ordered lamb - how sick. The gaslighting from the manager was so intense that I was actually convinced for a moment that I ordered the lamb. I did not, and multiple people in my party of 8 chimed in to confirm that I ordered chicken so there was no denying it. The manager's attitude was dismissive, rude, and not even the least bit accommodating. These people could not care less about their customers. Manager then said that if I want the chicken gyro, it will take 25+ minutes to make. And, since I ordered the lamb (reminder: I did not and there were multiple witnesses), I will need to pay for both gyro sandwiches. I and everyone at the table was too stunned to speak, so the manager just walks away saying nothing further. How disgusting. The waiter comes back to the table and removes the lamb gyro without saying a word. About 5 minutes later, he comes back with a chicken gyro. It's clear that they just removed the lamb from the pita and shoved unseasoned chicken in there, because the arrangement of salad and french fries was exactly the same as how I received it. The food isn't even good - I honestly wouldn't even serve it to a raccoon. Bad service and the food absolutely sucks - pick a struggle because it shouldn't be both! My friend ordered a chicken caesar wrap and was brought the wrong wrap, exactly like I was (the waiter didn't write down his order either so a mistake was inevitable). When it came time to pay the bill, I was only charged for the chicken gyro. So what was all of that for? Why was the manager lecturing me about 25+ minutes for chicken and charging me for the lamb gyro? Was this some sick intimidation tactic? Humiliation ritual? The customer service at this restaurant is appalling and the staff is wildly disrespectful even if the mistake is their own fault. They also tried to charge my friend for the wrap he didn't order. The one they mistakenly brought him! Based on other negative reviews throughout the years, the vile management at this restaurant is a recurring issue and for that reason, I absolutely would not recommend eating here. I would steer clear of both locations, West Orange and Hackensack, just to be safe. If you want to press your luck here, I'd recommend placing your order while on video, so you can play it back for the manager when he inevitably begins the gaslighting. I went with my friend for her birthday on a Monday night. We were able to be seated right away. The staff was friendly and served us quickly. I got the chit chat omelet without mushrooms and my friend got a Belgium waffle. The omelet was so big and cooked perfectly and was full of flavor. The waffle was fluffy but crispy. For dessert we got a brownie sundae. It was huge with two different ice cream flavors and whipped cream. It was decadent. They brought it over to the table and they all sang. It was so fun. Holy moly i am stuffed (like my french toast). The cranberry and brie stuffed french toast that came with brunch was absolutely amazing. There was nutella on top which was so good with the brie, cranberry, and french toast wow it was amazing. There was no need for me to use my syrup so guess who has syrup at home now. It also came with eggs and the works (so sausage, pork roll, and bacon). We had calamari as the appetizer, definitely suggest getting an appetizer because food takes a bit of time. I went to this diner in West Orange NJ and wanted to try their Breakfast. They have unusual egg combinations. I tried the scrambled egg with mushrooms, bacon, blue cheese crumble with hasbrowns. The service was great, the waiters checked on us at least every 30-45 minutes (refilling water and bringing condiments as needed). They were also accommodating to our request to bring our certain items before others (we had a newborn and had to take turns eating while one person held her). I'd seen other Yelp friends reviews of this place and couldn't wait to go there with my wife. What was once the Eagle Rock Diner has been transformed into a place right out of Alice In Wonderland. From the statues outside, to the beautiful interior decor, this place was amazing! Throw a view of the Manhattan skyline in, and it's a must stop kind of place. I haven't even mentioned the food yet. All the uniqueness wouldn't mean much if the food wasn't good, but it definitely was! We stopped in on an overcast Saturday afternoon and were able to order off the brunch menu. The parking lot is jam-packed but once you find a spot, you get inside and there's no wait. Somehow they knew it'd have this kind of demand. Any given corner inside doesn't feel too big, but the rooms just go and go. So I like the atmosphere. Service: Took a little bit to get the waiter over, but I think we were fine from there. Nothing outstanding but all solid. My (younger) cousin got her graduation celebratory cake, and it seemed relatively normal, unlike some diners that really bring it with their dessert. First of all, I have never seen a diner have a 45-minute wait on a Thursday night, but due to the glowing reviews I had heard about this place, my friend and I stuck it out. This place is a scene from Alice in Wonderland. It's bright, colorful, and just an interesting place to grab a bite. The food is tasty. I had the French Onion Soup and I enjoyed it. The meatloaf was good, as well as the roast beef, and I had the Caprese sandwich. I think they need to do more with it. Instead of using chicken breast tenders, they should have a nice solid breast that goes across the sandwich, and not just parts of the sandwich. Also, the chicken was a little dry.
