This place still amazes! Don't miss it when heading to the Sky Islands. Outstanding! I've been a regular here since the Museum opened. The selection keeps getting better and better! Be sure to check out the outdoor exhibits. Two big thumbs up!

Fantastic museum with a bit of everything for the nature lover out there! If you're into Herpetology this is a must stop even, if it's a bit out of the way for you. Check out their native plant/animal garden after opening on an over cast day for some cool up close animal encounters.

The gentleman up front was very nice as was the woman in the shop. We snagged the last copy -- which was also signed! - then proceeded to pick up some souvenirs. They have a really nice selection of local books, art, crystals, and items like miners tags. I got a really cute little tree made of copper wire and green stones, and a mixed silver and copper ring. Recommend stopping by even if you don't have time for the museum. Its a nice little shop and as a Smithsonian affiliate, there's no tax!

Honestly, this was the best mine tour we've done in Arizona. You check in about 30 minutes before the tour. There's a little shop to browse, a spot to sit, and a short movie in the back that gives you a great background on the mine and how copper is made. The tour itself is about an hour, all underground. You ride in on a little train that you sit on kind of like a bike, and the temperature stays a cool mid-60s the whole time. They give you a hard hat, light, safety vest, and even a number tag - just like real miners use - so they know nobody gets left behind. Along the way, the train stops a few times so you can get off, check out artifacts, and walk into different areas while Steve tells more stories. When you come back up to the surface, have your sunglasses ready - the sunlight feels unbelievably bright after being underground. It was the highlight of our full day in Bisbee and something you do NOT want to miss.

They were closed for the day but the gentleman at the visitor center said they are very accommodating with tours and that I should call them . Not wanting to bother people after hours, I made plans to spend the night and go first thing in the morning when they opened. I think it's important to mention all that because even after opening hours, I still ended up having to call. The gentleman that arrived and gave our tour was named Hunter and he explained it IS always best to call because they are flexible regarding hours and tours. Hunter was amazing. He was so knowledgeable about every single vehicle and he was super friendly and nice . He had in-depth history and experience with all of the cars and his stories made the entire experience just kind of come to life. He spent over 90 minutes showing me around and as much as I loved the building and art cars, he is what really made the experience five stars. I thought this would be a fun and interesting experience, but I just didn't expect how much love, creativity, and genuine Joy is behind this passion project. Art Car World is a collection of fully transformed vehicles that have been turned into rolling pieces of art. They are interesting, detailed expressions of creativity that take a huge amount of time and imagination. Every car has a story. I liked the "Monster" truck and the stained glass VW Bug, but the Brass Van was my personal favorite. It was a piece you could look at for hours and never get bored, continuously noticing new details and interesting things. Hunter had a personal connection with the gentleman who created that piece and was able to tell story after story and answer all my questions. It was a very enjoyable way to spend my afternoon. This definitely doesn't feel like a typical museum. It feels alive and full of creativity and I left feeling inspired. I made a donation and even bought myself a t-shirt because this really feels like something worth supporting. I have also already made plans to go to the Art Car Festival in Seattle later this year, at Hunter's suggestion. If you're anywhere near Douglas, this is absolutely worth your time. It's a work in progress and super weird in the best way. It's one of those experiences that remind you how fun creativity can be when people are allowed to run wild and you can really feel the love and community here. Make the call and don't miss this one!

Costs: Free Museum Type: Historical Custom House Seaman Field's old home is believed to be this small New Mexico town of Deming's inital customs house. This is speculated to be the original custom house for Deming or the entire Luna County because Mr. Seamen Field set up his home/ranch back in 1848. Mr. Field was also the first bonded customs agent under President G. Cleveland, Deming's first mayor and judge. More info about Mr Field, this abode and related can be found at the Luna County (Columbus) Historical Society (Museum) in Columbus, New Mexico about an hour south of Deming near the Original Mexico border. The home has been refurbished inside and out to resemble the late 1800 and early 1900s rather than it's pure original. The home is in well shape throughout the years and looks nothing like the original abode since we don't know what it really looked like yet still a gem to snoop around the past, learn and be amazed how the people back thing survived. Deming is a small town with limitations. Notable attractions in Deming are the Mimbres Museum across the street, the small Veterans park/memorial across the street and the Luna County Courthouse which is over 100 years old with a cool park to rest up. About one hour north of Deming are: City of Rocks, and Fort Cummings Historical Site and town of Hatch. A further drive is Silver City which has its own set of touristy stuff. About one hour south of Deming are: The mexican border, Luna County Historical Society and the Pancho Villa State Park. About one east is Las Cruces, NM and there is nothing west until you hit Benson, Arizona. Travel safely www.cleeshyun.com @cigarcpa @cleeshyun
