I originally wanted sweet & sour chicken but they don't seem to have that as a lunch special. I asked if the order came with hot & sour soup and the guy mentioned you only receive it if you dine it. I've been eating here for the past 8 years, and I'm saddened to say that this would probably be my last time dining here. Food: I don't know if they changed chef, but the food were way better back in the day. The salt and pepper spareribs were really bland, and the fried rice was more greasy then usual. Speaking of which, when I asked the waitress if they could add more MSG onto the salt and pepper spareribs, the waitress told me that they don't add MSG onto their food. To my surprise, it wasn't because they consider MSG unhealthy. Her reason being is that MSG is expensive, and that they couldn't get their hands on any more MSG. To top it off, she commented that all of the MSG are now in the ocean. I raised my eyebrow to a new height this evening. Service: The waiter was attentive, but the female waitress left a bad taste in my mouth. Not only was my aforementioned request not fulfilled, but there was also a forced gratuity of 15% for a party of 3 people. I've never seen this type of absurdity before, but every store has its own policy, I guess. I feel that tips should be granted to services that we deemed worthy. We gave the waitress $60 in cash since the bill came out to $58.35. Once we paid the bill, we didn't see any of the change being returned to us. Do we really need to ask for our change back? It can get busy at night as crowds of families come rushing in, hungry, hoping to be seated in this little restaurant. Seating is limited so be prepared to wait when business is poppin. The restaurant's usually empty during the day. I've seen this restaurant go from really bad service, customers complaining and servers getting frustrated to seeing a new staff who checks up time to time, offering refills and actually giving decent service. They used to serve free milk-tea back in the day, but they stopped doing that. The Chinese food here is good, it's cheap. Sometimes the tastes differ depending on which cook is working. However, the reason why I'm only giving 3 stars is because of the long wait times.There was only 1 server running the entire restaurant. While the restaurant was only half full, it took him 5 minutes to seat us. After looking at the menu it took 20 minutes to get the attention of the server to take our order. After placing our order, it took another 15 minutes for our food to come out. A total of 40 minutes waiting for food from the time we walked in. The server and cooks started to have a verbal argument in the kitchen that could be heard from the dining area. Also, this restaurant only accepts cash for transactions. This is a typical Chinese restaurant except that they stay open real late. In the suburbs, it is difficult to find a late-night place so I was glad that I found this place. We were out late and we were hungry so we decided to try this place. I have to say that when you're hungry, everything taste good. We ordered some basic salt and pepper pork chops. They were freshly fried so they smelled pretty amazing. They sprinkled some peppers on top but they were not spicy at all. I think the peppers were more like garnish than seasoning. :) We also ordered some spicy beef dish. Now that's spicy but just right. The fried tofu was interesting but helped to balance out the spiciness in the beef. You just have to be careful and not accidentally eat the dried peppers. Those ARE spicy. My favorite orders are peking style spare ribs, string beans, snow peas, and walnut shrimp. I highly recommend to order the peking style spare ribs.
