Ordered takeout and had a bad experience overall. First off, they don't provide rice anymore compared to before and the person taking the order did not inform us at all or ask if we needed any rice. Furthermore, when we went to pick up our order, it took over ten minutes even though the food was already ready, just a bad experience with their customer service. Lastly, some of the food just tasted really bad compared to before and had some parts of it undercooked such as the mushrooms. Really would not recommend this restaurant in its current state. We ordered take out from China King so I cannot speak about the atmosphere of the restaurant and the service of the staff there. The lady that took our order spoke good enough English and mostly got our order correct. They mixed up the chicken with beef on one of the entrees but that did not matter too much for us. The delivery was quick! She told us it would take 45 minutes but the delivery person arrived in less than 30. We also lived in a weirdly arranged apartment complex and he was able to find out apartment without assistance. The food was pretty standard Chinese, not too Americanized but still plenty flavorful and greasy. I wouldn't say that this is the best Chinese you can get by any means but for the price and location, it is pretty good. I definitely would recommend this if you are in Goleta and IV, there aren't too many better places in the area. read more

Honestly, trash. My family and I was going back home to the Bay Area from LA and this was just a stop where there were no other food places open. I know what good authentic Chinese food tastes like and this was NOT it. The food was bland and overly priced. I could've got a large plate of rice with my dish for $12 and a place back home, but at this place I have to order a dish for $13 and extra rice on the side (hopefully that makes sense). The service here was trash too. It took long to take my order and there's barely people in the restaurant. They had to move me to a different table since a party was coming in and the lady forgot. My food took forever to come out AND it was cold. And with these types of places, you can't complain either or they will spit in your food. Yeah it's thanksgiving or whatever, but if you can't handle serving multiple people INSTEAD OF GIVING THE EXCUSE OF BEING BUSY, then I wouldn't work on a holiday tbh. Bad experience overall. They deliver to your doorstep. Inside the restaurant is very clean. I really really really love the mongolian lamb! MAYBE I'm biased towards the dish bc my mom and I love mongolian lamb anywhere.. but its sooo goood hereeee the lamb is like so tender and big pieces too not just lil scraps. China King helped me learn that the English name for the dish is Mongolian Lamb. I thought that it would be called green onion lamb cuz thats what I call it in chinese.. but I guess that doesn't sound as appetizing or official as Mongolian Lamb kek. The honey walnut shrimp is really good too. The chow fun is good too LOL if ur not into dishes that u need to eat with rice. The people who work here are super nice! :) They serve alcohol if ur looking to get turnt jk but if u bougie then ya there u go. We weren't sure where to go for dinner but had heard some good rumors about China King and decided to give it a try. We got there and they had amazing service. The waiters were friendly and the five plates we ordered were DELICIOUS. Best Chinese food I've had in a long time. The sweet and sour shrimp was amazing. I could eat it all day. All the other dishes ordered were just as amazing. My sister dropped her dirty, sticky chopsticks at some point and our waiter was so nice about it. We've been here twice since they opened about two months ago. Overall, the place is okay! We've tried a number of items (potstickers, walnut shrimp, chow mein, fried rice, mooshu, and a few other dishes). Nothing stands out as amazing or particularly memorable. But the staff seemed to be still learning the menu - both times we were there we asked the staff about some of the menu items and they didn't seem to know what they were! China King was created by the owner of a local-favorite spot, Mandarin Palace. This is my go-to Chinese spot, but the experience can be hit or miss. Yesterday, I went back to China King after a break of about 3 months due to a really bad experience - busy lunch hour with bad service and food that was just "okay." Yesterday, however, was better in both respects. My brother and I ordered the hot and sour soup (delicious), the Szechuan fish fillet (delicious), the China clay pot chicken (very fatty; all chicken thighs), and the honey walnut shrimp (great, but arrived twenty minutes after everything else when we were pretty much full). Our server was great, but the super late shrimp was a bummer - it was so late in the meal that I assumed they'd forgotten/would have preferred to cancel the meal. Overall, though, this is pretty classic Chinese/American food, but if your palate is a little more adventurous, drive five minutes to Lucky Dragon for a uniquely delicious experience. read more

Out of towners staying in Goleta on New Years Eve and needed dinner delivered at our hotel. I had excellent customer service from the gentleman who took my order. Food was delivered promptly - within 35-40 minutes. Food was hot, fresh and delicious. The steamed dumplings were excellent. I have ordered this before and I enjoyed it, however this time it was completely different. I spoke with the manager over the phone and she refused to accommodate to anything that I asked for. I simply asked her to refund the Kung Pao Chicken and she refused to listen. After arguing with her on the phone for a while, she asked me to drive over and bring the chicken. I told her I did not have a vehicle and that I would have to take an Uber in order to bring the chicken back, and nothing seemed to phase her.
